Next Gen GPU's will be even more expensive

With AMD out of the high end market and essentially leaving Nvidia the $600+ segment just for themselves and apparently Nvidia using the more expensive GDDR7 memory, as well as decent increase in cores on a more expensive process node as well, the next gen high end graphics are going to be even more expensive, so if you were hoping for the next generation to bring in some sanity, think again!

Latest leaks show the 5090 will used around 600W, over 20k cores and will cost around $2500. The next GPU down the line the 5080 will cost around $1500 and only the mid range 5070 non TI to cost bellow $1000 or around $800 dollars, with the 5070TI costing $1000.

Assuming AMD is very competitive in the mid range segment with aggressive pricing, then we can expect the 5060TI to cost around $500, the 5060 around $400 and the 5500 around $300.

AMD are likely to undercut Nvidia in the mid and low end segment with prices of the 8800XT from $500, 8700XT $400, 8600XT $300 and 8500XT $200.

Blackwell is not using a mode expensive node than Ada. This is why Nvidia needs to make chips bigger and/or increase TDP to make a decent perf bump this time.

I probably grab a 5090 anyway but I expect RTX 6000 series on 3nm or better to deliver a true next gen jump. 4000 to 5000 series is not going to be huge, outside of 5090 thats going to be a beast and prob will cost 2000 dollars minimum. Don't really care, I am selling my 4090 with ease for 1000 dollars after 2+ years

I don't think 5080 will be 1500 dollars, more like 1200 dollars like 4080 on release.

But yeah, AMD has nothing and Nvidia can do what they want. RDNA5 is AMDs next big hope sadly is like 1-2 years away.

RDNA4 is not going to bring anything new to the table and low to mid-end only. A mere RDNA3 bugfix with improved RT. Top card is like 500 dollars yeah. Probably ends up around 7800XT/7900GRE.

5090 won't be less than 2k. My opinion. I actually think they will price it between 2k and 2.5k. Ain't no way in hell they are not going to milk that. It's not going to come out until Feb or March of 25 methinks.

No rush... no rush at all. Ada still kicks major ass and it'll be wise to dodge launch hype

Wishful thinking, the $200 GPU market is dead and the x600 tier isnt gonna be $300 no more

AMD isn't out of the market for anything other than the 4090 right now and they are saying their next gen will be the same offerings but with much improved RT capabilities.

I'm wanting a 5090 this time around but only if they offer enough improvement over the 4090 to justify the expected price increase. I'm expecting as much as $2,000 MSRP but supply availability can affect how much retailers gouge at first. I am patient and I will wait. If Nvidia decides to stupid-price the 5090 then I will pass. It's probably not a good idea to buy either a GPU or CPU on release right now so waiting after launch anyway seems like a good idea to me.

Nvidia needs to make chips bigger and/or increase TDP to make a decent perf bump this time.
Or they have to repeat what they've done a decade ago with Maxwell. Same node, much more bang per watt compared to Kepler.

However, I don't expect anything but more of the same: stupid high prices and very small performance improvements.

I'm so disappointed that AMD isn't going to have a high end card this generation. Just having a single vendor that makes high end gpu's is SO BAD. Arc is making good strides but I fear it'll still be so many years until it can properly compete with amd/nvidia.

If I didn't get 120fps at max 4k on my LG C2 I would upgrade to the 5090. But right now, until higher refresh, bigger 42+ tv/monitors come out, I'm good with the 4090. I already get the max fps my tv can display at 4k. See what happens in the future.

I just want more vram. If the 5090 does bring at least 28GB of vram for less than $2k, I might grab two along with a mobo than can do x8/x8 on PCIe 5.0.

If I didn't get 120fps at max 4k on my LG C2
Meanwhile I'm running my 42" C2 at 60hz due to a flaky USB-C cable that goes to my switch :p

I don't really care about 120hz (I even disable it in my phone), so not really worth the hassle to get another cable haha

No use worrying about pricing on a product that hasn't been announced with an official release. These cards might not be out till 2025 after all and pricing can be decided or even changed minutes before they are announced. Nvidia/AMD can also leak fake pricing.

Keep in mind there were the same rumors about Ada 2000 msrp, 600w power etc.

What we actually know.

Will it be released: yes

Will it be expensive: yes

Will it be more expensive than ada: maybe

Will it perform well compared to ada: maybe, 5090 sure, everything else maybe to probably not
Does a slightly faster 4090(5080) for 1200 usd get people excited after 2 years+. Probably ok at 999 when it gets refreshed a year later but still meh.

Will we get good price to performance: probably not.

Will amd releases a card faster than a 4090: no... really that should have been their target an 800-900 4090 killa not a 7900XT sidegrade if that's what ends up happening.

Will either company care about the sub 300 market and I'd argue the 400 usd market: no

I can barely play some games with the 2080 Ti on potato preset and the 3090 is 50% faster so it looks like I won't last a year with the 3090, not even a day. this is madness

Wait are you saying games should play well on a gpu launched over 6 years ago at high/ultra 4k/1440p no DLSS that was only a 30% ish increases in perfomance over the previous flagship....

I think thats being pretty optimistic with hardware longevity for probably the most underwhelming generation from Nvidia over the last decade from just a perfomance uplift perspective. There never was and never will be a way to future proof a gpu.

That being said once you factor in DLSS and how much it's improved the 2080ti is more than usable at 1440p and 1080p.

Nobody should expect a top tier gaming experience from a gpu beyond 3-4 years of its release regardless of what it cost and for 4k high/ultra 2 years at best... This hasn't changed since at least the mid/late 2000s with resolution going up substantially over that time with up to 2012 1080p being the target and 1440p somewhat niche to 4k being the target for enthusiasts by 2016.

Had you spent 600 in 2019 and in early 2023 instead of 1200+ that one generation you'd have been on a card that is 25-30% faster for almost 2 years now..... if longevity is important that's always the better play.

Imagine the total cost when we have to buy a new mobo with a pcie connector on too! For the 800 watt 6090...

But the sixty ninety will be the best gpu in name alone worth any price hopefully 6969 usd.

They should just call it the RTX AI Ultra 69.. I'd already be pre ordering dat shite....

Nvidia can raise prices all it wants, many cards are already priced at what the market will bear.

People were already extending how long they keep their cards to help accommodate for increased pricing but $1,000 for a 5070 Ti that will have a tiny memory bus and little VRAM doesn't sound anywhere remotely appealing.

People think AMD was keeping Nvidia's pricing in check but AMD and Nvidia have not really competed on pricing since polaris. After that AMD has simply been pricing around Nvidia. Nvidia currently has 88% of the market, for all intents and purposes the market is less competitive by the numbers than the 10 year period where Intel had a monopoly of the CPU market. It's worse by a significant margin to boot, AMD held 26% of the CPU market with bulldozer but it currently holds a mere 12% of the GPU market. By extension current GPU pricing already has Nvidia's monopoly pricing baked in.
