Weighing 55 g, the ambidextrous AX5 Pro Max comes with a magnesium alloy shell. Equipped with PixArt's PAW3395 sensor, the AX5 Pro Max is capable of both Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz, achieving up to 130 hours of battery life, along with 8000 Hz wired and wireless polling.

Seems like this further obsoletes the GPX2 if you’re okay with slightly smaller size. I am surprised it’s not sub-50 grams though, considering that it’s this heavily holey.

I got a question for everyone - if You could choose between a fully closed mouse body, but weighting 5g more, or this swiss cheese of a device, which one would You pick?

I would pick HyperX Pulsefire 2. It's fully closed and weighs 55 grams with additional parts.

Slap some grip tape on it, problem solved.

I personally use fingertip, so as long as the points on the sides where I hold the mouse are present and not holed I don’t really care and less weight is preferred. I am not touching the back anyway.

Solid body, hands down. There's just something about a swiss-cheese rodent that makes me uncomfortable. It's probably because even with regular cleaning, I can see the inside of the mouse getting filthy, and the holes themselves getting all gunked up.

I palm grip, too. So there's that.

I use a Razer Cobra Pro myself. I got small hands and I'm able to palm it comfortably.

This is a common a misconception or well at least not true for everyone kind of thing.
I've bought a mouse with such holes in 2022 january so like 2 and half years ago and I'm yet to take apart the mouse to clean it out and this is how it looks like right now:

What you can see inside is basically simply dust build up 'we also had some renovation work done recently and I did not cover the mouse' but no gunk anywhere and to be honest I've had nastier looking full cover/solid mouses in the past that just kept collecting all kind of crap for whatever reason.
That being said, I am a fairly clean person and I don't eat greasy food at my PC and I try to keep my hands clean all the time and the same goes for my room in general.

I will take apart the mouse soon tho since I want to clean the dust out, I do the same to my keyboard every now and then.:)

Edit:
Took me ~15 mins, good as new and this much of a maintance I do to every mouse anyway. 'I do clean the outside of the mouse more often ofc'

Edit 2:
Now that I think about it I think my full cover/solid mouses were nastier cause my hands used to sweat easier on those but with the hole mouse it doesn't happen at all so ye I will probably never go back to those.

That's good that the mouse looks clean, but it's just something (okay, it's my OCD) that creeps me out/makes me uncomfortable. To each their own. :)

Fully closed.

I have a mouse with holes and I wouldn't buy one again. The biggest issue is the holes on the sides and I don't think you can resolve it by adding side grip. All the pressure will be on a few small points instead of being distributed on a larger area of your fingers.
I don't think I'd like holes in the buttons either.
No problem with the bottom and top holes where the palm might touch the mouse.

Considering that are more and more mice without cons, the next big step IMO is custom shells.
