The initial one you tried is the correct one - ASUS display driver version 56.55 for Win2K and XP.

What do you see in the Device Manager? Does it only show problems or default drivers for display device? Do you have chipset drivers all sorted out?
You should be able to point at the drivers directly from the device settings and avoid ASUS installer which may or may not work.

Besides, that is a Geforce 2 MX. Nvidia does have legacy drivers available from their site and you do not have to rely on AIB drivers which always were a crapshoot.
Product Type: Legacy
Product Series: Geforce 2 MX Series
Product : Geforce2 MX/MX 400
Operating System: Windows 2000
Search.

The latest available drivers seem to be ForceWare Release 90, 93.71 from 2006.11.2. A lot newer than the ones on ASUS' page.
No idea if the direct link works: https://www.nvidia.com/content/Driv...k_international_whql.exe&lang=us&type=GeForce

Try those.

1) Unpack old installers for 3dmark with 7zip/Winrar (yes, .exe installer is an archive you can unpack).
Running "unpacked" or all files in one folder, should eliminate any temporary file issues. Make sure you have patches installed.
2) Have you installed chipset drivers before GPU ones ?
3) Try updating to DirectX 8 : LINK.

Windows 2000 has 4 service packs. By the time you're done installing all of them, could just install XPSP2 instead....

Usually it is better to get drivers or software from the original source rather than some more or less strange archives.
Old 3DMarks are available from their own site: https://benchmarks.ul.com/legacy-benchmarks

The prerequisites are usually included with the installer. As @agent_x007 suggested, DirectX versions might need some playing around with though. Probably best bet to install the DirectX 8 - perhaps the latest version you can find - and hope that it does properly work with older versions. It should but you never know. 3DMark99 is DX6 and 3DMark2000 is a DX7 benchmark.

I will give it go tomorrow, i have been working on it for long enough today. Thanks once again for your advice :)

Does anyone use Brave Browser? You can ask it any question
this is mine
*If you put more ram than its max will it still work?*
Based on the search results, the answer is nuanced. Here are the key points:
  • BIOS limitations: The system’s BIOS may not be able to recognize or utilize the excess RAM, leaving no free RAM available for use. (From “memory - What happens when more RAM is installed than the motherboard supports? - Super User”)
  • Motherboard-dependent: The behavior of the system when installing more RAM than supported depends on the motherboard. It may work up to the maximum supported size, and then crash or malfunction. (From “What Happens If You Put More RAM Than Supported? - Internet Access Guide”)
  • Cache-memory usage: Some operating systems, like Linux, can use excess RAM as cache-memory for the disk, potentially improving system performance. (From “memory - If one never uses more RAM than they have, will upgrading RAM still speed up the PC? - Super User”)
  • No guarantee: There is no guarantee that the system will function correctly or utilize the excess RAM, as it depends on various factors, including the BIOS, motherboard, and operating system.
In summary, installing more RAM than its maximum supported capacity may not necessarily render the system unusable, but its behavior and performance will depend on the specific hardware and software configurations.
Why i have put this on here is i bought two sticks of Rambus Ram and was try to get them to work in my Sony vio pcv rxi thought i tried them every which way ,but today i thought i would try them in slots 1 and 3 and lo and behold they work  .So it now has double the Ram in there.I also put the piece from brave because i was thinking of putting the two 256 sticks in there as well but after that i will leave it.The Sony s max ram is 512.Is it worth putting service pack 3 on there?
I will try and put ME on there at a later date.Have to get back to the other one trying to get 3DMARK working on there.

Based on your GPU-z screenshot, you are using Catalyst 4.3 driver (ie. Microsoft provided one).
Try installing different driver for your current ATI card - Radeon 9600 Pro (or force installing if that fails).

The issue of Direct3D being unavailable and greyed out can occur due to several reasons. Here are some possible causes and solutions:

  • Insufficient 3D hardware requirements: Your computer may not meet the minimum 3D hardware requirements to run the game or application. Check your system specifications to ensure they meet the requirements.
  • Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers: A missing, outdated, or incompatible version of graphics drivers might be the culprit. Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your video adapter.
    • Power user settings locked: Some profile settings, including “Enable Custom Direct3D support,” might be treated as power user settings and locked by default. This can prevent customization of Direct3D settings.
  • To resolve the issue, try the following:

Update your graphics drivers to the latest version.
Enable DirectDraw Acceleration if it is disabled.
Check your system settings to ensure “Enable Custom Direct3D support” is not locked and can be enabled.
Verify your system meets the minimum 3D hardware requirement
  • If the issue persists, you may need to consult the documentation for your specific game or application for further troubleshooting steps or compatibility requirements.

That's not helpful information for others to help you. What other board? Please be as specific as possible.

If I'd guessed, I would have thought the 'other board' was your RDRAM board. Thanks for clarifying.
That's a nice board to play with & it's nice you can get all the drivers for it from Gigabyte. Most important is being on the latest BIOS, followed by the 4in1 chipset drivers, then USB 2.0, LAN, & Audio drivers.
What O/S are you playing with on this system? Does it have the 9600 Pro installed?
