What's annoying as hell is how windows update tricks ppl into upgrading to 11 for free. This works on non-tech ppl. I found my daughters pc, mothers pc, and others all upped to 11 for free because ppl didn't know wtf they were clicking.
Can't blame them tho.

It's not like it's a new phenomenon, we all remember W10 spam.

It's basically free if you're already on a prior windows.
I actually was thinking about if not having that, then I guess it's pay time.

Who uses win10 with classic theme? Did the weather station also have K|NGP|N on their payroll or did they run out of 2GB RAM :shadedshu:

Compiler takes code as text and compiles to some byte code to be run by VM or the CPU doesn't it?

Sentence 1 has nothing to do with sentence 2.

Really. When copying as M$ did since MS-Dos they didn't have a glue about a rigorous GUI/API definition. This didn't end till today. One can see it easily within the different versions of the Gui and their changes.

And that is just wrong. :( OS/2 was a joint venture between IBM and Microsoft - which you could have easily verified in seconds if not so eager to pile on the Microsoft bashing.

As for copying - that has been going back and forth - as in both ways - between the various developers since the beginning of time. So to suggest MS is the only guilty party is just, once again, is just perpetuating the FUD and fearmongering and the nonsense this flawed, click-bait poll instigated.
Really? Guess why i used versions. At OS/2 2.0 MS didn't work at. The cooperation enden before. BTW. I already worked on OS/2 2.0 before it got onto the market at IBM to have it running on their sales departments. Later i mirrored the IBM OS/2 API onto Windows NT. I know a bit about both Os'ses in the depth. I guess, Commodore copied the Windows BSOD and named it Guru Meditation Message.

An other fact you seem to have forgotten:
CP/M was the original OS for Intel 8080 microprocessors. It was sold generally for around $400 a copy.

Seattle Computer Products cloned CP/M for the 8086 when the owners of CP/M dawdled with the release of CP/M86. Microsoft was approached by IBM for an OS for the IBM PC, bought the clone and renamed it MSDOS.

CP/M86 was offered for the IBM PC at the same price it had been sold as for the original Intel personal computers, around $400.

Bill Gates priced MSDOS for the IBM PC at $40.

The owners of CP/M, Digital Research didn’t cut prices to match quickly enough, and the market moved to the cheaper one.

Game over.
Link service

And no. I'm not bashing M$. I'm still impressed with how less one can make a hell of money.

So Windows NT (NTFS formatted) is the best. And it's not even listed!!

Can't say that I've ever had big issues with XP/7/10 tho I'm a very light/casual user and don't really tinker around with Windows settings in general. 'as long as its just works for my use case then its good enough'
Probably I would be alright with 11 too after getting used to it but for now 10 gets the job done so I doubt that I'm switching as long as its supported. :)

The few people that use Windows Server as their main desktop OS, and like it, will probably choose the closest desktop version. But there's one exception: Server 2022 is not closely related to either 10 or 11. It should actually be a separate choice on the poll.

What are you even talking about, why would it be W10? Why would it want to upgrade from W10 to W10?

Also, it doesn't look like W10 at all. I'm pretty sure that's Windows 7.

Why would a weather map need an aero theme anyway? You're suppose to be seeing a fullscreen radar, not the window borders.

So Windows NT (NTFS formatted) is the best. And it's not even listed!!
NT is an OS core, broadly speaking. Essentially, a kernel, in Linux terms, but not really, since it’s both the name of the kernel and of the overall family of OS built on it. And no, all consumer OS that MS produced up to and including ME were DOS-based. NT was used for enterprise systems creating a split, for a variety of reasons that are too tiresome to get into. The first consumer NT based one was XP, though with the state of ME many enthusiasts switched to 2000 around that time, even though it wasn’t technically a consumer OS. Since then, yes, all current versions of Windows share the same NT core - consumer, enterprise, server, embedded - doesn’t matter. So saying “Windows NT is best” is a bit like saying “I like the Core ones the best” when answering the question of “What is the historically best Intel CPU in your opinion?”.

tl:dr All modern versions of Windows are technically Windows NT, but the name itself hasn’t been used as an official designation for an OS since Windows NT 4.0.

Not for home users until XP, no. Their home OS's (9x and ME) were built on DOS.
2K was still on the professional/workstation/server side of things so not really considered a "consumer" OS.

I'm a simpleton... the least amount of issues ive encountered with hardware compatibility is Win 7. Also unlike previously, I admit i spent quite a bit of time diving into 7's settings and control panel options for a more personalised experience. 7-10-11 all seem good for me (not the most advanced user). The one that i absolutely detested was XP. The UI alone was a kick in the teeth.

May I ask in what way? If we’re talking coming BACK from 7 and newer - I could see that, but at the time XP was, franlky, just a prettied up version of 2000 GUI (to the point that you could even switch to it) and that GUI was basically perfect as-is.
This isn’t me bailing you in any way, I am genuinely curious since it’s such a rare complaint among enthusiasts.

I'd say overall Win10 really is the best—not so much in any particular aspect, but on the whole I consider it a podium in most assessments. If you were to ask me which one I would use if it was still getting active support, I'd say 7. I grew up with it and I think it's the best UX of Windows with 2000/XP following close behind. Windows 10's core and style with a proper Win7 desktop/UI would be so absolutely worth.

Windows 7 is good stuff. You can run quite a lot of platform generations with it. My Favorite of all time. But am familiar with Windows everything, we learned DOS back in little man school. Green Apple monochrome running some DOS flight simulator. You flew a stick over some dashes. That's all I can remember lol..

Yep it was just that "prettied up version" which didn't wash well with me. I prefer boring or slick looking simple designs without some of that loud/colourful personality which XP adopted. I ended up switching to 'classic' mode. The OS itself was great.

We are surprisingly very much alike here. The minor differences include,

Very much liked 3.11 for Workgroups.
Liked W98, loved W98SE.
The big surprise? I too loved ME. I never did understand why so many despised ME. It never game me problems.
Liked XP once I got used to it, loved XP SP2.
Avoided Vista like the plague.
Loved W7. W7 is what finally prompted me to give up XP.
Hated W8.x's UI, despite the fact it was a good OS under the hood.
Love W10 - as long as Start 10 is installed.
Liking W11 now that I figured out how to get back the W7 desktop and Start Menu with Start 11 and the Quick Launch toolbar with ExplorerPatcher. Sadly, that might change if MS does away with the taskbar completely in the future as rumored. :(

I will add, when it comes to Microsoft, I started out with PC DOS/MS-DOS and I am still somewhat of a command line junky today. In fact the "Cmd Prompt" shortcut is the first shortcut on my Quick Launch toolbar.

Windows 7.

+ Start Menu search actually worked.
+ Updates worked without taking an eternity to "find" them.
+ Polished Vista GUI with Vista sounds.
+ Pretty sure there's some nostalgia factor in there from my late high-school years but I also used Vista for at least half of that period beforehand.
– UAC was still a nuisance.

Maybe Windows 11 will change my mind in the future, but not right now.

Windows Vista also wasn't nearly as bad as I think people claim it to be. It was ahead of its time, and Intel was simply behind with its dreadful integrated graphics. The GMA X3100 ran Vista just fine.
