Yeah i know that is an old game i posted, it's called House Party, there's also a nude mod pack available for it. Funny game in fact and have to fight with fist sometimes against another to win the girls heart. I'm not so young anymore, so old games make me think on the time i was young again. Space Quest series from Sierra on line is for me the game i have many memory's from. Delivered on old 5¼-inch floppy. Yes i'm old but still young in my heart. :lovetpu:

But i also play newer games like Resident Evil or DIABLO IV, because i did buy it long time ago on CD, DIABLO 1 and 2 i have on CD. What i find less fun is that you do not own games anymore... You have to be online to play. You now just get a license to play with it. Maybe i'm to old???

Diablo 3 playing now...

Sorry I asked.

I assume it is a modified ruleset with similar feel/gameplay?
Can't vouch for the CRPG, but if we're saying about tabletop it's pretty much that, yes.

Playing Fallout London. It crashed once after the train ride but none after that. I run low boost on my laptop so it won't overheat, gameplay wise it's pretty good. For 2-3 of hours I been playing, I haven't shot a single bullet only use melee weapon. Played pretty good on my RTX 3050 laptop. Story wise it keep me invested, dialogue is good, voice acting is good. It's a top notch mod.

Actually now it's time to get platinum trophies/all achievements from all current Life is Strange titles before the next one is released.

Platinum'd the first one on PS4 with one sitting last night. Before the Storm next...

I'm not so young anymore, so old games make me think on the time i was young again.
Same here, although, I get disappointed sometimes when I realise that some of my old classics don't look or play as good as I remembered. They're still fun, though. Revisiting them makes me question my hardware upgrades. Instead of spending endless money on my PC, I could just play old games for all eternity. :ohwell:

in many cases, they actually don't look as good today as you remember! And for a real reason!

The big difference was the shift from CRT to LCD, and the included shift from lower (and interlaced) resolutions to much high (often progressive), and wider, ones.

We see the "raw graphics output" today, but back then, we kind of weren't because CRTs did things to what we saw, at least on the console side where lower resolution, interlaced CRTs were the norm.

So this sort of impacts the sixth generation of consoles (PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Gamecube) and older, although you can sort of break it down further in my opinion.

The forth and fifth console generation (1990s) were the worst impacted by this. The reason this "middle era" is worse off is because the sixth generation (PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Gamecube) was often entirely 3D and often had "good enough" asset sizes for visuals to make "HD remasters" pretty effective. Going the other way to the third generation consoles (Nintendo) got out okay because the visuals were often pixelated looking to begin with, and/or otherwise just didn't look that bad being pixelated. The forth and fifth generations though? Yikes! A lot of 2D assets and pre-rendered backgrounds, often low resolutions. The result?

Here is an example I posted elsewhere. This is a game from the fifth console generation that uses a mix of 2D and 3D rendering, so this is about a worst case example of the type of game impacted by this. These examples will be almost entirely 2D, as that's where the bigger issue is.

The first pair of images is the "raw graphics output" scaled to 1920 x 1200 (but kept 4:3-ish). Truly, this isn't the "original" look because I'm playing via emulation and upscaling the 3D (so that looks higher definition), but ignore that and focus entirely on the 2D here, which is the majority of what this is.

That looks... bad, right?

But emulation, shaders, post processing, and filtering has come some ways! Here's that same scene, with a method in place not to upscale the 2D portions, and also to filter the whole image with a CRT-like shader.

Now that probably looks a little more how you might have remembered such games (albeit not with the higher resolution 3D).

So depending on what games you had in mind... this actually may be a case where the games did look better originally, and your memory isn't (entirely) fooling you.

Indeed! I found myself replaying older games more often than new games. The latest game I play was that Fallout London. I haven't bought new games for over a year now, when I mean new I mean by year. I buy quite number of older titles on GoG or steam.

That is why I buy this, this tiny LCD is as close as you can get to native res of older consoles, 3.5 inch with 640x480 res. It's a bit cramped for serious play, but for portability I can play it anywhere I ever wanted.

Platinum'd Life is Strange: Before the Storm on PS4. Next on my list to have the same treatment for the remasters, but that's after I've slept, spent the whole night with that one. Luckily after a playthrough, you unlock the collectible mode, where you can just pick a chapter with missing trophies/achievements.

I'm far from done as I'm going to 100% these on PC as well.

I'm tired of games made for 'modern audiences', so I'm back to playing games from my rather substantial library of games from EGS, Steam, GoG....now replaying my collection of Serious Sam games, now replaying SS3. Will tackle Crysis Remastered and Crysis Remastered 2 after this, or maybe OG Far Cry 'coz it's so much fun!

Agree wholeheartedly!!! I'd also pay good money for old games to be remastered, like OG Far Cry, Enclave, Giants Citizen Kabuto....these are still on my fav list, will play them when I'm done with previously mentioned games.

Benchmark Scores bench ? no time to lose with bench ! :)
About 11 hrs to finish Horizon Chase Turbo (PC)
Already beat it on PS4, but this time with every gold cup for every race in the Tour mode (didn't play the Endurance or Quest mode)
I love this game, the fast speed, smooth scrolling, good visual and of course awesome soudtrack, is like a good trip.
Wich also be a bad trip when this damn opponents block the road, cannot pass them, always ramming into theirs asses and loosing too much time.
I think you can't play it distracted, if you want results, it's 200% concentration mode !
Visuals are greats, lots of place to run (Iceland, Brazil, India ...), with sometimes nice effects (be careful, rain/snow + night make the track very hard to read)
Cars are unlicensed, but easilly recognizable. Some are better than other, so I've decided to make a race with a different car.
Race 1 with car 1, race 2 with car 2 etc ... and if I loose, keep the race and change the car.
The upgrade race is a welcome idea (a special race in every country gives you an upgrade you choose for all the cars)

HorizonChaseTurbo 02_08_2024 22_44_06.png

Iceland with the "Deja-Vu" car, of course a Toyota Sprinter Tueno. Love the scenery here !

HorizonChaseTurbo 02_08_2024 22_46_16.png

Is anyone remember Jaguar XJ-220 on Amiga (and Mega-CD too) ? Horizon Chase Turbo really capture the spirits of theses old games !

HorizonChaseTurbo 02_08_2024 22_48_40.png

Oh no, not again, these Oblivion planes are everywhere ! What ? Someone says it's Hawaii ... Not sur for my next vacations ! :D

Today I wanted to have another go with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat with Complete Mod, but ancient X-Ray engine craps out with 5900X CPU.
Game is broken as some NPC actions are not performing at all.
Have to enable "Legacy CPU mode" in Ryzen Master, reboot, and than 5900X becomes 5600 with 6c/12t and than is OK.
Same thing with World In Conflict from 2007. WIC won't even start the game on 5900X.

So I decided to uninstall it at went another go with complete Metro story (2033 Redux, Last Light Redux, Exodus EE) :)

I'm not even sure if Far Cry OG needs a remaster because it still looks damn goof today, but I digress.
With Forza Motorsport 8 or 23 or whatever it's called nowadays (shite would be appropriate), I dug into GRID which never fails to do what it does, so I became a hooligan.
GRID2, GRID Autosport, GRID 2019 and GRID Legends are the apex in arcade racing as far as I'm concerned. Forza Horizon is a different beast though.
Here I am burning rubber and being a hooligan!

And another Platinum trophy for a LiS title (the first one's remastered) in third night in a row. Let's go for Before the Storm remastered now.

And I'll be doing all this again on PC later.. I guess it's hella clear what my favourite game franchise is
