ASUS today announced the ROG Rapture GT-BE19000, ASUS RT-BE86U and ROG USB-BE92 during Gamescom 2024. These three devices showcase the ASUS commitment to offering an array of perfomant, reliable and robust featured Wi-Fi 7 products. These three products offers demanding digital homes and offices alongside networking enthusiast and gamers outstanding range, throughput and low latency ensuring outstanding wired and wireless connectivity. Additionally, the ROG Rapture GT-BE19000 alongside the latest Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE200 network card are being demonstrated in a dedicated section at the ASUS Gamescom 2024 booth, where attendees can see these two latest gen devices work ideally to deliver an ultra performance Gigabit+ network experience.

Wi-Fi 7 functionality is coming to Windows 11 later this year, and the new ROG GT-BE19000 can unleash Wi-Fi 7 gaming experiences with speeds up to 2.4 times faster and coverage up to 73% greater. Its ROG Gaming Network feature uses Guest Network Pro to deliver a dedicated Gaming Network SSID and VLAN with complete game-acceleration technology. Meanwhile, the new ASUS RT-BE86U offers up to 20 Gbps of wired capacity, triple that of the RT-AX86U, with 30% more CPU power and rich Ethernet backhaul options to create a feature-packed AiMesh extendable network. And the ROG USB-BE92 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 USB adapter supports both USB Type-A and USB 3.2 Gen 1 x1 Type-C connections, and give users access to the wide-open 6 GHz band for low-interference networking.

The ROG Rapture GT-BE19000 gaming router features ultrafast WiFi 7 with 320 MHz channels in the 6 GHz band with Multi-Link Operation and 4096-QAM to increase network capacity and throughput, delivering speeds of up to 19 Gbps. It offers versatile WAN options, including AI WAN detection on its 2.5G or 10G Ethernet ports, and it supports 4G LTE and 5G mobile tethering via USB.

With Guest Network Pro, users can easily manage up to five SSIDs, set up IoT devices and configure VPNs and parental controls. Guest Network Pro technology also includes a Gaming Network setting tailored for next-gen experiences that combine all gaming features into a single SSID and VLAN. Gamers can also take advantage of Triple-Level Game Acceleration, which prioritizes game data packets for an enhanced experience all the way from the gaming device to the game server, while AiProtection Pro, powered by Trend Micro, ensures robust security.

ASUS RT-BE86U
The ASUS RT-BE86U router, featuring cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7, provides dual-band throughput up to 6800 Mbps with Multi-link Operation and 4096-QAM. It includes one 10G and four 2.5G Ethernet ports for combined wired speeds up to 20 Gbps and versatile WAN options, including AI WAN detection and 4G LTE/5G mobile tethering. The powerful quad-core 2.6 GHz CPU, with a remarkable 30% efficiency boost, supports demanding applications. With Guest Network Pro, AiProtection Pro and VPN for robust security, this router offers comprehensive features and seamless connectivity, delivering a robust backhaul connection for an extendable whole-home network.

ROG USB-BE92
For adding Wi-Fi 7 client connectivity to existing PCs or laptops, the ROG USB-BE92 tri-band USB adapter offers ultrafast Wi-Fi 7 speeds up to 6500 Mbps and is compatible with all standard Wi-Fi networks. It features a powerful 6 GHz band for less congestion and interference, delivering up to 3.6 times faster performance than Wi-Fi 6 clients. Enhanced security is provided through WPA3 support, and its plug-and-play design ensures broad compatibility with Windows 10/11, supporting both USB Type-A and USB 3.2 Gen 1x1 Type-C connections for effortless integration.

The question is how much. I know the ROG router is probably gonna be in the four digits, but the RT-BE96U was also $700. There's no point in Wi-Fi 7 if prices stay so high. I must say, ASUS and pretty much the entire industry are making it as hard as possible for me to get of my RT-AC68U... just too comfy. Wi-Fi 5 is perfectly adequate to meet most people's basic needs.

The other router from TP-Link I decided to try was an absolute disappointment - with a huge security risk in that always-on logger spyware it had.

Don't mistake this wonderful device for something as tedious as a router. It is a black-red symbol of vanity, at the same time projecting your "geekyness" - even if you, like many young people, don't know what a file is - and prodigality. You don't even need to connect it to a network to achieve its main goal. What a time to be alive.

This is the trend for new routers these days and I hate it. Might as well setup an enterprise network in your house as it will either be around the same price or slightly cheaper.

They're pretty good at hiding the underlying specs of the soc & wifi vendors, I hope OpenWrt will run on those at some point. I just bought a TUF AX4200 for $130 and reflashed it as a dumb AP not a bad price but it's Wi-Fi 6 only.
As Asus mainly use Broadcom hardware, you can forget about OpenWRT support on these. Some of their TUF routers use MTK and have OpenWRT support.

Finally.. More 2.5G switch capacity on Broadcom stuff. Surprised the BE86U also gets the current top end CPU and not the gimped 2ghz version.

If the price is right in the next couple years, I'll prob get grabbing one of these to use as a media bridge.
