Hello everyone, I want to ask about upgrade my computer, I have been using it for about 2 years, never overclock or something like that and I want to upgrade it and I already have a plan to upgrade it and its:

CPU Intel® Core™ i7-13700K
RAM Acer Predator Pallas II Black DDR5 6000MHz 32GB (2x16GB)
Motherboard Gigabyte Z790 Eagle AX

I was planning to get these (above) but I would love to hear another recommendations, I really appreciate it. I use my computer to work sometimes like Photoshop and Illustrator, but mainly I want to upgrade to play games in 1080p like Black Myth: Wukong and FFXVI and some online multiplayer/gacha games. my budget is around 800$-1000$ (and I will sell the old parts too) thanks in advance!

Current specs:
CPU Intel® Core™ i5-9400f
Cooler be quiet Pure Rock 2
VGA AMD RX 6600 XT OC 8G Gigabyte
RAM 2x8GB V-GeN DDR4 Platinum
Motherboard Gigabyte H370M DS3H
PSU be quiet PURE POWER 11 600W CM - 80 Plus Gold
SSD Seagate 240GB, SSD 1TB 870 EVO Samsung, and 1TB HDD
Monitor 24" Gigabyte G24F 165Hz FHD

Not an LGA-1700 expert, but running a K-series CPU on a 600W PSU seems a bit optimistic. You will also need a better CPU cooler, preferably a 240mm AIO.
Considering that the next generation (Arrow Lake) is around the corner, you might want to wait till early October, especially since 13th gen Intel CPUs will basically have no resale value in the future thanks to the quality issues of the 13th & 14th gen CPUs.

Alternatively, you could go for a R7 7800X3D and a similar priced B650(E) motherboard. You might be able to re-use your air cooler. However, depending on where you are living, it might be a bit more expensive than the i7. The difference between the CPUs in Photoshop and Illustrator should be minor, gaming will probably be faster on the X3D, especially in MMO-type of games.

I forgot that 13th and 14th have instability issues, thank you for reminding me of that.

R7 7800X3D and B650(E) alternatively is a good option for now and the price just a little expensive but it’s ok, the budget around 800-1000$ now (I think 800$ kinda tight for upgrade this one) but we’ll see the other option

thank you!

Wait for Arrow Lake, or dump your entire budget into 4070 Ti Super. Both are good options.

Getting 2*16 GB RAM and a 9700 later is a good idea too.

Your GPU is too weak to focus on a platform upgrade.

You dont need the 7800X3D necessarily to play games.

If you switch to AM5 and a (Zen4) 7000series CPU your main (and first) focus should be the board since you will have options to upgrade later (Zen5/Zen6)
You can even go for a 6core/12thread R5 7600 if other tasks are not so important to you.

Your second concern is the GPU since it is the N°1 component for gaming.
The stronger the better, and the limit is the wallet.

About the Black Myth: Wukong game...

No ray tracing
1724788472490.png

-----------------------------------------------

The game has pretty high demands on GPU if you start cranking up settings...

1724788890553.png

And there is an optimization guide

Also a GPU decision now or in the future will be affected by your 600W PSU.
Within this power budget you can fit up to a 250~300W GPU if the CPU is conservative on power (up to 100W the most).

With all the problems going on with the 13/14th gen Intel CPUs, I'd stay away from them and get a 7800X3D.

If not i will say stick to the 7800x3D anyway.

I'm wondering about that whether the price of 7800x3d is normal outside from where I live. It's 440USD now, overcoming 7900x3d, and almost just nearby the 7950x(464USD).

In my place, the low for the 7800X3D was ~€310 about three months ago. Since then its price is steadily rising. It's now fluctuating from €370 to €380 on a daily basis.
The 7900X3D is fairly steady around the €385 mark for weeks now. The 7950X keeps hovering around €480 +/-€20 for weeks as well.

Funnily enough, the 5800X3D went from ~€280 to ~€310 after the Ryzen 9000 delays were announced, and the 5950X dropped from €320 to less than €290 over the same period.

All prices are for boxed versions. If you look at the tray variants, it gets even weirder, like the 7700 for ~€215, while the 9600X is still over €290
My gut feeling tells me, that recalling about 3 months worth of Ryzen 9600X & 9700X CPU production, spooked the importers and distributors quite a bit.

Considering that OP mentioned that they want to game at 1080p, I think a 7800X3D would be way overkill for that. The highest I'd go for a 1080p PC on AM5 would be a 7700 or 7700X. Although for the budget they have, they could reasonably build an entire new PC and get a 1440p monitor if they're interested. The build suggestions people have come up with here are decent; however, I believe that they are WAY overkill for 1080p. We'll see if they want a 1440p monitor since you can get a Dell 27" 1440p 165 Hz one for $180.

The 9400F is holding you back but your 6600XT is weak for gaming at higher refresh rates, higher graphics settings, and higher resolutions but I assume you already know that.

The 7800X3D is a very obvious candidate for your CPU, but there's no point spending that much on a CPU+Motherboard+RAM unless you also intend to pair it with a decent graphics card and monitor.

The sweet spot right now is 8 fast CPU cores (either Intel 12th/13th/14th gen or Zen3/Zen4/Zen5) and a GPU capable of driving a high-refresh 1440p monitor, so a 4070, 4070S, 7800XT or 7900GRE.

Personally I would go with an AM5 motherboard right now as the Intel microcode and stability issues make 13th/14th gen very very hard to recommend. If you want a decent, affordable CPU to put in that right now and leave as much budget as possible for a graphics card and monitor, I'd suggest a Ryzen 5 7600 non-X (or a 7500F if you can find one for significantly less than the 7600). It's only a 6-core but it's a stepping stone that will be enough CPU for the moment and you'll likely upgrade it to an 8-core X3D model when it struggles in a few years time - either a 9800X3D or whatever the Zen6 equivalent is by then.

Saving around 300€ on the CPU right now will potentially give you some more budget towards a good graphics card and QHD 144Hz+ monitor as I and others are recommending.

I fully agree. OP just hasn't mentioned if they're willing to upgrade to a 1440p monitor.

Yeah, gaming upgrades are always about avoiding trying to balance CPU, GPU, resolution and refresh rate.

A new CPU will be overkill for a 6600XT
A new GPU will be overkill for a 1080p display
A 1440p high-refresh display will be a disaster on a 6600XT, no matter the CPU
A 1440p high-refresh display will be a disaster on a 9400F, no matter the GPU.

They all have to be tackled at once for a meaningful improvement to the quality of gaming ;)

The lower the resolution the more it becomes cpu dependent.

location makes a big difference for what we would recommend, e.g. for US microcenter offers 7600+b650 board+16gb ram for 299$

Yeah. That's $700 left to get a 7800XT and a decent monitor - just as one example.

Cheapest one here is 399EUR incl VAT.

Im EU and 7800X3D costs around 380€.
2 months ago price was 345~350€ but climbing slowly since.

This is ~1.5years since April 2023

Wow, it seems that the 7800x3ds' price in other areas of the world is also rising, but in a more normal&customer-friendly way...Taking 7800x3d's unacceptable price rise into consideration, I'm considering whether to spend extra 50euro to buy 7950x3d or not.
