Hello all, a question for those that own any of LG Oled TV.
So I have had my LG C1 65inch since May 2022 when I moved out of my parents.
The TV has been rock solid in the near 2 years of ownership up until recently where it has started developing odd behaviour.
The TV is out of LG warranty but I've already sent a repair request enquiry on one of the behavuour but I thought I'll ask here if you have experienced this.

The first odd behaviour is whenever the TV asks to perform it's 5 minutes pixel clean, I have always allowed it in the 2 years, but recently it has been cropping up constantly and the only way I managed to make it stop for long duration is by performing a 1 hour pixel cleaning process.

The second odd behaviour is that again, in my 2 years of ownership and to save "electricity", I have always turned the TV off from the wall socket when it's not in use. So the procedure is standby mode -> flip the power switch off from wall socket.
The TV is plugged directly to the wall so there shouldn't be any power issue.
Anyway after nearly 2 years, the tv seem to start taking longer to power on after turning it on from the wall?
Once it on,I can happily put it in standby mode and back on with no issues.

The third odd behaviour is if I put the tv in standby mode with the soundbar still "on", the tv would turn itself back on as it is detecting a signal to the hdmi port(soundbar connected via hdmi using eARC). It has never done it before and it's only started doing it now.

So..for the TPU folks that own LG OLED TV, have you experience any of these odd behaviour?

I would say the the 1 hour pixel cleanse being done every 2 years is probably not enough, I'd say once a year. you say the constant 5 min pixel cleanses went away after the 1 hr clean though, so what's the issue? that sounds normal to me.

the other issues I have no idea about so I tagged two LG OLED tv owners

It's not recommended to unplug the TV since the pixel cleaning is done in the background during the time it's off. Had mine for like 2 years as well and I haven't even seen a notifcation to perform pixel cleaning by myself.
Definitely should wait for the response from the shop/manufacturer.

I have a 48" C1 since August 2021, and if I have anything to say about its boot times getting worse it's due to WebOS updates.

I haven't ever noticed issues with its pixel cleaning procedures, though.

Mine still pixel cleanses for 5 mins, but only on power off. Sorry if I was unclear there.

The 5 minute pixel cleaning would pop up every now and then throughout the 2 years when I turn the TV on and I allow it to perform it, but now it would do it and then continuously say it needs to do another and my only work around was to perform a 1 hour clean.

The TV is remained plugged in, I only flip the socket wall to off when I am not using it.
So you guys are saying I should leave it in standby mode/socket on?

Did you manage to resolve the boot time?
What mine actually does is..if I turn it on from the wall socket, the standby light doesn't even light up until like seconds later and the pressing the power button on the remote does nothing until the standby light flips on.
Before the standby light would turn on almost immediately which allows me to power it on from the remote.

That's what the TV expects, yes. It sometimes uses a small amount of power to do a 5 min maintenance clean when off.

I personally don't trust companies with firmware updates on tv's, I just feel like they might push an update that limits its lifespan or makes it slower on purpose to make you want to upgrade. My plan is to update it to latest firmware once it first arrives, then unplug Ethernet cable and not ever let have access to my wifi. then I will just use a Roku 4k USB stick for my actual movie watching. Roku has a nice layout that I like anyway.

between that and PS5 Pro or future PS6, I will never have to deal with LG ads either, its going to be heaven. I still haven't seen an ad on the internet in over 10 years thanks to adblockers. life is so much better without ads :)

Ironically I have installed the latest update a few months ago.
No idea if that has messed it up or anything, but I did initially turned the auto update off.
The version I have installed currently is 03.40.85.
I'll see if leaving the TV on standby helps while I'm waiting for my enquiry response from LG.

Try a reset for the TV. It's a pain to re-sign in to apps but it may clear out any cache or memory issue.

Probably the best comment here so far. Great idea!

I have a 48-inch C1. It is not recommended to unplug the TV from the socket, as it often realizes auto-maintenance when it's on standby. Mine is behaving without issues after over two years since I bought it.

Pixel refresh is intended to run a cycle on power off after x amount of hours. I'm surprised you weren't aware of this.

I agree with this guy, just leave the switch on the socket to on, its probably doing more maintenance besides just pixel cleanses when its not in use. Sounds like that might fix your issues. Just give it some time.

Well its my first OLED tv, I didn't know there is a different "approach" as I am used to just turning display off as normal when its not in use.

Well i'll be leaving it in standby mode for now and see how it goes.

The 3rd behaviour is still a mystery to me, i've turned off all my other devices from the wall and I have put the TV in standby mode and then it turned itself back on still. I had to unplug the HDMI connectors from the TV and it stayed in standby mode.
I can't remember if there is a option to disable the feature to "auto-turn" TV on when a external device signal is detected "on"

LG OLED owner here and I agree. In all the time I have owned this TV, the pixel cleaning is done in the background. Its never given me a notification either.

Then you should come to South Africa, everyday we have between 2 and 8 hour "load shedding" schedules. So I need to unplug my CX from the wall just incase there is a spike when the power comes back on.

I get the pixel clean message a few times a month. I just hit no and leave it alone.

you never notice it though if you just use it in a normal way. OP problem is that he cut off the electricity so it could never do it in the background... (that's what she said)

As alot of people do, including me. But guess what, not an issue with non-oled tvs.

You would be surprise a lot of people do cut the electricity off from the wall socket, it is a "method" we get told to save on electricity bill.
Even if its a couple pennies per day or even triple digit in a year, every penny counts since the UK is in a funny position with gas/electricity price hike.

Benchmark Scores I pulled a Qiqi~
It's been roughly 6 months I've owned my G3, sure it's a different "weight class" of OLED but it only requested a quick pixel refresh when it reached 500 hours. It's currently at 1080 hours and has not requested another clean since that. However, I must admit I've been using it with the pixel brightness setting at "0" and primarily in SDR (so, as low as it'll go). So cannot say i've been stressing the panel, at least not beyond Genshin Impact's insistence on always displaying the blasted UID in full white at the exact same spot over and over. I just alt tab out every now and then so the pixels in that area display something else for a while, and turn the TV off when I'm not in front of it. Worked so far.

I don't think it amounts to a couple of pennies per month, even with European energy prices being as absurd as they are. The process of rebooting the OS probably consumes more energy than leaving the TV on standby throughout the month.

As alot of people do, including me. But guess what, not an issue with non-oled tvs.
Obviously, but then LCD TV's are, have been and will always be an absolute horror show to look at when they're displaying an image.

I know to most people this statement might sound like total hyperbole but I have them side by side here, my 2022 Samsung The Frame (which isn't even a particularly bad QLED TV) and the LG G3 and the gap in their panels' image quality is simply unreal
