My laptop has integrated MicroSD card on it, my older machines have SD Card slots

So I could more reliability test them if I had the time and inclinations

Problem is those fake microSD, everytime I wanted to buy one it always bugs me whether this one is real or fake, one in terms of speed, most importantly fake capacity

If you choose a good known brand available, then you're good to go. Just don't by them if the price is to good to be true, just use common sense is enough to not have fake ones at home.

Never had fake ones at home in over 30 years...

I run a program called H2testw designed specifically to detect fake cards. It writes 1GB files to the card, then verifies these files and checks the claimed capacity.

It detected several fake cards I bought on eBay. I test all CF, SD and microSD cards, purchased new or second hand, before trusting them with my files.

Best test is boot off your raspberry pi and do real benchmark there without the USB controller/adapter variable... those readers suck.

I use a home brew tester that requires the device to be other than the system volume and otherwise empty

I still am working on it to better determine of the device if 512 byte or 4096 byte sectors etc

I have some old U3 speed SD cards but I need my old P52 to read them as my T14 only uses the small ones

The conclusion I walked away with was that:
mSD cards are inherently unreliable,
and the commodity hardware used to interface with them, equally unreliable.

Oh, and that Samsung will be my preferred brand going forward.
A. SanDisk had issues B. Samsung reliably overprovisions their cards.

New Samsung controller mops the floor with recent Sandisk extremes pros. But For small files... it depends for what you use. Sandisks are more camera oriented with better linear writes, so they work better there, but for app small performance not, Raspberry, current samsungs are better. I have some bench scores on my rpi5 at home with booted nvme vs sam pro and sandisk cards if you wish.

Many SSD products out there use Phison controller logic which is not well known

While Samsung makes their own controller, most other vendors use on or another model of Phison controllers.
