I went back to Vista 64.

Wha's happening, since i updated my B650E-E bios lastly (march) i got Win (11 only now) errors memory couldn't be read, also appeared a few times on SteamDeck after bios update !!

It's when i turn OFF pc, only, and only if a (USB) gamepad is connected during power down (or mouse receiver if i use my wireless mouse btw), and on Deck even if nothing is wired to any USB (the bios update says, now default USB set to xhci instead drd, that i tried to switch back but error poped up too, sometimes anyway, it's razrely on Deck, always on my desktop if pad or wireless USB's plugged!..

Keyboard mouse don't happen to have the error shown by Win, never (happyly)

Even if they do get it secured, the damage might already be done.

And thank god because the whole idea is utter trash anyways.

I've been running Manjaro on my vintage build for a little while now. It does a pretty good job with Proton gaming. Better than Ubuntu in my experience.

Yuuuup. And it was the basis for the *shudders* XP 64. And technically the basis for what became Vista. And that, in turn, is what all the later Windows versions are sprung from, including the 24H2.

Heh never thought about it like that...

I actually kinda liked the Windows 3.1 GUI, if we are getting nostalgic. It was old school for sure but encouraged you to organize your shit.

Tried the full Outlook but that does not work with my YubiKey although the free Outlook does... quite the mess.

This is how Windows 11 should've been from the beginning. The only preinstalled crapware is Edge, and it doesn't require a Microsoft account to install.

I might actually use this.

I got a question for you.... (or anyone else here with W11 LTSC)

If I have W11 home installed can i just upgrade my copy of windows by activating an LTSC key or would I require a full re-install?

Tried googling the question but i dont have an answer.

Ok folks, after having been motivated to do some testing, I can confirm the following two facts about the Windows 11 LTSC IOT Eval ISO:
The oldest system(Intel) you can use is first gen Core i(Core2 is too old) and it will install to older systems previously not natively supported by normal versions of Windows 11.

I have no idea about AMD based systems as the oldest AMD system I have is AM4(1600X) and it seems to work fine with it. No idea about AM3 or older..

Keep in mind this is a beta evaluation ISO, who knows what the future might hold.

So not a huge loss but the gain is that 11 LTSC IOT seems to be useful. We'll see if microsoft makes it difficult to install & use for personal systems.

If it's about POPCNT support, you need Bulldozer at least.

It seems the instruction existed in older AMD processors (going back to 2007's Opterons even), but for whatever reason Windows 11 doesn't recognize those (or maybe lack of support for some other instruction is the real blocker)

It's actually not beta. 11 LTSC is considered released. Ironic considering uh, nothing else 24H2 is yet, lol. But yes it is an eval.

ThunderBird clunky and slow?!? I don't have that experience and never have. Of course, even if it were, it has no peer. It is alone in it's greatness. Outlook is lacking by comparison and really what else is there that we can actually trust?

Yup, that seems to be the consensus. @Onasi pointed this out in another thread commenting on a problem @Shrek was having, which is what motivated some testing. So it would seem microsoft did actually impose that limitation.

Personally, I think such a limitation is foul, wrong and ridiculous, but that is the kind of lowlife behaviour we've come to expect from microsoft..

We could debate that point, mostly because the current release is not considered an RTM by microsoft internally. There are some internal and functional changes that need to be made before the "RTM" ISO hits the release channels. However, from another point, you're not wrong. The feature set is more or less final and the experience we have now will carry forward.

Interesting side note, my Win 10 LTSC keys did not work to activate 11 LTSC. That might not be a serious thing, or it might. We will see when the final release comes around.
