I have a opportunity to get this. I already have the rig in my PC, so could use the best of both and make a new rig with the 7800X3D. Would it be a good "upgrade" from my 12700k? I have been after switching to AM5 and DDR5 for a while, so this is a good chance to do it. I can make one "best" rig with the parts from both and sell the rest as a intel rig i guess. I know the 7800X3D is better than my 12700k for gaming.
Thanks

what framerate is 12700k delivering in the games you play ?

It's pretty good i guess, but the 7800X3D is far above it in TPU tests at just about every resolution.

It is, but remember that the 4090 is 88 % faster in 4k than a 3080, and 51 % faster in 2560x1440, so don't expect big differences like the ones you've seen in CPU reviews.

With a 3070ti I don't think you'll get more than a few percent improvement. Not saying you shouldn't if you want, but the difference won't be half as big as tested with 4090, if there even will be any.

If you do get it, I would pull the 3080 from your intel system and put it in the AMD system, and then sell the 3070 and save up for a 4070 Ti Supper.

Well the idea is to get the AMD rig, put the 3070ti in the intel, sell that and get a GPU upgrade to go in the AMD rig, then i would still have the 3080 to sell.

For me, it would be worth doing this only if you have a GPU upgrade planned. The 12700k is still pretty strong @ UW 1440p. If you're looking at a 4070Ti Super or above, I'd say go for it. :toast:

Or if you really just want to get on a newer platform, I'd say go for it anyway.

Can't see you getting any more FPS with a 3070 Ti. It's a 9% gain to a 78003XD with a RTX 4090 in Wiz performance charts.

The biggest benefit would be being able to mess around with both.

I'm sure there are scenarios where the X3D cpu will feel smoother but not to a level that makes the upgrade worthwhile. Still hardware is fun to mess around with so it's hard to put a value on that.

The 3080 will be going in the AMD rig, till i sell the intel one for a probable 4070ti to go in the AMD rig.

I just don't see it being worth $500+ to switch to AMD for a potential *14% gain in 1080 gaming and 3% in 1440p.

This is "best" possible outcome. It only goes down with a less GPU and higher resolution .

They are 22% apart in W1z testing when it comes to min fps at 1080p a number I value more than averages, still I agree you'd have to really want to switch and want to play around with an X3D part for it to be worth it.

The average chart is 16%. I didn't see the 1% chart. Glad you pointed that out too.

Still ya even with a 4090 that is a lot of money to spend. Unless you are planning for a 5090 and play at 1080, it hard to justify $500+ to switch.

Depends heavily on how you want to game if you want to maintain 144+ fps and will lower settings to do that it could be worth it but if 120fps is fine you're golden with the 12700k.

That's just a ballpark example and will really come down to the games you play and how you play them. I would suspect if you max out settings almost zero different except in some outliers that favor the 3d cache.

13700k vs a 7800X3D/7950X3D I couldn't blindly tell apart with a 4090 honestly even though the X3D were ahead if Rivatuner is your jam.

Shame intels having issues with 13/14th generation they'd probably make more sense otherwise.

Best I could find is this last review.

32% difference from 4070 Ti to 4090. How that translates to the CPU side, probably means zero increase to your current FPS.
