FYI 4070 Ti Super has 285W TDP by default. You can limit it to 260W. Or maybe it's close enough.
Yeah, I figure that I can trade in some of the performance excess from my metric to meet TDP. Fingers crossed I can reach 180ish W on an undervolt.

I agree. 25% better looks good in benchmarks, but you can hardly feel it in real life. Totally not worth spending money on.

But there're people who just find frequent upgrades fun. I once talked exactly about that with the guy who likes doing whatever upgrades often, then benchmarking etc. I'm totally opposite and upgrade when performance stops meeting my likings.

Then I'm pleased to inform you that a 4070 Ti Super goes down to 200W with no undervolt and just nvidia-smi configuration just fine, without losing much gaming performance. 180W is also doable for compute, though I did not benchmark that for games. Anything lower and performance begins to crumble.

Tell me about it, 5 series is old news, FX 5900 128M gang represent!
Nah, FX 5200's where the game's at. :p

But there're people who just find frequent upgrades fun.
I'm one of those people. Sometimes I even sidegrade, or downgrade just for the fun of it. I still hold my opinion that it doesn't make monetary sense, and people only wanting performance shouldn't follow my example.

Depends on the price, if 4070TiS drops it's price at least 10% then I buy that for Christmas and skip 5 series, if not I wait for 5070, just hope it wont be crap like the regular 4070.

As i all ready have a rtx 4060 and rtx 4090. I will skip 5000 series.

Besides i have no good reason for an upgrade. I have sufficient vram and 4090 still has plenty power for 1440P i game at.

Also it will be a significant economic hit also. Because not only i will need to pay the price of what rtx 5080/5090 will cost. But also need a complete upgrade of cpu, mobo and memory as i don't think 5950X can properly feed data to rtx 5090. So i will with rtx 5000 properly get a cpu bottleneck.

So 4000 series cards will stay with me for at least 2 more years. Then i might go for rtx 6000 and a complete upgrade from zen 3 to zen 6 or 7 or maybe intel if there cpu's dosent don't malfunction as there 13/14 gen do lately.

Not sure yet, its 5050, I was leaning 4060, but only 8GiGs mmh ehh. Maybe skip the 5 series for 6040. Bcause I think 4090 is unfair, even 4070 a bit unfair only if everyone has one.....

I usually like to skip one generation, especially on the CPU side - the exception being the 2080ti to 3080 due to HDMI 2 and the OLED TV.

Play it by ear - anything less than 50% uplift and if you're not struggling to run anything, then maybe not worth.

I'll be skipping it. The 3080 plays everything I want to play just fine since I have no interest in 4K. More and more, anything AAA coming down the pipe I have no interest in, so I doubt I'll have any issues putting off an upgrade for another 3 years.

Having a 3080 and without a doubt. Very much likely I will switch back to AMD when I upgrade from this.

I'll be skipping it. The 3080 plays everything I want to play just fine since I have no interest in 4K. More and more, anything AAA coming down the pipe I have no interest in, so I doubt I'll have any issues putting off an upgrade for another 3 years.
My watercooled 3080 runs even new games fine at 4K with reasonable settings or with DLSS.

I'm already on the 5 series....5600XT. 6GB VRAM, FTW. :D
I have a GeForce FX 5600 XT (128MB, 64-bit) on my collection.

Will hold on to the 3070 i use now, 4000 series value is a bad joke and i dont think 5000 series will be any better. For me the only game that was below 60 fps is Starfield on low (main city). Got lots of older games that i still play so no need to upgrade for the moment.

It all depends on the VRAM configurations.

I can play all the games I like on an APU: 10+ years old, indy and online low requirements ones like TF2.

But if low powered SKUs with high VRAM are available I will probably buy 4 to 8 of these for playing with larger LLMs.

Card speed is irrelevant if the datasets and models don’t fit.

If VRAM is stingy, my money goes to Apple for a Mac Studio with M4 Ultra and 512GB unified memory.

The ball is in Nvidia’s court. Take my money or another company will get it.

AMDs software i do monitor. If they are good enough for LLM use on Linux I might consider them.
But Apple solution will be way more polished and supported, so AMD have to either improve their stack to rock solid level or be significantly cheaper (2x or more) to compensate for the time waste and frustrations.

I got my 3080Ti back in 2022. Waiting for the Blackwell's to come out, so no i'm not skipping. Was thinking maybe the 5070, but the 5080 is probably the best overall for another couple of years.

It all depends on the VRAM configurations.
Nvidia should stop that cheaping out with VRAM. I feel funny that I upgraded from a RX 6700 XT 12GB to a RTX 3080 10GB. Noticeably faster card but even easier to hit the VRAM limit.

Depends on if 4K 120+Hz OLED comes down in price, and if the 5xxx can drive 120+fps in 4k across all titles.

Probably skipping it.

FYI 4070 Ti Super has 285W TDP by default. You can limit it to 260W. Or maybe it's close enough.
I'm only pulling ~160 watts after undervolting it to 0.93 V (Observed while playing Helldivers 2).
Yeah, I figure that I can trade in some of the performance excess from my metric to meet TDP. Fingers crossed I can reach 180ish W on an undervolt.
Easily. I also upgraded from 3060 12GB. The 4070 Ti super uses about the same wattage and its twice as fast. Its a great card. Gaming temperatures are usually in the 70s too.
