do you 1440p in games ?

I dont run after high fps. its a stupid fad. im very happy with 60fps on 1440p.

curious what games you play and what games it has a hard time with.

It's slower than a GTX 1650 or a RX 6400.

Not much point trying to run 1440p60 in 2024 with a RX590, I doubt there's many games you'll hit that in average, let alone min FPS.

Power hungry and old, not sure how good driver support is either at this point.

For some perspective, a RTX 3050 (by no means a new or good card) is faster in raster while using half the power.

Those GPUs are pretty much exclusively 1080p cards even then.

A RX 6600XT which is more than 2x faster than a RX 590 gets around 50 FPS in TPU 2024 1440p testing.

WTF are you smoking? it's about 30% faster than a 1650 and a 6400 according to TPU's own relative performance chart and the 3050 is 124% compared to 100% of the 590 though much closer in actual comparison videos on YT, granted it's old and power hungry compared to those cards though still receives driver updates and is perfectly fine in games knowing it's limitations and lowering settings, no one is going to run ultra settings on a RX 590, will it do a job, absolutely.

RX 590 GME = China-exclusive rerun and rebrand of the RX 580, which in turn is a re-release of the RX 480 = GTX 980 perrformance whenever the AMD drivers don't get in the way. No DirectX 12 Ultimate support. Discontinued drivers. High likelihood of it being a mining GPU. >90% of threads about AMD cards in the forum are people asking for help rescuing these miner cards that were sold to them in the brink of death (because they were suckers).

In other words, run Forrest, run!.

Yup.

Legacy drivers which means poorly tuned performance in new games if they even work.

Mining cards won't hold boost either and the memory would be shot.

So it's probably closer to 970 performance if it even works without artifacting.

Do NOT buy a RX 590 GME in 2024.

That's a hella lot of whatiffery

Current drivers.

Yes 580 was higherclocked 480, 590 was higher clocked/binned 580, why are you acting like people don't know this.

Sounds like OP has the card in which case he should be happy with what he has, no one is recommending anyone to buy one in 2024 as there are better options available though that wasn't what the OP asked. You would have him buying a crippled shit card like the 6400 over this in which case this would be the much better of the 2, now you're talking out of your ass some more talking about mining cards won't hold their boost clocks? WTF, stop reaching and pulling fake crap out of thin air

It's not. AMD is deceptive here. This driver is not the same as the one that's released for the current generation driver, it's based out of the 23.19 branch which is almost 2 years old by now.

This thing is e-waste. If OP has one, I sure hope they didn't get it recently. Even on a budget, mined Polaris cards are the last thing I'd look at.

New drivers for older GPUs are only for bugs/security patches. Hence "legacy", it's in the name.

It's an eight year old architecture. AMD doesn't bother.
Doesn't make the rest of your post FUD and made up on the spot BS are you going to fix your post about it being slower than a 1650 or 6400 when in fact it is faster than a 6500 xt, or saying it won't boost due to it being a mining card, do you know it's history? no one is saying it is going to run the latest AAA titles though in fact it will likely run a lot on reduced/low settings as is the case with other older gen slower cards that a lot of people still use, it's only upto 24% slower than a 3050....

NVIDIA support their eight year old cards.

No different to AMD still supporting RX 5xx cards, that says no where you are getting all the latest improvements and game support on an old card like a 1070, just that they are supported as are the 580/90 with July 24 AMD drivers

Quite different, I'm afraid. On NVIDIA, the main driver supports Maxwell and Pascal cards. They're still actively getting maintenance, bug fixes and software profiles. It's validated to work on Win11 24H2, too. AMD's driver is an older driver with minor bug fixes (hey at least there's that - although bugs I reported years ago seem to still be around) rebranded as a newer one. Underneath, it's completely different to what's powering RDNA cards. There's no use trying to justify or defend AMD here, this is one of the areas where their products are behind the competition.

Anyway, I have a GTX 1070 Ti... it's definitely seen better days. Much better days. It's well supported but place it next to any half-modern card and the limitations of GTX 10 series GPUs become immediately apparent. Imagine that but with poor software support... nasty.

Entirely different.

1070 is not on legacy drivers, it's on the same branch as the 40 series cards.

I suggest you look up the term.

I mean, I understand where you're coming from, with a practical outlook, having newer drivers is definitely not gonna make it perform better than it did at this point in time. And it's not like things won't run, with the hardware capabilities being that far behind. The saving grace of having software support for Pascal cards is that they are much faster and support more features and techniques. RX 590 (Polaris 30, the 12 nm one) should perform roughly equivalent to the 1060-6GB, anything else is faster on the green camp and that extra power warrants this software maintenance, IMO. It's foolish to think NV won't be axing 900 and 10 series support soon, anyway. My guess is within a branch or two, now that they're 10 and 8 respectively

Yeah I suspect 10 series cards will be dropped when 50 series releases. Maybe 16 series too, ditch all the non RTX hardware.

For those who want to believe legacy driver support is the same as current branch, I suggest you try playing a newly released game that has had game ready drivers released, and see if you get the performance/experience you expect.

I think you should all have a group hug...

My RX470 4gb ran X-Defiant at about 160 fps 1080p. Low. You can still get by with that card OP, just not really 1440p.

anyone using the rx 590 gme in their system?

curious what games you play and what games it has a hard time with

Did you notice how almost nobody had any regard for the post, or offered anything useful?
Did you pick up on the "your card sux!" vibe?
"ewww! how could anyone game on such old hardware?"
"LOLZ my old card is better than your current card"
Welcome to techpowerup!

I've got an RX580 around here still. I used run it at 1080. For me 1440 is a bit much.
If you're ok with 60FPS then I think it'll run well optimized games like MW. I think I was getting 80-90 at 1080 with FSR.
I think the 580 plays Rocket League at 144FPS:)
