Retailers Begin Offering Core i9-14900KS Pre-orders, March 14 Launch Likely

Another pre-release discovery arrives courtesy of the ever vigilant tech watcher; momomo_us—SE Computer, a store located in the bustling streets of Kowloon, Hong Kong, has listed the incoming flagship Raptor Lake Refresh part with a price of HK$5500 (~$709.70 USD). An accompanying image appears to be a placeholder, since warehouse leaks have displayed "Special Edition" text on Intel's signature blue retail boxes.

Privileged members of the overclocking community are already playing around with Intel's selectively-binned 14th Gen Core processor—but mere mortals will have to wait patiently for an official retail rollout. The graphics card news specialist has scoured online entities across Asia, France and Canada for price comparison purposes: "it appears that the KS 'Special Edition' variant is set to cost 19 to 30% more than the K variant. Pricing varies depending on the size of the retailer, where the offer was placed, and the region it is being sold." They thoroughly recommend that potential customers avoid pre-ordering the Intel Core i9-14900KS—asking prices could stabilize post-launch, and e-tailers rarely sell through the first batch of niche "KS" CPUs.

Very few to almost no one will be buying this however so the 14900KS is more like a theoretical processor than a real one.

~20% markup for the best bins of Intel's top (and possibly final) monolithic CPU is worth it if you enjoy tuning, these things will be beasts.

It's certainly cheaper than what siliconlottery and similar services used to charge for pre binned chips.

Yep, but as the saying goes "A fool & his/her money are soon parted"

IMO, most KS chips are only meant for those folks who believe they MUST have the "latest & greatest", or those who posses more $$ than brains/common sense, at least at launch time anyways !

Even IF I was in the market for a new CPU, I most CERTAINLY would not be paying these highway robbery prices, I can wait a few months or even 6, until the prices come way, way day

It's money saved if your looking for a 110+ SP rating. But it is also really late since the new socket is just around the corner.

I never thought of that, true, this CPU and a rtx 4090 may be the last true monolith build that can ever be done. not sure if 5090 will be monolith or not

RTX 5090 will be almost certainly be monolithic, they pushed back the MCM cards because RDNA 4 isn't even trying to compete in high end.

Just like practically no one bought the i9-13900KS either. Or even the 12900KS and 9900KS before them. These are limited run binned chips. Treat their K counterparts (9900K, 12900K, 13900K, 14900K) as the actual flagship product. There's nothing theoretical about them, they're just built to a higher standard than the regular variant. They are meant to be the most perfect, high-quality samples Intel has.

I see it as 30% more money for a lot lower power draw. It's the green option. If I'm lucky to get my hands on one I'll put it against a 13900k, match the clockspeeds and compare the power draw. I expect up to 100w less power under full load for the ks part.
