Zero issues here with an ancient Rosewill Capstone Gold 1KW or the much newer Silverstone SX1000R SFX-L. The 7900 XTX will put the Lian Li 850w SFX in to protection if you look at it funny, though.

Must just be the luck of the draw I have 4 seasonic psu and all work fine with a 4090 2 will shut down with a 3080ti ftw3 though which seasonic offered replacements for.

I've used seasonic prime units with 3090ti builds with 0 issues as well. The highest end amd card I've tested with them is a 6800XT so not too demanding even though transients are a bit high.

Fun fact the 2 psu that shutdown with the 3080ti worked fine with a PNY 3090....

Hi,

They offered useless support but after explaining that the card worked fine on 3 of my 5 power supplies one with the same wattage all seasonic branded they were very accommodating... To be fair it shut down my RM/G2 units as well but they are both old and are retired. Seasonic told me it was likely UCP triggering not OCP from the transients spiking and then randomly dropping quickly not sure how accurate that is though.

Except it most likely is not their fault. Most level 1 help desk workers barely make minimum wage. If they get any training, it is how to answer the phone/help desk request and how to follow the most basic of checklists/flowcharts. They aren't trained to think - in fact many are told not to think, don't be innovative or show any initiative. And above all else, do not deviate from the checklist. :(

Ignorance isn't usually the individuals fault. Sorry if I implied that. Most are willing to learn given a chance I believe (and appropriate pay ofc) but anyways, same end result.

Right, same result but it is definitely management's fault - unwilling to invest in their support personnel.

From a business viewpoint, I get it. Tech support is always a money losing expense since tech support does not bring in money to the business (unless repair IS the business).

In fact, if me, I not only would check for proper wiring and grounding, I would measure the voltage too. A few years ago, the tap on the transformer feeding the houses on my block failed - but all the lights were still on! ??? If it hadn't been for my UPSs alarming, I never would have seen that instead of 120VAC, we were getting 146VAC!

I found an option in my bios that suggests over-current on my RAM can cause an instant power-off. It's set to default 100% (optionally goes to 130%). My ram is 3600 MHz and high voltage, but only 2 sticks. Though it seem weird that changing the GPU would start tickling that.

The 7900 XTX is not an ATX 3.0+ spec GPU since it uses the old connectors, but the ATX version does not actually matter, just the PSU capacity. If we go by label, mine is ATX v2.31 and I am running a 4080 just fine on it. All it's gotta do is handle the transients correctly and the PSU is good to go.

Could be. They never told us exactly what happened. What I do know is they temporarily fixed it that night by moving the tap over to the next contact. That put us all at 129VAC - a bit above the 120VAC standard, but acceptable for the time being. About a week later, they took us all off-line again for about an hour while they replaced the transformer with a brand new one. We are all now sitting at 120.0VAC. :)

All I can say is I am glad I have all my computers, home theater electronics and TV on decent UPSs. Otherwise, without all their alarms going off when I got home, I would not have known there was a problem with the power, until my fridge, AC, or sensitive electronics (and maybe my house!) went up in smoke - perhaps literally! :twitch:

If I tried to use your PSU with my system I'm pretty sure it would shut down immediately my GPU alone uses 463 Watts in games:roll:

Now we know why his old 7900 XT would crash.
If it was ever in their ownership to begin with, either prove it or suck up the loss in looking smart.

yepp thats not gonna work . an overclocked 7900xt also pushed it to shut off. 360 watts gpu.

but anything up to 300 watt gpu worked like a charme even a overclocked 3080 with 370Watts strangely didnt shutt off. but the spikes are differnet from gpu gen to gep gen or i was just lucky on that case. but it was surely pushing its limit. :D

buit some morons in here wanted me to get a 850 watt psu just because of a 4070 ti then i learned dunning kruger is a motto in here. was fun nontheless to see it
So you admit it was the PSU?

Then you can go here and tell everyone else you are sorry for misleading them.

watch out you dont get a driver timeout lmao

replicate this 4k dlss balanced 150 watts the 7900 will be double that . garbage gen from amd. rdna 2 was much much better esepcially with MPT.

I mean it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that running a 7900 XT off a 550W PSU is a bad idea lol, That barely leaves any headroom for other components.

yea noboy said that. 650 minimum if you want to live headache free with that one. but an 4090 undervolted works easily with 550 watt psu.

Said by someone who never owned either the 7900 XT or 4090.
