Love it. Need to redo the bios mod it's only hitting like 3.4 all core, I've had it to 3.8. I only use it for things that need a lot of cores, but typing on it right now.
Also seems to run archlinux real nice!

Yeah my xeon tops out at 3.9 which isn't too bad...

I'm so torn on my bday gift between a rugged latitude or xeon precision laptop hmmmmm

Always quirks, but always fixable. Currently rock solid. I'll sold on Arch from now on.....

I've been using arch for almost 10 years now as my main OS. As you can see in my screenshot above, I often have uptimes of 1~3 months before I reboot for that eventual kernel upgrade.
You gotta know your system and keep up with Arch's news for any breaking change (one or two at most per year), but apart from that it's mostly a smooth sail.

Well, found an interesting Arch distro. Does have a gui installer, but allows for pretty much any DE you want. Also supports pretty much any filesystem.

EndeavourOS on my NUC7, with KDE Plasma 6.2, scaled to 150% because I am using this on a small TV I am sitting 1.6m away from (which is more visible on the second screenshot).

This gentoo installation is from 2006. After gnome 2.0 I went after a while to i3. Webpage i3wm.org

This is how the desktop looks like. There are no icons, no set background. I do not need that.

I do not recompile libreoffice these days anymore. Every new package breaks it basically. That's why portage complains in the left window.
Left shows a terminal with portage, the package manager. I just installed neofetch, which i executed on the top right. Right bottom I use caja.
The keybindings for i3 are modified by myself or self written. What's not in /home/roman/.i3/config does not exists or work. Which is kinda nice as I dislike too much bloated features.
The windows can be adjusted by size and divided. First i divided in half to left and right. Than I divided the right window vertically with caja.
I stick to caja file manager as it reminds me of nautilus which I used for a very long time.
I do not care for a long term to parameterise the i3status bottom panel. I just need the clock, network and the virtual desktops on the left.

This is for the posters above me: I never understood why people use SWAP. I used it 1996 with 128MiB of RAM. I removed SWAP for years. My previous machine had 20GiB of RAM. Many folders are in tmpfs here for a very long time, even with 20GiB or 16GiB of RAM.

I enabled a pagefile-style swap on that machine to be able to hibernate it (at least, that was the rationale ~a week ago).

Because I sometimes run our of RAM and need to rely on swap to not have my stuff being killed by the OOM. It's also nice to have background stuff not currently in used shoved there so that other current applications can make full use of the RAM available.
If you don't use that much ram, then indeed there's no need for swap.

Well maybe it's just Autumn messing with me, but my arch install kind of messed up... but probably recoverable, I'm just too lazy right now... I do too much crap to my installs heh!
So decided for a quick fix some more Manjaro. Installed quickly, switched to unstable branch, switched to newest 6.11 kernel, and basically back in business in a fraction of the time.
It actually boots and reboots almost instantly compared to arch and earlier version of manjaro... much faster. It is on a slow nvme drive though... so who knows. Fall version of Manjaro!
Also, check out cpu-x for linux. Very cool.
