Intel should release a K version of i3 again like they did with 7350K/8350K/9350K.

thank you for review, Wizzard! kudos for including ryzen 3600.sitting confortable with ryzen 3600 @ 4.1 ghz 95% vs cpu monsters.got rtx 3060 12gb, 990 pro, 16 gb ram 3400 gskill for $500 and think I won't upgrade soon. perhaps it won't be fsr 3.1 mods (dll reasons), but I'll still upscale to 4k +ghosting fix for free and bang/buck. btw, deep condolences to Intel owners.

does it die in a few months period too ?

No. This is a 12th Gen CPU in 14th Gen clothing. No 12th Gen chips were ever affected by the microcode issue going on.

Is this cpu unaffected by Intel's recent fiasco with their high end CPUs?
According to the review its a 60W TDP, and Intel's latest info is 65W and above chips. So yes, although of course Intel might change their minds later, as they dont seem to be 100% sure.

Seen dr dro's reply now, its 12th gen, so all good anyway.

Positive, I maintain my opinion from the review thread, at $160 the 8500G is just highway robbery. AMD's done it all wrong, Phoenix APUs should have been released for - and alongside a spiritual successor to Socket AM1 platform
Why? Having a different platform would be not only unnecessary (AM5 mobos have video outs after all) but stupid. That would hust fragment the market to no real end.

Simple, really. Raphael CPUs have integrated graphics that are perfectly capable of handling basic/office-like workloads, and won't be hobbled if you decide to buy a dGPU. In other words, just buy a 7600...

I bought 4x16 Adata RAM (not a kit) & they work just fine with two different chips.
Why 4x16 instead of 2x32? 4x is stressing the memory controller more and limiting speeds. You're almost certainly running out of spec.

As it stands, even if no new processors are released for LGA 1700 in the future, you can still go to an 8+16 SKU, which is a massive upgrade from a 4+0 with a reduced amount of cache and slightly lower IPC compared to the initial configuration.
It's as if you're completely forgetting the issues Intel is having right now. Sure, you can plop an 8+16 in, but will that last, even assuming the mobo has a beefy enough VRM to support it?

A fix is coming. Warranties are being generously extended. Said "issues" are not a factor. VRMs that can support 180A are present even in the dirtiest Chinese counterfeit. they'll be fine.

You didn't actually answer anything. Why is there a need to separate the APUs to a different platform? You know, you can just leave stuff out of a mobo if your use case doesn't justify having it.

Have you read the 8500G review? Phoenix has silly limitations such as a x4 PCI Express lanes for the GPU that Raphael doesn't have.

Socket AM1 used to be very affordable, and suitable for home servers, NAS, etc - that's all it's good for with those limitations. A x4 slot is far more suitable for high performance storage than a GPU.

The x4 slot is a pretty silly limitation, but the actual practical implications probably aren't too relevant. In this review, the 8500G with an RTX 4090 manages the same performance as the i3 14100 with an RTX 4090. I don't think very many people are ever going to pair their 8500G with something as fast as or faster than a 4090.

Difference being, a 14100 is a rebadged version of a 2.5 year old low end processor, and the 8500G is a much more advanced Zen 4 design. Besides, you're not pairing a 4090 with either of these: and the x4 has clear implications in performance and usability while using reasonable GPUs for this class of processor (such as the RTX 4060 Ti)

Yes it is newer, and it's evident in the power consumption figures that AMD skewed more towards advancing energy efficiency for that particular part. Same performance at half the power.

Pretty bad, especially when compared to 8500G, which is superior in every way.
LMFAO, I bought this HYBRID (2 Zen4 + 4 Zen4c cores! *facepalm*) SH*T, and had to RMA! Can't run RAM over 5200 LOL! Freezes badly and sometimes shows SC score 2 (!!!) in latest cpu-z!!! DON'T RECOMMEND 8000G series NOW, I hoped it is good budget chip....

8500G has 2!!! ADVANCED zen 4 cores + 4 zen4c nonsense! Thank you, AMD, for going SH-Intel way!!!!:mad::D

Intel should release a K version of i3 again like they did with 7350K/8350K/9350K.
loved my 8350K which I changed with some mate to snail-slow i5-8400, single core is so adored in general use, I can feel diff below 4 GHz and above...

about 14100:
it's a lot more pricier than 12100 i3 but has just error margin diff in performance lmfao:rolleyes:

I just watched the video. It's more of a video on how 8GB sucks, and sucks more with slower PCI-E.

When not memory constrained (i.e. with the 16GB card), the video shows no difference between 3.0 x8 and 4.0 x8 in the games tested

Yes, but again, if you can afford a GPU that exceeds this specification, you aren't buying a 8500G. You'll go with at least the 7600...

I told you in the other thread ~ it's just a rebadged z1 extreme. They probably thought of releasing it as an experiment(?) or just full (binned) chips that aren't so good at low TDP, or the handhelds aren't really selling that well o_O

It works on the handheld form factor or a purported AM1 successor, I just don't think it belongs in the socket AM5 platform

Maybe, it's an interesting chips as a counter point to the Intel approach as well as the HX 370 albeit on desktops. Would love to see how bad inter core latency is on this one, although it's relatively expensive for what it offers right now.

The 7600 ($187) is priced in line with the 8600G ($182) atm, not the 8500G ($159)

If you are saying people with an 8500G are unlikely to upgrade, then that makes its PCI-E limitation even less relevant in practical terms.

$22 for a superior chip that isn't gimped, does this even need to be considered? If you're pinching $22 you shouldn't be building a PC TBH

I agree that the 8500G could be priced better, but we're deviating from the original point that was being argued.

I was saying the x4 PCI-E slot limitation isn't likely to be limitation of actual practical significance for most people who would buy that chip.

And the way I see it, it's arguably the limitation with the most practical significance and the worst long-term consequences. Buying this CPU is setting yourself up for a CPU replacement in case you ever feel like upgrading your PC. Office systems don't need 6 Zen 4 cores, even if 4 of those are of the "c" type. The high-speed RAM to make best use of this iGPU is also going to shift the total cost upwards, well beyond just getting a 7600 and run of the mill 6000 MT/s RAM. And it will still perform worse. It's a raw deal at that segment, even this 14100 which is not a great deal (considered it is a 12100 anyway and those can be had for 60-70 bucks) turns out to be a wiser purchase

Alder Lake was a January 2022 launch for desktop, so Alder Lake wasn't even on the radar when the rumours AMD wanted to drop support for the 300-series boards hit the news.
Realistically speaking, motherboard manufacturers offered unofficial Zen 3 support for the 300 series. Suddenly, MSI released a BIOS update with Zen 3 support for all of their 300 models, followed immediately by the other manufacturers. AMD protested, but without much conviction due to the anger of the fans.
AMD's mess with Zen 3 (nothing released below 5600X and $300 for over a year, no 300 series support) should be taken as a wake-up call for their future policy if Intel goes away.

The 14100 is an interesting processor. I notice that in the comments a strong point owned by Intel is omitted: the exceptional hardware acceleration support offered by igp.
