I see Intel Optane NVMe 1TB drives for $72

any advantage over a standard NVMe? (price is comparable) and my motherboard supports it.

I see 118gb Optane for $72 on amazon shipped and sold by amazon, never seen 1tb optane under like 300 bucks... where you seeing this? doesn't sound legit to me.

Lots on ebay (1TB)

this makes more sense. that 118gb optane would be a better buy at $72 shipped and sold by Amazon, Optane doesn't work like normal storage so you don't need a 1tb anyway is my understanding, 32gb is a little too low though on the same hand.

Intel H10 drives came in '1TB' capacity, using Intel QLC and Optane on-drive; separate drives managed by UEFI/driver. They only work in supported platforms (with x2/x2 M.2 lane bifurcation).
IMO, they're a must-have curio if you have and maintain a compatible Intel build from that era. Otherwise, they're a waste of money.

The old or affordable fully-Optane drives are the
Optane M10 B/M-key PCIe3.0x2 lane units
Followed up by the Optane 905P
then the Optane P1600X
There are more models, and more-performant models, but those are the units you'll find on eBay/Newegg commonly.

The 905P and P1600X are 'beat' in sequential performance, by modern Gen3-4-5 NVME drives. However, the latest Gen5 NAND drives are still stomped in Random R/W by 'old and smol' Gen3 Optane drives.

Very much.

What Are the Differences among Types of Intel® Optane™ Memory?

The P1600X is much more modern/newer 'value oriented' professional use drive.
-marketed for Boot/OS and/or Cache drives. It has write-thru power protection on-stick, and is 100% 3DXPoint PCM Optane.

The Optane H10 and H20 were a hybrid drive; Intel's low-effort attempt at 'Optane in the consumer space'
Effectively, an x2-lane 1st gen Intel QLC NAND NVME drive, duct-taped together with a small Optane M10 x2 lane 3DXpoint PCM NVME drive.

I like intel optane... well actually, I didn't even really know what it was until it got cancelled, but sounds like its pretty much ssds without the consistency problems that basically all other models have. And that is the single thing I care most about when it comes to ssd speeds, consistency. I don't care anout the fastest speed if its only reached for a second.

It took me some time to understand the difference between
  • Intel Optane SSD P1600X 118GB
  • Intel Optane 1TB
the later only has 32GB cache.

It's the first I got as a boot drive.

I own a 905p 480GB and eventually I have ended up replacing it with an SN850X 1TB.
I honestly think that by now the convenience of high capacity M.2 SSDs beat Optane's superior but questionably useful upper hand in randoms performance.
Standard workflows remained entirely unimpacted, and have in fact even gained some performance in some parts. Theoretical reliability be damned.

I ended up getting the Intel Optane SSD P1600X 118GB from Amazon

How much space did the windows 11 installation with all updates take?

How much space left?

I seem to recall 76GB remaining and that is without disk cleanup (i.e. about 1/3rd used); there is a 58GB version, but I would not recommend it.

Not sure if I would use it as a boot drive, I feel it would be wasted in that role.

I have been using my intel DC P4600 with twitch leecher lately, and it is pretty fast, but if the video is big enough, when merging, it will slow down after the first 3-4 seconds to about 400MB/sec writes, curious if Optane would smack it down hard in same workload.

Found a ebay seller selling the U.2 version for not much more than I paid for my unit, but the PCIe version (which is the one I have) is still way more expensive than what I paid.
