What's your latest tech purchase?

Not really, $27 for 5L of lab grade (99.7% pure). A liter of it costs less than a 0.5L bottle of vodka. Price only skyrocketed during COVID because of supply issues when it was widely used everywhere.
While you make a good point, prices vary depending on region. Here where I'm at, 99% IPA is still on the pricey side of things. EDIT: Heck, 90% is still $2 for a half liter, so yeah, a bit pricey.

I have 55-gal drums of 99% at work, but I can't take them home, or take from them lol.
I just buy 91% in-store, it's not much more than the 70% and I use it as a solvent for more than just PC stuff.

I'm also triggered whenever nail polish remover or acetone get brought up.
Acetone eats certain plastics (quite rapidly), never use it. Just don't.

What are you going to use that for?
Cleaning the 3D Prints at a Resin Printer with non waterwashable Resin.

I buy 10L 99,9% Isopropanl for 55€ incl. delivery.

I like isopopyl for my ultrasonic cleaner as it cavitates much better than water.

Bagged a couple of things today from the idiots in my local second hand shop. first up
one of these for a fiver(£5) said non working, no signal.

Got home plugged into a spare old PC i have and it works, score.
Second is a Nintendo 3DS XL XY blue version, that had a custom firmware on it. Because they stupidly discarded the memory stick that was in it, it upset the custom firmware and it would not boot. Easy fix for me. I paid a risky £50 for it, and CEX pay £116 cash :D. they also go for a pretty good price on Ebay been as its a rarer version.

philips beard trimmer. The old one is 9years old now and it has started pulling on beards instead of cutting them. This one is smoooooth and amazing.
the old (philips corded one) wasnt really good at accuracy. i like trimming my beard to 9mm (winter) or 6mm (summers)

This is for my father but technically I've picked and ordered it for him so I guess it still counts.
Poco M4 Pro 4g 6/128 model, bought in my country from the same etailer where I bought my Realme 8 2+ years ago.

He is upgrading from a 6+ years old Redmi 4A so this was about time and its a significant upgrade
Hes a very casual phone user but his old phone was borderline impossible/annoying to use at this point so I kept bothering him to get something new already.
He gave me a max budget of ~200 $ and no stupidly oversized phones allowed either and it had to have a good battery life. '+at least okay camera, tho he only takes family photos and whatnot'
Ended up picking this cause at least hes somewhat familiar with the user interface + its the same size as my phone and he said thats okay.
Just about managed the budget, it was ~ 184 $.

I've already set it up for the most part, updated itself to Android 13 which is plenty enough for his use case.
No bloat or any weird crap on it, I've only deleted some useless stuff that he will never need.
Also ordered an armor case and tempered glass screen protector for it since his previous phone also had that and it was a must have for him. 'Already applied after taking the photos of the naked phone'

Funny in a way cause I might also upgrade to a Poco phone later this year just something in the higher range.:)

my dad also used to have a Redmi 4A till i upgraded last year  the redmi A series is quite capable phones for their price. and last surprisingly long.

Yeah its actually surprising that it still works considering everything, its just slow by today's standard and even for his use case but the battery and in general the phone is still in an okay condition.
I still have to move all of his old data, etc to the new phone but that I will do later, I've actually got the phone ~1 week ago but he did not want to use it w/o the Armor case/screen protector in case he breaks it. 'that 4A survived a lot since hes not the most careful with his phones + his work is not kind to them'

the ransom of success ... my sister son in law loved his Starfield themed "gaming" rig hehe ...

well now it's for my nephew ... since he's studying informatic at school ... he asked for a build ... which initially started as something for media consumption, VMs and coding ... (dual booting W11/Linux then since they work on both at school)

but the budget envelope is same 800ish chf (910ish if including the monitor)
so i started with another B550M DSH3 32 gb DDR4 some SSD (i will be gifting my Gammix X11 1tb ) and an Enermax Marblebron 750w plus a nice screen

then he Whatsapp me : "hey can you modify the config to be able to run Palworld?" ... oh... i guess he want to play with his brother (and me probably ) then
oh... well the recommended is a RTX 2080, since he will be using Linux some time ... either a ARC 770 or a RX 7600 ... the 7600 is slightly faster and cost less ... well then AMD it is :p

sooooo ...
R7 5700X (well a bit slower than a 5800X but i found one for 97chf ) B550 mobo (model will be depending on stock) , different mATX case (LC-Power 712MB Polynom X probably, or Fractal Design Focus G) Enermax Marblebron 750w 32gb (2x16 so he can easily get to 64gb if needed ) DDR4, Sapphire Pulse RX 7600 8gb, AOC 27B2AM (full HD 4ms 75hz ) i already have put aside the Gammix S11 1tb and an Intenso 1tb 2.5" SSD
will order the major component later this month

the PSU should arrive tomorrow alongside the cooler (do not want AIO  )

the cooler:
1709654508476.png
Endorfy Spartan 5 Max, saw good reviews (like the PSU ) it can handle the 5700X easily

also tomorrow
as usual i take some extra (outside the aloted budget ;) obviously)... so i have a purchase to show myself
found one for 50ish chf, initially sold for 140ish, recently reduced to 87ish with 2 piece "used & tested" for 78ish ... ish dishd goodish to find that one
i can re use my Micron 512gb (and upgrade it later to 1tb or 2tb if needed )

Just ordered some new Presonus studio monitors to updgrade from the smaller ones I have now.

