Welcome to the Final Fantasy XVI thread! This thread is meant to be a discussion forum and to provide a general resource and assistance to all playing the game. Please keep it civil and remember to respect the gaming forum's rules and guidelines.

Please use spoilers while discussing the game's plot in this thread, at least for the next couple of weeks. Many of us are experiencing it for the first time now that it has arrived on PC. Thanks!

FFXVIFix by Lyall (tested working on EGS version as well, as of 0.7.5)

This mod will unlock the 30 fps frame rate in cutscenes, improve FOV and screenshot functionality (thanks for the tip @oxrufiioxo)

Demo version is out now. Performance seems quite subpar on my machine, to the point I haven't enjoyed it very much. Despite official 240 fps support, cutscenes seem to be rendered live in-engine, but with a 30 fps cap. Lots of hitching, dynamic resolution/DLSS seems a must, even for 7800X3D/i9 rigs donning GPUs like the 4080 and 4090. Seems Ultra settings (at least targeting 4K) are beyond this generation of hardware.

Have you guys tried it yet? Interested in knowing your experiences with it, and the settings that worked best for you. Cheers :)

Doing now but this is a pretty high end PS5 game that rendered at really low resolutions to have acceptable performance so I am not surprised it's heavy on PC..... Also it's probably tailored to how the PS5 can transfer large amounts of data without impacting the CPU/GPU. Guessing it's probably similar to how TLOU remastered works on PC that also had meh performance at launch at least hopefully this get's patches to help as well.

O hey, guess once again we are treated to a shit-tastic Square in-house engine coupled with their usual incompetence with PC ports (‘member FFVII Remake on release?). So a double whammy. Didn’t this thing run relatively well on PS5? I say “relatively” since apparently it had massive frame drops and the Performance mode barely helped and was broken and, from what I gather, was never properly fixed.

Also it's probably tailored to how the PS5 can transfer large amounts of data without impacting the CPU/GPU.
Nah, apparently the issue is/was a terrible LOD implementation and the over-use of heavy particle effects slaughtering performance.

I'm running it on a SN750 SE (so low-end Gen 4 drive), it's no speed demon, but loading scenes seem almost instant. It just hitches a lot.

Mid preset at 4K DLAA (native res) with VRS and DLSS frame generation on is yielding me around 90 fps in the town area* (keeping spoilers to a minimum here - I understand game had been out on PS5 for some time now but I haven't played it yet). Seems obnoxiously heavy for a system such as mine - and Steam forum is littered with complaints from people with 7800X3D/4090 rigs complaining about shader corruption and visual glitches, thankfully I have not encountered these, just the really bad frame rate overall

maybe poor use of shader compilation on PC.... FF7R was pretty bad although it uses a different engine.

in this case it was an absolute crap implementation of FSR although FSR on console is pretty terrible in all implementations.

I downloaded it throug the steam link, about 15.8 GB and when I start it something seems to run but I only get a corrupted screen.

Maybe something went wrong during downloading, will try again soon and reinstall the demo.

I decided to buy it, I placed my order through Epic since I've had about 20 bucks of credit there from Genshin top-ups. I haven't played anything other than miHoYo games for about a year now, so it'll be great to experience something different.

This graphics looks subpar even for 2014, let alone 2024. They, apparently, feast on glue instead of actually working on their games. I only got a 6700 XT and a 4K display so I guess it's beyond unreasonable for me to even try.

I'm on 560.81 studio, try this one

I was on the gaming version a clean install fixed it don't have time to play further but the beginning seems fine.

will report back later

It just seems like a meh port in general though but uses the X3D fine once setup.

DLAA max settings 1440p

Screenshot (24).png

So in the most demanding part of the Demo I could find.

Max settings Native DLAA
Screenshot (25).png

Turned down settings enough to be CPU limited This game puts a hurting on 8 cores but uses each thread evenly....

Screenshot (26).png

Bonus all core which is still fine for a game like this.
I honestly thought this would be the worst option due to jumping between both CCD but na the next test was way worse....

Screenshot (27).png

The most interesting to me and the worst feeling and performing option just using the secondary frequency CCD @Dr. Dro

Screenshot (28).png

Game still has either traversal stutter or frame times issues although not Jedi survivor bad

Ooo, that's a nice analysis. I'm looking forward to the full game, I think the developers will still be adjusting a few things in this month or so we have until official launch.

It does seem to be rough on the CPU, but looks like most of my performance issues are GPU-side.

For me 90-120FPS are fine for games like these the cut scenes being locked to 30 and the frametime spikes need to be fix otherwise it seems fine if a bit gpu heavy.

I found a setting I'm happy with, I set the game to target 60 fps with DLSS-G enabled. I guess the game only needs to generate 30 real frames, so it was nice and smooth for the demo. Unsure i'd play it like this longer term, but I'm looking forward to seeing the final build

oh forgot to mention my biggest annoyance with it no support for UW..... Which shouldn't be a thing in 2024. Looks fantastic on an oled though.

Totally missed that the demo is out. Just started downloading, I hope that 3080 has enough horsepower for smooth 4K.

This graphics looks subpar even for 2014, let alone 2024. They, apparently, feast on glue instead of actually working on their games. I only got a 6700 XT and a 4K display so I guess it's beyond unreasonable for me to even try.
Interesting. With 4K maximum this is without a doubt one of the best looking games I've ever seen.

EDIT: Finished the demo. I got a weird slowdown which dropped the fps to solid 4 but a driver reinstall helped. Used the newest Nvidia 560.94 already, but anyway. Absolutely going to purchase the full game when it arrives.

Just ran the demo... well... I cannot describe it fully... it looks bland, empty, animation is kinda like not blending in really it feels like plastered over a painting...

Runs fine via Proton 9.11, I had to hook my PS4 controller thou as Dual Sense didn't work... they overdid with the vibration in cut-scenes... man... it is a controller not a vibrator.

I might pick it up if it falls under 30$, full price? I rather play ZZZ now than this.

What ground my gears here big time is the 30 fps cutscenes... that's just absurd, hoping it's addressed before launch

It will be like we lost the source code again story...lol

Tbh this is the least appealing FF I've seen so far... it looks dull... combat feels DmCish, I had some sort of Game of Thrones vibe from the intro... (that's bad in my books, it is FF damn it... ) Japanese lately fail to understand not to dig into foreign culture and try to mimic it(Forspoken ptsd)... we have enough that crap... do your original stuff... it is like why Witcher is loved, because it is made by same people having Slavic culture and lore, thus they know it well and do not get lost in translation.

Personally I don't see any issue with the 30fps cutscenes and I probably wouldn't even noticed those without OSD on the corner.

How? It feels really jarring for me, maybe because the VRR range for the LG G3 is 40 to 120 Hz and since it falls out of that, it feels really really stuttery
