Black Myth Wukong is the most popular game of 2024. This action RPG with souls-like elements is a huge hit, especially in China. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the visuals look stunning, but hardware requirements are cloud-high, thus we had to use upscaling. In our handheld performance review, we're testing how the game runs on the Steam Deck and ROG Ally.

Good stuff. I personally wouldn't play this rendered directly on a handheld (experience will probably be better on GeForce Now if you must play this in one) but not a bad showing.

Yeah, the soulslike aspect of it I don't quite understand. Its just a 3rd person action game, or is GTA a soulslike too these days?

There's literally no punishing content in it. Unless a soulslike element is the presence of bosses... but then... what is Super Mario?

If it hasn't already been said before, it would be nice to see additional handhelds added to these reviews especially ones with Intel chips.

I played this game a bit on my Legion Go. With the settings I'm using, a mixture of medium and high, TSR+Frame Gen enabled, I have been getting 80fps on average at 800p. The LeGo's native 1600p screen scales beautifully down to 800p, so you still get a clear picture. I wouldn't do an entire playthrough of this game on it though, at least not since I have a desktop.

The only Souls-like aspect to me is the boss fights and the fact that you die rather easily. Otherwise, I consider it to be more like Devil May cry or Bayonetta.

Thanks for the review! :)

I've been playing with the thought of getting a Steam Deck recently, but if it can't do 30 FPS in recent games without severe upscaling and frame generation, then I think I'll pass. :(

Voting for Soulslike to be rebranded as Bowserlike. Died too many times to that bastard, more than I died to whatever bosses I faced in Bloodborne and Dark Souls.

I found this after reading your review and thought it might help other Steam Deck users...

Thank you for the review!

...Sorry I just read the first page when I posted the link. Just realized there was more to it. I'll leave it up though in case it can help anyone else.

Is it just me or does this look like a blurry circus? What's up with that?
Not a single screenshot with no blur and with crisp gfx. Is this a joke of a game?
Putting blur everywhere won't hide the fact that the graphics is bad and not sharp. Also it induces motion sickness and other cancerous types.

Its very sharp and not blurry, unless you have to scale down far. Also motion blur is on in these screenshots, so that won't help.

But on my PC this game is razor sharp even at 75% FSR

Okay, that must be it, the screenshots. Because looking at it, I was thinking no way that this game looks like this.
Thanks for clearing it up.

It's the upscaling. I don't know how it looks on a handheld, but FSR at any level gives me that kind of blurry meh feeling in this game that I don't like.
