Hey guys!

As the title suggests, I have a weird issue running TTW on my system. I checked a few Youtube videos about the performance in this game with my GPU and the difference is - 40-50% or even higher.
I was able to figure out that the "foliage" setting is killing my performance. If I have the foliage set to low (almost no grass), the game runs a stable 144 FPS with 100 W to spare on the GPU.
Going to medium the GPU is almost at 100% load at 144 FPS locked (mind you that my 6800 XT is heavely OC'ed and can pull over 300 W)
High pushes the FPS down to 85, while going to Ultra the FPS goes down to a measly 60 FPS.

I'm attaching the images below(in-game resolution 2560x1080, all settings maxed)
Foliage set to "low"

Foliage set to "medium"
TTWmedium.jpgTTWmediumGraph.jpg
Foliage set to "high"
TTWhigh.jpgTTWhighGraph.jpg
Foliage set to "ultra"
TTWultra.jpgTTWultraGraph.jpg
I have absolutely no problem with playing this game with "low" foliage, it just seems very weird that this is happening.
Have they maybe changed something in an update, that came out late?
Does anyone else have this issue? I wasn't able to find anything on here, Google or the Steam forums.

Edit: I'm using the latest 24.6.1 drivers, the game version is latest Steam release (just got it on sale for 20€ with all DLCs)

Thanks! :toast:

I don't know the game but why is your CPU running @ 1.8~2.5 Ghz...

I think it's actually a bug in AMD overlay, Task Manager usually says 4.0 when idle. All-core boost is 4.6 GHz when at 100% load.

But it isn't the problem, GPU gets pegged at 100% and I can see it chugging on power so it's not the CPU.

I have around 160+ hours played in the original game but I can't say if I remember how it used to be.
Started up the game now with the Redux mod since I was planning to play that but then I never did. 'shouldn't affect performance tho'
But ye it also happens on my 3060 Ti so I guess its just how the game/that setting is.
Same resolution as yours, Ultra with medium Volumetric fog cause thats yet another dumb setting doing nothing but killing the performance.
Low Foliage:

Ultra:

I don't have TTW, but I do have Borderlands 3 which I assume is basically the same engine. Just fast traveled to someplace with grass and trees and the difference in performance between low and ultra foliage is like 6-7 fps on my 6800xt.

It is the same engine but in Tiny Tina theres a lot more grass/foliage due to the fantasy setting of the game.

In BL 3 Low and Ultra Foliage difference is ~7% according to Hardware Unboxed's optimized settings:

Tho in both games the performance can vary a lot, depending on the place and what you are doing so eh I wouldn't care too much about this specific setting.

Yeah it's a massive hit in that area:

Went to the same spot (fast travel at new game start) and these are my FPS# (2560x1440 - 4080 - 556.12 driver)

Ultra/High/Med/Low Foliage (everything else ultra)
110 121 154 165 @925mv (~200w)
129 142 179 194 @975mv (~250w)

Most of the settings were on Ultra/High and Foliage Low, from how I left them after a little time testing... probably more than I actually played :(

Loved Assault on Dragon Keep but never really got into TTWL.

EDIT: Restarted in DX11 and no notable difference in framerate.

Borderlands 3 works fine, the grass doesn't really matter but in TTW in destroys performance.

The performance hit still seems to be way lower on Nvidia cards. I can go over 200 fps with Low foliage on this spot, but on Ultra I get like... 65 fps. So extrapolating from these numbers, you lose about 40% of your FPS while I lose 70%... That's just WILD :D

Oh well, will just keep playing with the foliage on low, it doesn't really make or break the game, it's still an awesome title!

I'd also like to add that Daniel Owen was testing this game on release with a 6800 XT and he was getting over 144 fps everywhere with everything maxed out so it seems they've done something to the grass in a later update

Thank you all!
If someone could chip in with an AMD card, that'd be great!

Sorry got here from the main page sidebar, didn't notice it was the AMD area until just now. But yeah, first thing I noticed when I fired up the game was that I had left foliage on low :D
