my pc would disconnect my HDD randomly today while downloading Star Wars Jedi Survivor so after a long while i opened up my case, at first i thought it was a loose cable but that didn't fix it then now it seems fine so far after using molex to sata instead of sata splitter, i know either aren't ideal but it's a shame that corsair made a 550w psu that was launched last year with only 3 sata power connectors despite costing ₹4,000 (roughly 50$).

i thought this was the right way because earlier my gpu was slightly hotter and with this direction while gaming i can feel the hot air coming out of my case in that area from gpu which didn't use to happen before

this will suck out the hot air from the CPU as well. which way is your rear fan pointing? its supposed to be an exhaust but it looks like an intake

yes, it's intake, seems like i have both in wrong orientation.
but what's wrong if it works? i mean there is minimal difference in temps, also this way my PSU stays quite cool, earlier it was releasing warm air which was concerning for me.

That corsiar PSU is the least bit of concern in terms of heat. Thats why people get good branded PSU. What you need is to ensure that your CPU and GPU get fresh air, and that their exhausts are carried away ASAP, while making sure one component's hot air isnt warming up another component.

Stress your CPU and GPU separately and see if stressing one is increasing the temps of the other or not. If it does, it means you need better exhausts.

no these are only two option i have, it's a very basic old school case.

Unless you plan to run three matched sets of 3.5" HDD and DVD. It might be worthwhile exploring your willingness to cut a fan sized hole in the front panel. The box fan facing against an open side panel option is also valid. Points gained on functionality are worth more than ones gained from beauty.

i have another corsair case which is fairly modern (2015 but it was good for it's time), it has an acrylic side panel probably full sized ATX but the thing is i don't want to mess around with my stuff i am not skilled enough to assemble / build a pc so let alone carving a hole in my current case which requires sharpness and accuracy. My brother in upcoming few weeks would probably swap the case until then i can enjoy doing my stuff and it's not a big concern because despite being summers weather has been really cool in past few months due to regular rain so i don't think it's urgent.

Rear fan should always be as exhaust. Now your PSU is practically the only exhaust there. Your CPU and GPU are such low-power ones so you could take that side fan entirely away.

i have another corsair case which is fairly modern (2015 but it was good for it's time), it has an acrylic side panel probably full sized ATX but the thing is i don't want to mess around with my stuff i am not skilled enough to assemble / build a pc so let alone carving a hole in my current case which requires sharpness and accuracy. Swap the case, its a great way to learn, seriously. And as was said, rear/top are exhaust, front and side are intake.

She may be getting long in the tooth in tech years, but it still rips when I edit video/photos/audio. Just got the a750 back in it, this time from ASRock. Had to tweak the GPU text files to get the GPU to show up, again, come on Adobe! I have some 140mm Riing fans coming to replace my two top 120mm versions and then this thing is done until Intel's new platform arrives... then this platform will move into storage sever duty.

I think you might need a bigger case, that push-pull 420 barely fits in there. And that slim fan looks strange in there. Me i would mod the case in order to fit what i need in stead of compromise.
But hey that's just me...

Its not really a compromise as that chamber doesnt need air flow. I see what youre saying though.

My PC shuts down twice today for no reason, one under no load but long idle the second time is when I encoding video. I felt weird so I monitor CPU temps, its around 70C at load so its normal. But then I smell something funny so I shut down PC quickly.

With my hand I feel the CPU heatsink and VRM temps, both seems alright, then my other hand touch the PSU, it was scorching HOT. Uh oh is the PSU fan dead? When I plugged in the power and turn it on, yes the PSU fan is dead. Just great, I don't have 140mm fan anywhere but wait...

when I disassemble the PSU it seems like only the ground wire broke. If this is the problem then it's a quick fix...

...solder it back on and when I turn the power on...

Yay it spins back into life! Phew I thought I screwed. I reassemble everything back in...though I did turn off the solder iron that I put on the floor...

NOPE I turn off the speaker plug instead, so the iron still burning hot and ready to melt solder and of course I accidentally step on it while I reassembling the PC. Big pain the the...foot. Luckily I didn't step on it while carrying the case, it would be worse.

And it caught my pants too.

Room smelled like burning cloth and meat now. Kids, remember to turn off your solder iron and put it where you can't step on it

More changes incoming. Swapped in 140mm fans in front, so I could use my billet grilles. A new (to me) set of bdie ram is coming for this build this week. There is also a 12900k on its way next week as well. That outta bring up my 1 and 5% lows in COD and I can run my screen at the full 250hz and enjoy so smoother gameplay. Plus its more stuff to tinker with. My first 12th gen i9, so that'll be fun. All I do on this rig is play CODMWIII HC MP and run benchmarking software.

my psu barely exhaust any air at idle plus i like the fact it stays cool and even at load there's minimal exhaust and even then it doesn't get much hot either, i think my current way is suitably the best for me, atleast until i get a better case, side fan is useful for exhaust with the support of fan at the back, it might sound like an odd preference but it does the job for me, though idea of taking out side fan doesn't sound bad i might consider it later when i am willing to play around with my pc.

Semipassive PSU? Mine stays passive with low loads.
