Generative AI is definitely in its infancy but machine learning has been around for a while in consumer electronics.Yes, but AI is still considered to be in its infancy, which is why I raise the question as to whether or not there will be a split between graphics & AI. When I say s"split", I don't mean that graphics will lose its dependency on AI, but rather that it will reach a point where the two will have to be distinct with respect to hardware(i.e. having to buy a RTX 6090 GPU + RTX 6090 APU).

If anything comes this year it will only be the 5090. 5070 probably 3-6 Months later so waiting is stupid as it always was. In fact you can now make good deals on ada cards and or rdna 3 cards. It wont get much better they will simply sell out and get repleaced.I wouldn't grab anything until later this year, either nvidia release a nice step up

Nvidia doesnt care.. At this point we should be happy that nvidia makes gaming gpus at all. They could simply throw away the trash chips which are all the gaming gpus and use the space for their AI at tsmc which makes them 100 times more money. So yes in fact we should be happy that we get nvidia gpus at the moment.nvidia waits for your return

Nah, Nvidia should take all their tensor bullshit to enterprise, I'm not even kidding. Ever since RTX things have gone straight into the shitter. GTFO. Okay. So you're not waiting out Supers like you recommended earlier to others. You're gonna trade down gen-to-gen instead Well aren't you the conscious buyerinstead of crying like you i will enjoy my 5070. my first sentence still stands.
the prices are clearly affordable otherwise nvidia would not make billions with gaming.

More like how cornered they are, I think; part of that is also AMD's fault, too.i dont really care tbh. i only said that because it would be smarter. but if people would be smarter while buying stuff we would not have this price situation. but as i said the prices are affordable the numbers show it clearly.
within 2 gens we went to 1600€ top end gpus they just swapped the 80ti with a 90 suffix . thats how dumb people are.

I find this thread funny. OP clearly stated he feels more comfy with an AMD card and most here start throwing him Nvidia cards in his face. Don't you people even read OPs post?
As for waiting for 8000 series GPU. Well rumors are they won't be faster in rasterization than the 7900 XTX however the cards are believed to be a good amount cheaper and have better Ray-Tracing. As for availability well rumors are going for Early Q4 2024 so far.
The main reason why no huge speed improvements are expected is that the 8000 series GPU will be like AMD's CPU's based on chiplet design aka MCM. The disadvantage in this is that it needs a lot of internal testing and optimization before it can go public hence more focusing on getting the multi chip design right before going faster. The advantage is that chips can become smaller and you can separate stuff that doesn't need high speeds in bigger production processes slashing the costs of the chips. Making a huge monolithic chips is really really expensive.
All that said your current 6800 XT won't be that much faster than a 7800 XT. More like 10% at most. So unless you are really hitting the limit that the card can handle I would stick with it and see how the 8000 series will turn out.

Personally I'd take even a RX 6300 over a RTX 4090 if I'd get one of those for free. I just don't want to support that unimaginably greedy company in any way anymore. And the way they treat consumers these days is just ridiculous.
