The one and only Wendell talks about performance difference between Zen 4 and Zen 5.

Why can't these guys say what needs to be said in 5 minutes? It doesn't take 20:30 to list a few differences. Sorry, but I'm not watching that.

Edit comment: fixed typo.

Over the weekend whilst away I played wonder boy the dragons trap on my steam deck, absolute perfection on frame pacing, the OSD monitor was flatlined for frame deviation.

I then loaded it up on PC and when I enabled modern graphics it was stuttering, luckily I was able to fix it easily by disabling the in game frame rate limiter, and vsync kept it at a perfect 60FPS. but interesting that quirk didnt happen on the steam deck.

Before I left I downloaded about 20 games or so to the deck, and it would have been about 25 or so, but some were labelled as not compatible, so the impression I get is the majority of games are playable. Although it has to download so many dependencies. Specific versions of proton libraries and so on. It is handled automatically though.

Even if you did it’s seldom worth it. This is the argument that is paying these “tech tubers” currently and unless they did the tests like 16 hours ago phoronix reports (with receipts) AMD landing commit after commit to tweak performance on Linux.

pre-tiktok, 20 minutes allowed you to maximize profits with ads in your video. I think many people now them down to around 10 minutes (I assume google played around with ad revenue since)

One of the reasons I just can't watch some of these clowns doing tech reviews on youtube, just write an article and stop playing with your hair and saying "um" every other minute

Agreed that it’s too long, then again these days, everyone wants proof instead of the trust me bro so its a bit of a fight for balance.

Wendell does have a tendency to ramble though.

It's not about balance. It is all about money through endorsements and sponsorships.

Off topic, but that game means so much to me. Masterpiece from SMS.

On topic, it's a few percent and I daresay not many people are upgrading for a few percent.

Yeah, thats also true.

This is something that does bothers me, for a while now, its stupid to “upgrade “ a cpu every time a new its released.

Unless it does include something that you will take advantage right away (lets say the NPU or maybe AVX-512) it makes no sense to do such upgrades.

For example, I am currently using a 5600x and will see an uplift upgrading to say a 9700x, but its unrealistic to move from a 7800x3d to a 9700x, which is one of the most used cpus in all these reviews.

People buying a 9700x does not buy it for gaming only (they shouldn't). 7800x3d is for gamers. Although the reviews seems to suggest that the 9700x is a gaming CPU, which it is not.

At some point in the video he says "So is 'Zen 5% fair?' well if we look at the windows results... it's actualy 5.9%... but if we change games and resolutions it can go as much as 12%... but these cpus aren't really designed for client workloads..."

^ there, I saved y'all some time.

Only HUB said zen 5 sucks for gaming
Gamers nexus said it was priced slightly too high to be intresting, calling it "Meh" also saying its not Intel
AMD has a habit in prices too high on release to build up volume.
Speaking 7800x 2ID I looked the other day & the stock must be dewindling fast because it was priced at a whooping $599 on newegg.
Now the 9700, is priced around $336 on newegg.

Not surprised, they love to call all AMD gpus “DOA”.
Seems that they only needed a small excuse to also trash the CPU.
I stopped watching them when Tim Huang had a meltdown because of the rumor that AMD was blocking the implementation of his beloved dlss in Starfield.
hell, they did 3 hit pieces videos and once AMD confirmed that they never did such things, they never apologized.
Gamers nexus said it was priced slightly too high to be intresting, calling it "Meh" also saying its not Intel
I find that weird, considering that the first batch of Zen 5 were launched at a lower msrp than the previous models.
AMD has a habit in prices too high on release to build up volume.
I will say, everyone does this, but few cut their prices quickly after.
Normally, I wait a bit for that to happen.
