How silly do you think it would be to run an i9 on a little itx Strix B660?

Probably pretty silly..FUN
What's the worst that could happen

Besides two DIMM motherboards overclock the best anyway and Strix boards are very well built.

palpatine-dewit.gif

You've got 8x 60 Amp power stages on there, 480 amps, 1.5 V so 720 W peak CPU power delivery if my math is correct.

Silly thing is my own board has 10x 110 Amp for 1100 Amps, literally how would I ever come close to needing that on AM5?

It would be pretty fun.. maybe I will scoop some ram for it. I have a CPU on loan so I can update the bios and IME.. something like that.. Right now it has that bios that lets you overclock CPU's that cant.. a beta bios. I have not run the board yet so I am not 100% on what I am talking about :D

Yeah for the 5950x but the 7950x (and that 18.67 isn't a typo)
Eh, SMT working a bit better on Zen 4 with faster RAM to share for all those threads and a wider execution.

Not surprised Intel is ditching Hyperthreading with next gen platform though, who needs it when you've got 24 cores, if ditching it makes the cores faster and leaner, with less security holes.

I really hope Intel will show something better with the new gen CPUs. The 14th gen and KS model is like the same old stuff over and over. Rehash of a rehash.

TBH no one currently keeping this thread alive is interested in what owners think or tested. I'm not participating because of that, and even if I wanted to I would probably just trade a post or two with @Outback Bronze or @Super Firm Tofu in some other thread. Maybe like we did on page 8. It's also likely why they are not posting. Nothing about the current discussion indicates any kind of openmindedness or technical curiosity.

I'd almost rather post in the news thread; and I generally only rank those slightly higher than a cesspit.

Less that I didnt even watch the vid, nor tbh do I even care to.
If the thread was called "Experiences with the 14900KS" or "Core i9 14th gen owners club", then it would encourage users to add a lot more value to the discussion, imo. There is already a value judgement in the very title, which usually doesn't bode well. I'm surprised the thread has still survived after 11 pages, to be honest.

Nothing can compete with AMD 3D chips in gaming efficiency.

Power draw of the 14900KS is perfectly explainable by the amount of cores, frequency and the old process this CPU is made with. BTW when you see 7800X3D consuming 60W and the 14900K 120W, the latter one is in fact a very good power draw, considering all the above information.

Compare 14900K with 7950X - that could be a meaningful and fair comparison.

I see in some games in the video, Intel uses 2.5 times more power than AMD. That is crazy considering how close in gaming performance these two are.

No, that is not crazy, that is perfectly explainable difference.

AMD has four advantages:
  • special CPU for gaming with large cache
  • low frequency
  • modern manufacturing process
  • chip well scaled to the load

Intel has three disadvantages:
  • old manufacturing process
  • too high frequency
  • chip too large for the load
This comparison is like comparing a fat disabled middle age man with a young athlete on the track. This is not only meaningless compariton, it is, in fact, bulying.

There is only ONE CHIP that 7800X3D can be compared to: 5800X3D.

I'd like to close this thread down. It needs to be retired. I think the only people that will object would be those going round in circles arguing semantics.

I'll happily do so if another member creates a thread for people interested in the processor, or those who've bought one early. The caveat being, it will be for those interested in the tech, i.e., a thread without the interlopers, a thread without smug remarks. Just tech, overclocking, and cooling.

Who will help me shoot this tired old thread in the face? @ me when the beautiful new thread is created. And - when it is created for Intel users and tech types interested in pushing the chip, I'll happily eject those who come to disrupt the party.

Why do you even care and have posted so much in this thread when you don't have this CPU and probably never will. you made your choice with your 7800X3D.

There is no reason to close a thread, where people talk without breaking any rules. This is a public forum.

I do not feel entitled to assess usefulness of the discussion of other people. I though that this thread will end after my post seven, but apparently people enjoy discussing - if people want to talk about something, why not to let them?

Of course it would be good to have another thread focused on user tests of this CPU.

This seems biased to me since you compare advantages of one product to disadvantages of the other to prove a point or excuse something being not as good as it should.
Middle aged man? I think it is inaccurate unless this middle aged man is AMD since this one is older than newly release Intel chip.
Intel could have gone with a better node but didn't. It was a decision so you should not put it as a disadvantage. Same goes for frequency.
Your statement is totally biased in my opinion my friend.

If you put a new t-shirt on a fat middle aged man, it will not improve his abilities. And no, you will never win a race, if you have more weight on you than what is necessary for the race.

Because the age of Intel process the contestant could be even considered being a pensioner.

I must say, your examples to show some of your insight and excuse something or someone are very disturbing. If you put a middle aged old man in a race car, I'm sure he'll do way better with his experience than a young wimp with abnormal attitude. Decision making has a reason and consequences, so if you want to end up like that fat middle age man that is your choice. Maybe Intel chose to go with current node since they did not see benefit in investing in a new one with the current product and, they did what they could with the current node. You should judge something on its merit not excuse with disadvantages they had, while it was their own decision.
I think those two guys enjoyed that, and one of them is sick in bed needing something to do. Let them be...
What you said is sick, just because you don't acknowledge people have different perspectives and calling someone sick in bed is below the belt. Solely, because they disagree with you.

Seems we don't. I am currently making one

No, the guy is really sick in bed. Please calm down.
So you decided to bring it up in a forum as an argument? nice

Why would Intel use a new node for a refresh? No sense at all.

When you are stuck in the bed and have nothing to do, you may enjoy being able to talk to somebody.

There is really nothing wrong about pointing this out.

Hi,
I've seen threads lock way sooner than this
Matter of fact if there was a news thread it would of been locked and referred to it.

1 Review thread
2 News threads I believe.
