That’s why I said “even” in certain cases. Big players like Asus, Acer, AOC, LG, Samsung and so on of course just get the chips and build their own scalers. Medium ones vary to my knowledge, but I have seen the exact same board used in Gigabyte and… I believe it was CM displays? Been a while. And I am fairly sure that smaller companies that basically straight up buy everything from the OEMs, like some of the models reviewed on TPU from KTC or Innocn. Probably the same with those China-only manufacturers I mentioned above, obviously can’t verify that.

You're thinking backwards here. It's not the companies you buy products from that uses the same PCB, but rather the companies they turn to who make the products for them, i.e. the ODM or OEM, as in many cases, brands that you and I are familiar with, uses someone else to make products for them. It's obviously not sourcing something off the shelf, as the housing is custom and the brands tweak the software and features, but due to one company maybe making products for 3-4 different brands, there might be some shared components, but the boards will still run different firmwares at a bare minimum.

Loads of people do. I did until I moved back to Sweden and my friend does, as he found the height adjustable stand more suitable for his needs than a monitor arm.
In fact, this is my first monitor arm ever, although it's pretty pants and I will get a better one at some point, but it does the job.

I am aware. We’re essentially discussing semantics at this point. Same thing with most things - like the fact that a ton of modern wireless gaming mice use the same handful of switches (increasingly Huano pink dots, funnily enough), Pixart sensor and Nordic MCU, but how it’s implemented in firmware is what matters, thus we have the range from excellent to truly bafflingly poor in terms of polling performance, CPI deviation and click latency.

Uh, most people? What, you think everyone is running monitor arms or wall mounts and the stand immediately goes into the trash? That’s silly. And glossy is actually, in perfect conditions, the best for picture quality, it’s just that those conditions are rare in consumer homes, so the vaaaaaast majority of monitors run different anti-glare coatings. But this is an option for those who would like one, so no issue here.
Hell, you want true pants you’d need to see older IPS matte HardAG coats. That shit was so crunchy it very obviously hurt picture quality. Glad we are done with those dark times mostly.

I have always used a arm, to save space on my desk, just figured most do as apart from usually Dell, most stock stands are crappy.

Nah, outside of the very budget space with stands that only have tilt it’s not that bad. If the stand has good range for height adjustment, tilt and doesn’t take an obscene amount of desk space it will suffice for most purposes and for most people. For a single screen anyway, if you are using several and in configurations like one above the other then yeah - a monitor arm will be a better solution.

Well, best stands I have experienced were on NEC and EIZO professional models. Those, uh, those don’t cost 500 though. Or even a grand like the one in the news article. Those are on a different level quality-wise. Still a bit mad that EIZO abandoned the gaming market with their Foris line years ago, they were excellent.

1 & 2: The stand and the base are the positives for me. In fact, the stand appears to have a Cell-Phone cutout, which I deem as a plus as well. Do you actually like the spindly non-functional stands of the older Asus Monitors? I absolutely hate them, personally and I am more than happy to welcome the new-old base back.
3: Not really an issue? How many monitors have USB C ports? How many people actually use the USB ports on their monitors in the first place?

5. It doesn't say the price anywhere. I'd imagine it'd be the same $900 that the Non-glossy comes in. It's still a bit overpriced, but not sure where you're getting the over $1k bit from?

Now onto the monitor itself. I'm personally done with 27" 1440p, and have been for a few years. Currently using the Original Samsung G9 49". As someone that doesn't play any games competitively, and with mid-range GPU's being fairly capable of 4k at 60+ FPS now, when I upgrade my GPU(currently 6800XT) within the next generation or two, I'll be looking for 34"-38" Ultrawide ~4k OLED's. 1440p is quickly turning into low-mid range GPU territory unless games start forcing raytracing/pathtracing, which isn't likely.

Was halfway interested until DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 . Then the $900 just made this an instant no buy compared to other choices.

This is launching at a lower price then our original AQDM. MSRP is $750 with a launch prompt price of $699.

I would unironically like to see a 1440p option in 24 inches. That would be an interesting alternative to 4K in terms of pure clarity at usual desktop viewing distance without the massive performance hit. Probably won’t happen though. The demand just isn’t there and high refresh models with such specs are already exceedingly rare. Like, to my knowledge there’s three - the old TN Dell one, a current IPS from AOC and some unpronounceable 240hz panel monitor from some Chinese company that isn’t available outside of China.

We have aspect ratio control options on monitors like our PG32UCDM - You can simulate 24.5 at 1440P resolution. Check out Badseed Tech's review where he dives further into the functionality and trying out this resolution/refresh rate.

Well I can't entirely disagree. Its not uncommon for mid-range monitor stands to be unable to get perfectly level or centered on the stand. My Gigabyte UW is like that. Its adjustable, but center ain't center exactly, its very minor but its there. So yeah its clearly el cheapo junk. I might do an arm for my next monitor.

Agree on this, Asus used to have good stands and seem to have gone back to doing good stands now.

It's not for just data though, it's really handy when you have a modern notebook you want to connect to do some work, as it's one cable and it enables you to use your desktop keyboard/mouse if you connect them via the monitor. Better displays also do USB PD, so you can charge your notebook this way.

Shame that they ditched HDM 2.1 compatibility, hopefully it supports VRR for PS5 use.

It's not 4K, so it should be fine, but as I wrote, it's limited to 144 Hz.

This kind of prooves my point. Left is a LG stand from a 32" 1080 165hz, and right is the one off my Dell 34" UW, which is height and tilt adjustable. The LG stand is crappy.

You do realise it's 1440p? Why use clearly overspecced inputs if the display is not gonna utilize their bandwidth? And, as people already mentioned - the MSRP is 700.

A bit too early for that, ~300$ is still the ballpark of 240hz+ IPS edge lit screens. Add to that the fact that this isn't a market that's evolving really fast, or is selling with the same volume as TVs. Miniled isn't even a commodity yet

I don't know when you bought that LG screen, but mine is height, tilt and rotation adjustable. 27GL850 released in 2020... for 499$

I dunno why people still care/complain about desk stands if you can get better ergonomics with VESA monitor arm and pretty much every monitor supports the VESA standard. Even if the stand is like some uber 1337 design there are always VESA mounting points underneath.
