With crippled PCIe expansion compared to X670 series and price increase for minimal upgrade, hopefully these also get cold reception like 9000 series of CPUs from consumers.

it's only good if you don't care about the in case expansion and care about usb4\tb4.
itx users will welcome it, for nearly everybody else it's shit.

I think if I remember right x670 platform had 44 pci-e lanes and z690 platform had 48.
Z890 is the same as z690 However, the cpu has 4 additional cpu lanes bringing the total platform to 52 (I think) + you also have built-in TB4\usb4 controller giving you the two tb4\usb4 ports for free without consuming anything.

Amd consumes 4 cpu lanes for usb4\tb4 so total platform pci-e lanes is now:
40 vs 52, and amd boards are also expensive with no benefits

1: Look at pics of Godlike board
2: Wonder why the 8-pins at the top of the RAM aren't right-angled like every other socket on the entire board.

X670e carbon has 2 x16 slots which are split into x8x8 or x8x4x4 and even included addin card for 2x M.2 SSDs but this new board seems to have dropped support.

Would like to add MSI mentions support for CUDIMM depends on CPUs used while Gigabyte hasnt mentioned support for it in their spec sheet. So its odd one manufacturer is boasting about support for yet unreleased memory while competition doesnt.

For me, worse than its predecessors.
Nobody needs an extra power connection,
But the 5.1 analog connection is now also being removed from the Carbon.
No thanks. If anyone thinks you can get digital optical out ... you can if you like 2.0. MSI does not pay a license to Dolby or DTS, which is why only stereo comes out of the digital connection.
If you want surround sound, you have to go to Asus.
These new great motherboards are so new and great that the MSI bios is typically the same as the X670 counterparts. Goodlike and Carbon are also identical. They just bungled the points that weren't needed.
If you want to use the extra plug-in card from the Googlike on the Carbon, the points are there, USB4 on the X670X ... no problem, not installed but the menus are there etc
The price for these Blender boards is a joke.
There is no reason to pay >1/3 more for X870 compared to X670. If you want USB4, get a 10€ PCIe plug-in card and that's it, that's exactly why you have “so many” slots.
The only ray of hope with this stupid company is that you can now apparently change the battery again without having to completely dismantle your system and remove the motherboard because you have to loosen the covers at the front and screws at the back to get to the battery.
I wonder if the extra TPM connection has been installed so well that it can only be used without a GPU and without an SSD shield because it is directed under the GPU towards the side panel.

Seems like Gigabyte now supports ECC memory on the new boards, while MSI still only supports non-ECC memory. Well, at least there are now three manufacturers to choose from.

X870-P looks to have the best expansion from eye balling, but who knows what sharing shenanigans are going on.

MSI done a better than Asrock on adding extra usb type c ports, Asrock released a board where they removed type a entirely which was silly.

When it comes to new Ryzen 9000 chipset motherboards I would just like to know 2 things -

1. Boot times: are they improved from Ryzen 7000. These were very high (30-60 seconds boots were noted in reviews which is absurd for a modern PC).
2. Idle power consumption: is this reduced, this was notably about 15-20W higher than Intel last gen. This was a big setback since the rest of the CPU used much less power.

So MSI is going to Dominate Next-Gen AI Computing by providing a power connector?
Do I miss something?

That's where the AI is located. duh!

They literally added USB 4 which was forced on them and maybe Wifi7 in some instances and are adding AI to names? WTF is going on? I mean I have 0 reasons to upgrade from my X370 still. How is this even possible after so many generations of chipsets? Socket longetivity because of stagnation. Nothing else.

I thought this was only first boot when the mobo had to learn the memory. Please tell me it's just the first boot.

Idle power consumption isn’t related to the board or chipset, the I/O die is responsible for the increased idle power consumption vs. intel. This won’t change until they revamp the I/O die or go to a more efficient process/node for it.

Idle power is same....Intel continues to be better at this

Checked all the boards they released, only the MEG X870E GODLIKE is decent
I feel like the X870 is just an X670 with some botox, basically no new features...

Hell naaa
Checked all the boards, this one is stinks!
According to is site only gives - Link
4x PCI-E x16 slot
PCI_E1 Gen PCIe 5.0 supports up to x16 (From CPU)
PCI_E2 Gen PCIe 3.0 supports up to x1 (From Chipset)
PCI_E3 Gen PCIe 3.0 supports up to x1 (From Chipset)
PCI_E4 Gen PCIe 4.0 supports up to x4 (From Chipset)

Calling these 1× and 4× slots as 16× SHOULD BE ILLEGAL :slap:
That is a friggin scam!!!

No manual available, but I would not recommend this board if you eyeing the expansion slots

How will they dominate AI computing. Zen 5 has no NPU, RDNA sucks for AI, so I assume they mean you will use Nvidia gpu at least.

Jokes aside, this must be a very niche community. The only system Logitech sells dates back to 2011.

Including myself, I can count the people I know who've had 5.1 setup in the last 20 years with one hand's fingers. Indeed a hella niche userbase.

seems to be some disagreement on intel adding 4 additional cpu lanes or not, some report 4 additional, some not.
we'll see :)

seems to be some disagreement on intel adding 4 additional cpu lanes or not, some report 4 additional, some not.
we'll see :)
That leak included the four extra CPU lanes.
They dropped all eight PCIe 3.0 lanes at the same time.

How will they dominate AI computing. Zen 5 has no NPU, RDNA sucks for AI, so I assume they mean you will use Nvidia gpu at least.
It is only for the BUZZ words...

Do we need v3.0 lanes tho?
If you have some leftover stuff, you can use them in v4.0 lanes, so all good