Dualshock 4 v2. Finally a decent gamepad on my desk. It's been more than a decade since I had any.

never got around the dualshock controller ... i liked the OG controller bundled with the PSone (no thumbstick), and the PSone Classic ... but when it come to thumbstick, Xbox layout hurt my thumbs way less (read "doesn't hurt") than PSDS layout  (sometime asymetric is better than symetric for some peoples ) for my PS2 Slim i had aftermarket controllers with Xbox layout (still have, somewhere ... stashed with the aforementioned console :D )

but ofc, if it feels right for you, it feels right and that's all that count :D

Damn, this usually changes up to a few times a week LOL. Who knows what the most recent was - maybe some Superflower 120x30mm fans I got from NewEgg (legit Phanteks T30 competition!), maybe an Asus Prime AP201 mATX case (very nice BTW), maybe a MediaTek MT7922 Wi-Fi card.... I don't know if a torque wrench counts as tech LOL.

I wanted the XBox's, but I just can't stand the buttons placement. Also, I have very small palms and short fingers. Japanese know what I like, and it's not just anime... To be honest, I'm used to this layout as I have and used the original Playstation for a long time.

i would definitely post if i got a torque wrench ...

well i did post a 5nm torque screwdriver for bike, i got as a freebie alongside more "bike tech", a while ago

Superflower is an awesome brand ... i used several of their PSU since the Phenom II era and they still go on in some friends retro build ( a bit like my legendary Enermax CoolerGiant EG485AX-VHB )
yeah that beauty ... i can't gift it or sell it ... i will have it buried with me when i kick the bucket ... (preferably some time far away in the future :p )

yeah i can understand ... me, i have reasonably "bear sized" paw to the point that i almost want to get a Duke from Hyperkin ... as even the non slim controller for XBOne (Elite and such) are just a smidge too small

85chf is not too much compared to a 35-50ish standard XBOne even more versus my current Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra which is 179chf (paid less, got it during a sale :D )

why do you call it the v2? I didn't know there were different ds4 controllers. DS4 is my all time fav controller, my only one still works thankfully.

I was going to get a spare off eBay but half of those are scam ones so I decided not to. I prefer DS4 to dual sense, ds4 I grip it perfectly, but Dual sense makes my pinky fingers curl strangely and its not comfortable. I have weird hands I guess

Last week around this time I met @neatfeatguy to collect his unused Asus TUF 3080.

Which I still have not been able to successfully mount without my system spending the next half hour firmly out of commission. I suspect a lesser mobo would've packed it in with no chance of getting back up as if nothing happened. Patch notes for most recent BIOS detail addition of Resizable BAR to help deal with 3xxx cards. Soonish

Superflower 120x30mm fans I got from NewEgg (legit Phanteks T30 competition!)

I think Amazon was running a promo they gave one of these away with SF PSU purchases. So jealous of anyone who got in on that.

140mm are supposedly not in the middle ground between Noctua iPPC 3000 and well balanced high end 25mm.

Edit: Newegg doesn't have the 140mm in stock yet.

Because it is an updated version, that originally appeared with the introduction of PS4 Pro and slim models. Some of the key differences are:
1. More durable thumbsticks ruber vs. peeling old ones;
2. Can be used wired vs. just charging and BT as the only connection;
3. Light bar is in the different position.

I hate everything BT apart from my car (and my soundcore bunch), so it's a deal breaker I guess.

Seeing that heatspreader is nostalgic. I remember when I was building my LGA775 pc I was in between those OCZs and Geil's orange one (I like orange the color :D , they were otherwise pretty similar) But I went with Geil's

with these specific Geil's infact  (Bottom one still has the plastic on brand  after 17 years... )

my silver one is the updated version, I had no idea :D nice to know

I'm hoping around black Friday to get the official ds4 direct from Sony website or best buy, i'd like to have a backup. doubt I ever even open it, but if can snag one for 29 bucks on black Friday I will just as backup. I hate the newer controllers from all the companies. ds4 is GOAT for me

OMG, I want one. I don't care that it is ancient. I just want one :)
ahah, well it's my most prized PSU in my collection, it's a 480w got it in 2011, so it was already 6yrs old at the time, although got it BNIB sealed for ~11chf from an auction :D

current offer on Ebay for the golden variant and another one, also gold can't find any red one, aside one auction already ended at ~7 time the price i paid for mine (64£ is roughly 72chf )

back in 2010 up to 2016 i cold get a lot of retro stuff (PSU/CPU/GPU/Mobo et caetera) at what would seems ultra bargain price compared to today  i really should have bought the ATI Rage Fury Maxx i did spot in 2013 for 50ish chf on Ricardo.ch  nowadays : between 399€ to 1100€ on Ebay i need to price check my collection then

talking about bargain and auction ...
just won that one ...
1709710565289.png

aside my Ally, i have nothing Asus ROG in my main rig ... and the Powercolor Hellhound came with her own RIG, buuuutttt ... i like the model and 23chf instead of 48chf ... is a no brainer for a collaboration model ... at last for me

i hope the seller ship today :D

You bid over the most over-engineered GPU holder as of this moment with spirit level bubble, that's permanently menstruating :D

I am not even going to ask...;)
