14900 KS - the fastest Intel processor ever launched secretively almost an hour ago, apparently nobody except two reviewers got it in time for reviews.

No shops have it for sale either - except possibly Microcenter in the US?

Is Intel not proud of its new product???

Two reviews so far:

OC3D TV review was amazing. Just finished watching it before opening thread.

Tempting to direct quote how stressful his review was.

Toms removed it probably because they launched it early. NDA times and stuff.

Half a year of being the best is not that bad.

BTW if AMD wanted to spoil this period they could announce their upcoming product with some performance figures.

Even that is technically arguable since if we take ALL CPUs currently available, not just desktop, then obviously in any multi-threaded workload it would get slaughtered by current Threadrippers.
With CPUs it’s not as easy as with GPUs where you can reasonably point to whatever is unequivocally the fastest. But yeah, you are right overall.

I think they're claiming fastest clock speed. I'm not sure either AMD or Intel have anything with a faster clock on their immediate road map.

But yeah, for the history of CPUs, just wait six months and your purchase is outdated. Still does what it did when you bought it though.

From a practical standpoint, the KS skus are pointless, but I kind of miss the days when people were actually excited to see fastest clock speeds and largest core counts. With the massive number of incredible choices in CPUs and GPUs, I think people have become numb to how good things are right now.

Perhaps, or they just see through the fact this is no longer a matter of science and advancements in silicon, but just bleeding old tech dry until it can't give anymore.

The real advancements in CPU aren't in raw clock anymore, really. Yes, yes, you can get a few hard % of performance on top of anything from an OC. But the big advances are made with cache, chiplets, E-cores. Not so much higher clocking. That really is just a marketing thing more than anything now. Yes, you can juice things up right out of the factory and ask a massive premium, amazing. Back in the day there was some actual OC headroom left in a top end SKU without going way out of line on power. Now its sought out for you, the lottery is practically gone with it, and efficient undervolting became somewhat more interesting for 24/7 usage.

Has it got threaded E-cores or did the reviewer get it wrong?

Still cannot beat the 7800X3D in gaming though. Intel need to try harder if they want that crown.

This is due to the fact that I already bought them all, everywhere, all at once, all the time, except for those 2 review units that I leaked out, both of which are under contract to be returned to me as soon as testing is completed....

And YES, I got a significant discount for doing so...but I did this to spare all the average joe's of the world from having to deal with the fact that they will need a $2k/3Kw PSU just to run them at anywhere near the claimed speeds.....

You're welcome :D

It should read; The fastest BURNING ENERGY processor. Your kids will thank you for it later. Almost 400W, really ridiculous... Soon we need a 2KW power supply standard.

It is the best in single thread performance, winning the heat production contest and very often also winning in multithreaded applications. This is a true extreme product.

Wow, somebody just bought the first one! (not me)
Ah, so it's not just a CPU, but also a space heater! 2 in 1! I guess that's one way to look at it.

Now you're sitting on five or ten megawatts of chips. I think I'm envious, and your close neighbours should be a bit nervous.
