Here I have 2 HDs connected to the Asmedia 6G controller, everything works normally I'm using w11 22h2 updated, in bios I leave ahci using driver v3.3.5.0Small info for fellow x79 users:
You all know that Intel had to make a chipset revision because of 6G problems and it seems 10 years later the problem shows it's head:
about two weeks ago, one of the disks connected to Intel 6G port started disconnecting randomly.
I've disabled Intel SATA controller and used ASMedia 1061 for 6G connectivity.
About a week ago I've started getting "Machine exception check" BSOD (when lucky) when scanning hardware.
System worked completely normally until I scanned for hardware changes or tried to install new drivers for anything - from GPU to G13 keyboard.
So I've swapped from 1680V2 to 2667V2 and no change. Then to 3930k - same deal ...
Then I tested RAM sticks one by one, then PSU, GPU, completely disassembling the board, washing it, new pads, etc...
After days of hair pulling I tried to search for a new motherboard, but, OMG, people around here are asking 200 euros for x79 MB
Anyway, as last desperate thing, I've disconnected disks and voila - everything worked! Then I connected them to 3G ports and again - everything worked!
So it looks like external 6G SATA controller isn't connected by PCIe bus but somehow goes through Intel 6G controller and if that one fails, external will cause problems as well.
Hope it helps someone to save their hairline ...
4gb is work but 8gb or 16 or 32Very unlikely. Not because of the CPU, but because ASUS does not support RDIMMs on their consumer line of boards.

Wow yeah welcome to the thread but that cpu is definitely hungry for voltage!Running my 1680V2 at 4488 stable. I had to tone down from 4501. My chip needs alot of vcore. I'm using 1.475v with 180% LLC.

I actually got one myself few years ago. Was just too lazy to ever bother disassembling mobo and put it back just for a water block lol

However temps seem quite low for whatever stress test you ran, are you on water for cooling?

Nice setup. Yeah ditto been on X79 since 2012 lol. Currently on Frankenstein expanded AIO but last I fired it up overheated quickly so pump is shit or rads/hoses are clogged from months of sitting since my last long usage.I'm using a H110i with 4 140mm fans. under full avx load it does up to 72c. But when my rtx 3080 suprim starts blowing 420watts it can go +10c I'm currently looking to upgrade from X79, I've been using it since 2012. I had a 3820, 3930k and since 2021 the 1680v2.

I don’t know whether to mourn its death or celebrate its long life!My main X79 rig went poof last night. The first time in 12 years since I built it. I'll do an autopsy on it later this afternoon to see what can be saved from it. I have plenty of parts on hand to revive it and this time it's getting Win 10 Enterprise LTSC IoT as the operating system.

CelebrateI don’t know whether to mourn its death or celebrate its long life!
My x79 currently not working properly due to overheating which I chalk up to water cooling plugged up from sitting so long unused. I got an air cooler to try and revive it.

Yay!!! I like good news on old X79 systems! They live on as us old folks do who tinker with them .It lives again! List of new parts added:
1. Seasonic Focus Platinum PX-750 PSU. Replaced ancient Corsair HW-1050.
2. Finally did the pump gasket/cold plate upgrade on its Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240. The plate looked far better than the last one I did on a 280.
3. Replaced the 15 year old LiteOn iHBS 212 DVD burner with a new Asus unit I had in my parts stash.
4. Replaced the XFX R9 Fury X with a XFX RX 6700. One less old part to worry about dying.
It appears the PSU failed and resulted in corrupting the OS SSD and backup HD. Fortunately I'd transferred the last backup (3 days old) to an external HD beforehand. Oddly the backup on the external drive wouldn't install. I got the failure message "No operating system found". I pulled the SSD, put it in my 9900K rig and ran Samsung Magician diagnostics on it. It showed no issues so I reformatted it, reinstalled it and disconnected everything but that OS SSD in the X79. I was then able to do the image reinstall off the external HD. I plugged everything else back in, fired it up and installed the new video drivers. I had to change the send to and drive path locations for the other drives. I also had to reformat the internal backup HD. I ran MAS but since I'm running Win 10 2019 Enterprise N it won't let me change the OS to an IoT version unless I do a complete reinstall.

1,28V is 4.4GHz territory...So I finally got my hands on the famous E5 1680 V2
45€ from aliexpress, seems good so far, everything auto except RAM and some DIGI+ tunnings, it turbo boost itself with a strange 3975Mhz all cores with 1.28V
