Hi All,

I have my doubts if use my old PSU is a good choice or not for a RTX 4070 ti super.

At the end of last year I switch my previous i7 8700k for a Ryzen 7 7800x3D , I also took the opportunity to switch almost my whole system but not the PSU. Now I will switch my rtx 4070 for a rtx 4070 ti super because i receive a good deal and for only 120 usd more I can get the ti super version of the 4070.

But now I wonder , is a good choice to maintain my older PSU - Seasonic SSR-750FX Plus GOLD for a rtx 4070 ti super? I have this PSU since 2018 , Im not the kind of user that does overclocking ( just have a default EXPO profile enabled) and the use that I give to the pc is just for gaming.

My Pc specs :

Cpu: Ryzen 7 7800x3d

Mobo: Asus rog b650e-f

Ram: Kingston beast 6000mhz cl36 32gb

Gpu: Gigabyte eagle OC 4070

Power supply: Seasonic SSR-750FX Plus GOLD ( I have this one for the last 5 years)

Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated

Thank you very much!

Great psu and will have no problem powering a 4070 Ti super, am sure it has a 10 year warranty as well so 6 years usage is nothing to worry about

As long as it has the necessary connectors, I say use it.

tbh with it being 6 years old , id personally swap it out, not worth the risk of it blowing and taking something expensive out.

if it had been say 1 - 3 years old, i wouldve said stick with it, but 6 years.... might be a risk.

It is fine, you can use it. Seasonic has the best PSU's for PC and I have never had a failure with them.

As someone whos had many so called quality PSU's over the last 20+ yrs blow and take out the board/cpu, i wouldnt take the risk, if your fine with 6 yrs then great, just dont moan if it does take something out.

It's got a 10 year warranty, why would you throw away a top tier psu that still has 4 years warranty and plenty of headroom for his system, makes no sense at all

"Exceptional quality, both internally and externally, is the signature feature of the Focus Plus Gold 750FX. Externally, the designers made sure that the PSU will be aesthetically appealing with a modern, yet not extravagant design. Internally, SeaSonic is using only top-quality components from known and reliable manufacturers – including using only Japanese capacitors – all while the design and assembly of the Focus Plus Gold 750FX are both exceptional. It is no coincidence that SeaSonic backs this unit up with a 10-year warranty, one of the longest offered for a PSU."

You might have an electrical problem where you live. That's far from normal.

The risk of ANY PSU these days blowing and taking something out with it are extremely low. I challenge you to find a thread on this or another popular site that indicates their PSU failed and took out connected devices with it.

Yes, it is possible, but again, extremely rare. Typically, when a PSU fails, it stops outputting one or more of its voltages.

And the risk of this happening with a Seasonic is even lower.

As someone whos had many so called quality PSU's over the last 20+ yrs blow and take out the board/cpu
Oh? Really? If you have had this happen many times over the years, then clearly you have mains voltage issues where you live. Either way, you are the exception and not the norm.

I am typing this on a PC (triple-core AMD Phenom, 8 GB DDR2 RAM) that has a 300W Fortron PNF power supply that I purchased back in 2005. The PC runs fine and I even game on it.

My retro PC circa year 2004 (Athlon XP, 1 GB DDR SDRAM) has a Fortron PN(PF) 350W PSU that I purchased back in 2004. The PC runs fine and I game on it.

This thing that you must purchase a new PSU every 5 years cuz your current one is not dependable anymore is simply an urban legend. Unless your PSU is fake or a Chinese piece of garbage that costs USD 20 (which pretty much makes it fake again), your PSU will very likely work for years to come or even decades. And if it breaks down, it is likely an element that can be replaced and the PSU fixed - and if this ever happens in 99% of all cases your PC will not burn out, not to mention a PSU has a bunch of protections too. A PSU is not a time bomb waiting to explode.

So, yeah, I'd use this Seasonic for this 4070 Ti Super.

This is precisely how things have gone for my FSP Epsilon which is currently hard at work in my lil bro's PC (i5-2400 + R9 380, nothing all too crazy but this is a 16 y.o. PSU which still is a clockwork).

I don't see a reason for the OP to upgrade their PSU, unless they plan on purchasing a 4090 level GPU for further overclocking, which, as I can see from the OP, is not the case.
