i am having so much fun playing Outcast "2" ... i am glad they did a remake of the first one, because even tho i played the fist one in 1999, i had a K6-2 3DNow with 512mb RAM at the time
but then in 2000 i got a Duron on socket A with 1gb RAM and an Athlon Thunderbird a few month later (and the 1.1 remaster recently ) i still have the CDs of the original game somewhere (and probably the manual )
i need to de-fog that with a mod
but darn the game look beautiful and run smoothly (only 1 crash in 10hrs)
the remake make the transition between the two, easier
but Outcast was definitely an awesome game graphically and technically speaking even in 1999
although the "Voxel" (in fact it was rather a Ray Casting engine and not a true Voxel Engine ) was taxing on CPUs, specially the one i had when i bought it.
and Outcast "2" bring so much about what happened to Cutter Slade in between, but he's not voiced by the same VA, in the original it was David Gasman (which hilariously did sound like Bruce Willis )
my first thought: yep, ya got old cutter (and so did i!
), 2 decades but yeah, that's what you would expect for a character when he get 20yrs in the legs
(interestingly the sequell is 25yrs later and iirc they also mirrored that in the game, more or less 20yrs in game from what i gather) and sound old but, still good enough, hilarious and all ... (although, he shouldn't look or sound old, a huge plot twist, no spoiler, is in the mix, that make his change almost invalide ... but it's fine)
fun bit : Appeal intended an Outcast II : the Lost Paradise but bankrupted in 2010, sold the franchise and then reacquired it in 2014 (then they remastered it to 1.1 same year and remake 3years later )
glad they re acquired the franchise and made "A New Beginning"
and imho the change in the main character is not as bad as the one i saw between Elex and Elex II
edit, well after 10hrs i decided to drop a manual save ... i searched in the inventory for a green crystal ... did not find it ... then i saw "Save Load" well i am single ... so i save loads on domestic spending ... oh wait ... WHAT? no Gaamsaav? outrage! uninstalled!! REFUNDED!!! (obviously a joke ...
)
