There is a balance one must find when selecting monitor and gpu.

Its the reason I stayed at 1440 UW and a 7900XTX. If I was looking at 4K for the games I play and the settings I like to use it would have pushed me to a 4090. However the extra $1200 I would have need for this GPU would have bit the wallet hard. So I'm happy where I'm at currently.

If one plays older games you can get away with 4k and something mid range so many factors are in play when making these choices.
You don't need a 4090 for 4K. I have the FV43U and my 7900Xt drives that just fine.

Sure but look at the games you're playing. Pacman will run at 4k on a 1060
And 7900 XT/4070 Ti Super is more than enough if we don't mind lowering settings from Ultra to High and/or enabling a little bit of DLSS/FSR:

4090 as a mandatory is only a thing if you're not satisfied with non-RT gaming. That's uncommon, most gamers can live with zero RT effects enabled.

I don't see a reason for avoiding 4K monitors if you can afford spending 500+ USD on a GPU.

You took 1 of the Games I plated this week and used. How about a brand new Games like Le Mans Ultimate?

It's a racing game. All of those games are super duper lightweight, you're flaunting the super high triple digit fps's in everything, does that even count with the AFMF that you're no doubt using to achieve this?

And 7900 XT/4070 Ti Super is more than enough if we don't mind lowering settings from Ultra to High and/or enabling a little bit of DLSS/FSR:

I agree, I did get a 4080 after all. The 80 and the XTX are perfectly capable 4K gaming GPUs

Sorry AFMF is not turned on. What you don't get is that I don't need any tricks to enjoy my Gaming experience at 4K. I guess you will never believe that a AM5 MB with 2 5.0 drives and the CPU and GPU that I have that I would need any of that anyway. It is what you fail to understand. I do not play the 50 Games that everyone uses for benchmarks but I go to a new Arcade every month with Humble Choice. I have not found a Game that would bring my PC to it's knees.

i mean countless forum members already said it all, you have a nice computer (though built with suboptimal parts that are neither the best nor the cheapest that could fit in the budget) but the proclivity that you have to being defensive of it genuinely kind of weird

if you're gaming humble choice no wonder you haven't found anything that will bring your computer to its knees, the games they sell must be on the light side of system requirements as to keep the subscriber count up. they haven't had great games worth the sub in years though, at one point I had logged in to skip the month 15 consecutive times and that was when I decided that it wasn't worth even keeping my grandfathered Classic account and I canceled it.

Sometimes you make it too easy. I don't care what you think about my parts or choices.

I know you want to tell me that my PC cannot do what I see it do but that is the same as saying that Humble Choice is not worth it. For $13.99 it is pretty good. You are not a Gamer as you don't need to know about a Game for it to be good. It does not matter though because when I am Gaming, you are the last person I think about.

By making an ecosystem that will captivate the players' attention and marketing it well.

AMD has never been successful at either of these.
I disagree. We don't need ecosystems. What we need is open standards, freedom of choice and not being screwed over if we choose one brand of graphics card over another.

While Windows (itself a pillar of closed source, commercial software) is the bedrock of everything else, fat chance there

Going by the reactions, people seem to think it's funny that AMD fans themselves (among others ofc) want FSR to be hardware accelerated to better compete with XeSS and DLSS. Is it odd or humorous to like AMD, use their products ,and yet want them to improve and make better products? I suppose so to some.

Now a rabbit out of a hat would be competitive IQ and retain compatibility, perhaps XeSS style where there are multiple codepaths, where it will always use the best acceleration method available based on detected hardware. This presents challenges for optics though i suppose.

I wonder if it would be possible for XeSS (and the upcoming FSR) to run on tensor cores and achieve the same quality as on the XMX cores. I assume that NVIDIA doesn't lock down that part of the GPU and anyone can use it for whatever they want?
It's probably just that Intel wants to have the advantage on their own GPUs. And I don't mind that at all, as long as we get all three options in every game. Hopefully DirectSR will make that really easy and AMD gets on board (they didn't want NVIDIA Streamline).

There's no use case for that, because anything with tensor cores can run DLSS/DLAA, both of which are superior to XeSS, so what's the point?

Hopefully AI FSR will come to at least the level of XeSS, but we'll see.

Maybe another year or two then AMD will catch up to where Intel is today with upscaling tech, and NVIDIA was two years ago.

I guess it's to be expected though, getting console level IQ on a GPU architecture designed for consoles, and which struggles to capture more than 15% of PC marketshare, even with the popularity of Radeon iGPUs in laptops.

My personal prediction is that AI FSR will become decent when the console refreshes with tensor core equivalents are released, and there's actually a userbase that can run the AI acceleration.

True. But tell me why I can play many first rate titles on a 6650XT @4k over 60FPS, on Ultra settings and some won't even load. It's not about power it's about dev's getting lazy and cheap.

I'm going to assume that those games do not look as good as say Cyberpunk.

F1 , Apex Legends, Asseto Corso etc. Can you really tell me games look much different now than they did 5 yrs ago? I started on Pong so to me graphics in games have hit a plateau in the last years. It's like they keep adding features but for what? Real looking hair? Shiny reflections? Smokier smoke?

How about Hogwarts Legacy? A bit further up, I mentioned that my 1660 Ti runs it at 60 FPS at 4K Ultra, thanks to some aggressive upscaling and the sharpening slider.

This game honestly looks like it was almost finished by a group of deceased individual developers cca 2010 and dudes just accidentally found it in their warehouse about a dozen years later. 1440p Ultra in Hogwarts looks much more dated than 1080p Medium in Cyberpunk. And Cyberpunk isn't the most beautiful and graphically advanced game to begin with.

I kindly disagree. I am actually stunned by how detailed the castle is even with ray tracing off (which doesn't really do anything in this game anyway).
