Hello

I´m wondering if my cable is enough for this ? my tv only supports hdmi 2.0 as well ( all ports are 2.0)

Would i still get a benefit using a 2.1 cable on a 2.0 port ? thanks

Hi mate.

Ports don't matter - the cable does make the difference here. You need 2.1 cable to get that smooth 4k120hz output on your tv. You have not tell us if your tv is an oled or other compliant high refresh tv (60+hz) - because if it is not the cable won't make any difference.

That's a little bit tricky. You need to brute force 4k120hz output from your tv.
To do this you need proper cable...

Audioquest Dragon48 ULTRA will be able to do that. I have no time to look properly what are the specs of your tv but if you will be lucky you could get 8k resolution out of your tv with that cable!

Well, this thread has went places fast. To answer the actual question - yes, any decent HDMI 2.0 compliant cable is enough to drive 4K60Hz.

Ignore manny, brand new account and a bunch of troll posts.

If your TV and output device both support HDMI 2.0 and the TV supports 4k60, you'll get 4k60. Cables don't have a version, though you may get issues with the screen going black or things otherwise not quite working right if the cable is under-specced. This matters more at longer lengths. A 2.0-specced cable or newer should work fine.

I have got over 20 years of experience in home theatre business. Matpc asked about 2.0 port...if 2.1 cable will improve the bandwitch - the simple answer is...YES. 2.1 high end cable can improve refreshness and that Dragon48 supports eARC!

No. No, it will not. The bandwidth is not determined by the cable, it’s determined by the interface of the devices on both sides of the cable. If the TV port is 2.0, then the peak bandwidth will be limited to what said 2.0 port can achieve. Sure, the 2.1 cable will work, it’s backwards compatible. But it will not provide any more bandwidth. This is digital cables 101. Same as with USB - yes, a USB 4 cable will work in a USB 2.0 port, but it will absolutely not achieve higher speeds than what Full-Speed port allows.

Judging by your posts so far, no you haven't. What you are saying is complete nonsense.
The cable is a carrier of signals sent from one port to the other port. You can not magically improve the signal on the way. Even if you could (using pixie dust maybe?), this receiving device can not process anything above HDMI 2.0 and 4K60 since that is the limitation of the actual display hardware.

To give another answer to OP: Any cable will do as long as it manages to transfer all the bits from A to B. For the best result you should get a certified HDMI 2.0 cable, or a 2.1 cable if the price is similar. You just need a cable that meet or surpass the required spec. There are uncertified or lower spec cables that sometimes work just fine. But that is more of a gamble.

thanks everybody for the input guys

it is because i have a 2.0 cable passed through a wall and it would be tough to remove it just for 2.1 ( since it doesn´t make a difference in my case/tv)

thanks

Manny sounds like those HT/audiophile nut who believe digital cables and power conditioner would make a difference, not just any cable but those Monsters cable, or better yet Audioquest :D next he will suggest ERS paper to put on your graphics card

No, as long as your current cable and the output device are up to spec.

If you think that a HDMI 2.0 device can achieve higher than 2.0 bandwidth with a better cable, then you may as well throw your 20 years of experience out of the window. No offense, just getting facts right.
