I picked 8 TB, but either that or the "lot more" are the options I'd consider. Technically have 6 TB in my laptop at this moment, but plan to upgrade it to 12 TB in the near-ish future so I don't need to uninstall steam games often, if ever.

I have three NVMe M.2 PCIe4 x4 SSDs, a 256GB model for OS only, and 2x 2TB models for games. I also have a 4TB SATA SSD, and a 2TB SATA SSD for games as well.....and a 6TB WD Black HDD for older games. That's a total of 16GB for games (I do hoard my games), I also have a WD 3TB HDD for my music/movie/Spotify/download/etc...so, no need to say I'd voted 'A Lot More'. :rockout: I guess that means a total 0f 19.25GB ....

For me, I have an 512 GB SSD for system and util programs
2 TB SSD for temp files like newly imported pics and videos
10 TB HDD for keeping the raw files and exported media
and an other 2 TB SSD for the games and more other misc files in my main rig.
And I also have a "media server" to archive/backup my important files with 6+14 GB HDD, sadly only on gigabit speed, but hopefully I can speed it up to 2,5 or maybe 10 gigabit in the not too distant future :)

OK, i buyed the Corsair MP600 Pro NH 8TO, the QVO will be for backups (switch) and i can disable ASMedia Sata in my Bios !!

But, at 800 euros, what flash/controller do i espect to find in ? Is there some goods and some less ??

Multiple hardware versions found.
Performance could vary due to unannounced flash/controller changes.

Hi,
Yeah couple main rigs z490 and new laptop with 4tb storage for myself is plenty to grow into for a while both are pretty much clones of each other except for the laptop has more games on it atm not even half used.
500gb-1tb os normally atm
I have a 980 pro 2tb as os that I shrunk to 250gb lol it's really storage for x299 but I'm not using it atm so just checking it out on z490 now.
This is my z490 D is mostly movies

umm i think maybe 133TB
I have nofa king clue how you can stand having tv shows split across 8 drives.

I am also surprised no bulk arrays given the amount of space you have.

I think right now if you're build a new rig, you must have 2TB, but lean towards 4 for reasonable longevity.

8TB. I don't have a fast internet connection so have to store games locally, media locally etc..

But my storage breaks out like this-

480GB boot drive- SX8200 ADATA
2TB SSHD Seagate FireCuda
500GB Hitachi HDD
1TB NVMe SSD ADATA SX8200 Pro in a USB3.1 enclosure.
1TB NVMe SSD ADATA SX8200 Pro (bought it new back in Sept when prices were like $50 shipped for it.. unused, saving it for a backup in-case of a drive failure)

I had to change my vote from 8 tb "a lot more"

I have recently begun to download a lot more video content from old YouTube days. I went on a nostalgia trip and ended up watching trubritar, maxishine, and Logan from Tigerdirect only to realize the video quality was significantly degraded. I thought; weird, maybe I'm old and I don't recall how bad video looked in 07-08. I compared this to vhs, and can see a noticeable difference how old videos no one cares about are compressed to worthlessness. Since last year I have used up 2 more TB. I just ordered two more 8 TB drives.

Estimating my storage needs (in GB) by year based on purchase history:

2006: 160 - 320
2010: 500 - 750
2012: 1000 - 2000
2014: 2000 - 3000
2018: 3000 - 6000
2023: 6000 - 8000
2024: 8000 - 22000

This should tell you all you need to know about me.
1711066020264.png

Main disk is a 240GB Corsair MP510 NVMe with junk specs and if I had the foresight it would have been a pair of them in stripe.
Secondary is a 120GB sata where I dump stuff for curation. I've been lazy this month.
D$ is a networked HDD with just under 40K hours and mostly holds deployment shares, various archives, 3D models, VMs, YT downloads, etc.
T$ is my new and current iSCSI host HDD. A future deposit for the LARGE files from D$ and an ingest with high availability in mind.
So I'm doing some sorting and shuffling stuff around. I have a particular type of workflow where most of it just isn't on my workstation.

For a gaming rig, 2TB is plenty as I don't need to keep everything installed. For storing media/data storage, 10-12TB is enough, at least for me.

Why can't they be removed? Just click "uninstall", and install it again when you need it next time. Constantly patching and downloading DLCs eats up write cycles, too.

It normally cost more write cycles to do a full download again other than leaving on the SSD & accept a small patch. Also If you know you paid for a DLC in advance why would you delete a game knowing a DLC is on it's way. This seems like another waste of write cycles.

∞ TB all sold out on Newegg. Seems the ETA is indefinite.
Hey what's that, some kind of subscription where they send you two 20 TB disks every time their app detects less than 40 TB free on your PC NAS 42U storage server?
