Skydance New Media, helmed by award-winning writer and director Amy Hennig, and Marvel Games today shared new details on their upcoming narrative-driven action-adventure game, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. A new trailer gives fans a sneak peek into an original story that takes players on a WWII-era adventure with an ensemble of four heroes playable at different points in the game.

As the game's narrative unfolds, players will assume the role of four central characters: a young Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America; Azzuri, T'Challa's grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris.

The new story trailer was revealed at Epic Games' State of Unreal keynote on March 20, 2024, where Skydance New Media and Epic Games announced their ongoing collaboration to bring state-of-the-art visuals to Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Showcasing the latest features of Epic's Unreal Engine 5.4, Skydance New Media unveiled the trailer as well as a special sneak peek of a key scene between Captain America and Black Panther in Occupied Paris.

With the game's release in 2025, players can look forward to exhilarating gameplay inspired by Marvel's landmark comics, films, and television series. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra captures the action, excitement, and globe-trotting adventure that has delighted fans for decades. We're excited to share more down the road.

…okay, I am sorry, but this is getting comical. I am not one to complain about “wokeness” and what-not, but seriously? Four characters, of whom THREE are black and the remaining one is Captain America who is here as a selling point for the game, obviously. And part of the game is set in the European theatre, mind you. You want cool diversity points? Why not someone non-Slavic from the USSR? Or maybe someone of Middle Eastern descent who fought in the African theatre? An Indian from the Raj, maybe? No? Maybe someone Jewish would be on topic? Or even if someone black, why just not make them from the French territories, not the magical kingdom? I swear modern companies have no idea what interesting things they can do and just default to the most boring, modern-USA point of view. Do… do they even know that there are more ethnicities than just “White” and “Afro-American”?

Obviously you are one to complain. I didn't even notice the "wokeness" until i seen your comment. Who cares as long as the game is enteraining. The game's european setting w/ black characters isnt that hard to believe considering there are super humans running around on rooftops..

So let me get this straight, two of your biggest complaints are that the game has too many Black people and that those Black people are not from places colonized by Europeans? Lol.

You're looking for historical accuracy from a cinematic universe with witches, wizards, and ancient gods?

You are aware that the shield that Captain America is famous for came from that "magical kingdom" aren't you?

Instead of "diversity points" you may be shocked to know that some people would actually enjoy a well written story centered around Black Panther, just like the movie that made over a billion dollars....

The Wakanda films did well at the box office. It's simple marketing. There's nothing iffy about it other than obvious opportunism. Not to mention more than one million African Americans fought in WW2. Not an inconsequential number.

Yes, there were 2.5 million allied Indian soldiers, but it doesn't fit the game's marketable narrative. Regardless, I've got zero interest in Marvel games. Yawnfest.

As soon as I saw that title banner I knew the comment section was going to be all about "The Woke" or whatever.

Its funny how a term about systemic racism seems to have been subverted to provide cover for anyone who gets triggered by seeing black people in something.

Black Panther was awful, it was the last super hero i ever watched either from Marvel or DC Comics.
IMHO a well written story needs to be plausible, but this is not:
and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris.
Now, if we are talking about ze Germans that occupied Paris in World War 2, then yes, a black young person is the perfect spy, no one would suspect
But by all means enjoy you fantasy, it might have an actual good explanation that i ask you to please share with us after you play the game.

PS: the devs are doing it for the share holders and their money, they go in whatever direction the wind money blows ;)

You remind me similar comments about Alan Wake 2 and the change from white/& blonde Saga Anderson as she was seen in Quantum Break easter egg to Melanie Liburd.

I just don't understand how you (not you personally) can notice these and why it matters.

Regardless of whether you liked it or not, it did incredibly well at the box office so there's clearly a market for it.

Plausible? How plausible is it for an 8ft tall purple guy to kill half of all life in the universe by snapping his fingers while wearing a glove with colorful stones?

Don't even get me started on a thunder god surviving the vacuum of space, getting hit by the rays of a star, having a sentient tree chop off its arm to make a handle for magical ax forged by a giant dwarf, all so he can teleport from space to Earth.

By your own definition, one of the biggest selling movies of all-time wasn't well written because it wasn't plausible.

Ok then, make Black Panther white? You got a problem with that?

Enjoy your Sweet Baby Inc shit!
Go to your gamergate conspiracies bubble and never come back. You argue with people about your perceived danger to white (male) people in video games, in a forum about an article regarding a comic universe video game with Black Panther in 1943...

Anyways the story so far seems to be some Civil War-like stuff:
Two testosterone filled dickhead heroes smash their heads together (super unprofessional for people with literal superpowers/responsibalities btw), lose sight of the actual threat, baddies win for the day.

I made a comment on Youtube regarding Woke an wondering what the hell it had to do with Gaming. I have been a Gamer since I was a kid and never thought that Culture War issues would be a part of Gaming. After all Gaming is supposed to be about fun. So I have been drinking some DABs so let's go down the Rabbit hole.

TWWH3 has a mod called the Old World. It has fantasy islands in what would be the Atlantic. It has Atlantis represented by Ulthuan. It also has India, Asia and the Japanese Isles. It also has North And South America and Europe. It even has the Sahar Desert. Do you know what is missing? Yes Antarctica is missing but even more glaring is Continental Africa, even though Egypt is fully represented without thinking that that there has been influence from Assyria, Rome, Muslim Arabia and Europe over the last 2000+ years i what we call Egpyt today.

How about Bioshock Infinite. One of the most critically acclaimed Games of it's time that showed overt racism throughout the entire Game. It was interesting that no review contained that distinction except a few.

This one is special because it was a great display of the push back against the rise of a call for DEI in American society. Of course that was made into a negative by the same people that tell you that your wife is not in control of her own destiny. Well there were 2 Games that were on people's radar that were essentially the same except for one distinction a White teen girl and then a black (coloured but they lump them all together) teen girl. One Game was released and had bugs on the PC version but got patches and it became one of the highest rated Games of it's time. One contained a non white teen girl and was released with Direct Storage for super fast load times and well optimized at launch for PC. Of course that Game got bombed for doing that and became a part of the narrative. If you look at Forspken and HZD, they are both Action RPGs and share many of the same button patterns.

It like how we get original content for one of the Greatest fantasy tales of the past century in that Lord Of the Rings production on Amazon but it is stupid and an affront to some because there are coloured Elves and Dwarves. I guess that is why Xmen 97 is a breath of fresh air. Who wants to act like Apocaplyse and none of us can appreciate Magneto's pain in seeing the past come to life. Indeed the Friends of Humanity would be well received in some right wing circles.

You mean like Ra's Al Ghul played by Liam Neeson and the Ancient One played by Tilda Swinton? Lol. Not Black but definitely a race swap to a White person.

Real people getting race swapped: John Wayne playing Genghis Khan, Angelina Jolie playing Mariane Pearl, Jim Sturgess playing Jeffrey Ma, Sean Connery playing Mulai Ahmed Er Raisuni.

Also Scarlett Johansson playing Motoko Kusanagi, Laurence Olivier playing Othello, Kirsten Dunst playing Edwina, Angelina Jolie playing Fox, Jennifer Lawrence playing Katniss Everdeen, Christian Bale playing Moses.

For SOME reason, none of these were a problem. Lol.

As long as it's good game with reasonable system requirements I'm set.
IDGAF what race/sex/orientation etc the characters are, just the same as I don't with people IRL.

It's weird too because these whole franchises are cringeworthy drivel before getting into the political crap. I think whatever the IC is doing with this kind of mass media is a lot more nuanced and sinister than "throw black people into historical Europe even when it's ahistorical."
