To add to it, this was my first AMD-based system in… hell, I don’t even know and yet it’s been absolutely amazing. And with all of the Intel chip degradation issues, I feel like I dodged an artillery shell barrage by going with AMD.

I had a headache with the P4, Skt A for me, then AM3 no problems and it's at 5.0.

Yea it's a good idea to skip Intel this gen, especially when they're denying claims as its being reported.

Intel will recover I think. Major problems with the management engine release. Have a bunch of stability issues with my z790 board.

Turns out, my cpu is fine when installed on my B660-G using bios 2604 (first release for 14th gen) and ME FW Version 16.1.25.2091 PCH stepping B1. Runs like new again.

Z790 board with most recent ME FW 2413.5.67.0 is totally Fk'd and no chance of revival because you can't roll back the firmware. Thus the Operating system I was using is also fubar having the latest ME software installed, also, cannot roll back.

Just glad to have had an old board with old bios installed. I don't have to RMA my processor thankfully.

For now, I agree to steer clear until there's an official resolve. It's a bummer.

If you think about it, AMD did as well and they are a much smaller corp by operating funds.

For many Core was Great up until 10nm, it might be time Intel changes to something else, probably at a point of diminishing returns.

Still great processors in my opinion. Both sides. And both sides have quirks and issues.

It's the publics job (large groups of people that don't understand it) to blow it up into more than it needs to be and with absolutely no testing. It's unstable CPU is toast. It's just not the case.

I'm lucky to have the hardware for this kind of testing. Processor fine.

Well I'm glad you are of the non broke category, it sucks when toys get broken.

The public did the same to AMD with the FX line and some youtubers are proving otherwise about it now that software is multicore aware~Smoother Gaming Experience inspite of shared resources, that GN tried downplaying it~Stevie is a jackass now.

Well he is a paid for reviewer whom opinion, as many before and after him, is swayed by the presence of money.

FX was fine, I had several FX processors. Many of which I ran well into the 7ghz+ area. One of the best platforms for extreme clocking. My FX 9590 maxed 5.7ghz on liquid. Was an outstanding cpu.

Not rich, but not broke. I earn my money and spend it. Always to put a little away for rain days.

Oh lol.

Nope, it's all good. 100% just fine. Benching on it now actually. Just can't OC on the B660.

In the other board, totally fubar. Really bad. Very not stable. Doesn't matter what settings you try. Intel base line and extreme don't make it better. Memory, SA voltage, cache, cpu multiplier.... nothing. Really bad stability. It'll boot windows, won't accomplish anything other than that. Games crash, benchmarks crash.

I need to apologize for off topic

@OP.

Coffee Lake was fast for it's day (2017) and is probably still a somewhat capable processor. It just needs to be run at its maximum you can squeeze from it. Mine on a custom loop with a de-lid was stable at 5.2ghz and plenty of memory frequency. Still many on DDR4, no big deal. But upgrade to ddr5 no matter which route you go.

Here's a couple of fun screen shots of my old 8700K and thanks for the support of some friends, Aleslammer should be named for sending me this gear.

Anyhow, here's some frequency gibs on LN2. Little eye candies are fun. I recommend people try more extreme cooling methods on their old gear after upgrades. DryIce is cheap. Like a buck a pound or close to that. Free if you know an ice cream guy.

when you will be upgrading to gtx 5080 write us then we will help you to choose proper cpu till then enjoy your current setup....if you will still be getting those stutters maybe hdmi 2.0 is failing.
I just got my 7800X3D and this weekend my 8700K will have gone to HTPC pastures too, it does game still, sure, but fast it is not;)

Buying CPU now doesn't make much sense and in OP's case especially. Just not counting 60 fps in Far Cry 6. It starts with 8700K and 2080Ti being well balanced pair for 1440p AAA gaming - if we talk focus on possibly pretty graphics, not lowering it to get more fps, they bottleneck each other with similar fps. 2080Ti is now 1440p/~60 fps/not always Ultra card and it will be hard to find a game where 8700K won't deliver such number. Adding new GPU will change things, but also waiting for it, probably at most half a year, will add to the market all upcoming CPUs and solve OP's mobo concerns. Few weeks from now land Ryzen 9000, few months later X3D and new Intels. I'm not into gossip, but new X3D is likely to end up fastest here (when X3D works). It will also make clear situation with new chipsets. Few months from launch should also positively affect prices of whatever chipset - no new stuff tax, maybe older ones getting cheaper. And lower likelihood of potential early adoption problems. Summing it all, it's just bad to make a move now.
