Which low - mid tier GPU's are better right now?

Hey everyone, I've been looking into upgrading my GPU recently, originally I wanted a 3060 but I decided that the price at the moment is a bit more than what I might want to spend and it's also probably just not necessary for the games I play (Mainly Fortnite).

So I then started looking at a 1660 Super but I've found that a 5700XT is cheaper. I was wondering if there was any other GPU that's good for a price of around 200 dollars (Or any reputable refurbished/used places to get a GPU) and if anybody has input on a 1660 super vs 5700XT. I know 5700XT on pure speed is faster but are Nvidias features worth the more expensive price?

I got a new PSU recently, it's 650w. From my previous research the rest of my build is pretty much low wattage. Ryzen 5 5600 and 32gb of ram. I have not overclocked anything either.

Ouch sorry I just looked and they went up in price since I got mine. What is insane is that in some cases a 7700XT is only $20 more.

I've seen 1080ti's for around the 200 area. That would be probably your best bet.

Isn't 3060 a better pick from the same price range these days because of the better driver support (and/or optimizations)? I remember already ~2 years ago 3060 being on par (or even faster) than the legendary flagship.


Though not the joke 8GB version of course but the real 12GB 3060.

If they can find an actual, not scam 3060 12GB for the same price then sure, however if they're on a budget and can snag a 1080ti for cheaper then why not? Pascal still holds up today, faster than the 5700XT they were looking at, 11GB vram, etc.

To be fair we're seeing games use over 8GB even at 1080p. Pax Dei (yes I know it's early access) will eat 11GB for whatever reason. All depends on what OP wants to play.

A 3060-12GB is really the best of class for that range currently. Performs really well for it's class and has all the VRAM you'll need for a couple years. If you're ok with 8GB VRAM, then a 3060TI will be the next pick I'd recommend.

3060 Ti is fine. The crappy 3060 8GB has its membus cut down to 128-bit with its lower memory amount, that's why I call the card as a joke; not because of the memory amount.

Can't agree here though. The baseline 3060 performs just below an RTX 2070, and at a much lower wattage/heat profile. For the price it's a winner IMHO. Of course, I'm one of those people that likes the 4060's for the same reasons aside from price.

My point is that the 8GB version shouldn't be called as a 3060. 3050 Ti or 3060 SE would be a better name.

The 1660 Super has none of the newer Nvidia features like DLSS, if that's what you're referring to. The 5700 XT is faster than the 1660 Super by a bunch and is the best deal on a used GPU at this time but it is missing the variable rate shading feature which Alan Wake II makes big use of so it's performance falls behind in that game. It's possible this will happen in other games, or it won't at all.

The 6600/XT pair are better but will cost a little more. The 3060 12GB is very good and has DLSS but costs more again, avoid the 8GB version as a few have mentioned above. You could look for a deal on a 2060 Super, I got one for a steal and while it needed a bit of work, I love it. I also like the 5600 XT at the lowest end for ~$110 though it has the same limitations in AWII.

FSR is a thing that works perfectly fine. Paying more for another upscaler is asinine.

Anything under a 5700XT/1080ti isn't going to be worth it even at 1080p for longevity. If OP could land a 2070 or similar that'd be awesome or a 1080ti for cheap and bank on FSR.

Ah, this is new(to me). Haven't heard anything about this latest development. I actively avoid HWU because of how unreliable, inconsistent and sometimes dishonest that channel can be. I'm also raising an eyebrow given that, as of this moment, no one else is talking about this. Makes me wonder what they're pulling this time...

However, my original recommendation remains valid. 3060-12GB for lots of VRAM or 3060ti for better performance in the same price class.

Anything under a 5700XT/1080ti isn't going to be worth it even at 1080p for longevity.

But with no RTRT. That's a dealbreaker for a lot of people.

Wasn't even aware that the original 3060's had 12gb since they came out in a time where I wasn't researching into PC parts. Thanks for the warning and advice. I'm still not sure what to get but I think I'll stay away from a 1660 super (They seem overpriced anyway), I look more into 3060's and 5700XT's (Which are what I originally wanted anyway), as well as maybe other cards like a 1080ti and a 2070.

EDIT: I just went looking. I can't find anyone else talking about this. I call BS until someone else confirms it. Also, nothing like that is in TPU's GPU database.

What part is nonsense? Where do you get that idea from?

There's a version of the 3060 that has 8GB so it has 33% less VRAM and 33% less memory bandwidth than the original 12GB 3060 version included in all reviews. But Nvidia still calls it a 3060 which is a crap deceptive naming system. This is it right here:
