Hey!

Per the mods suggestions, lets make a shrine to the OG joysticks that allowed us to start exploring the wonderful world of gaming. Feel free to also post some of the crazy joysticks ads from back then.

Will start with my first:

The venerable Atari joystick:

Then with the legenday Gravis joystick:

And the weirdest one...

I had both back in the day. The NES one was so much fun, the mouse-on-a-stick thingy was probably the worst one, I ever owned. :p

I remember i had a similar joystick for the SNES, during the craze of Street Fighter II.

I think it was this one:

I got one of these badboys for Christmas - can't remember which year exactly, but it was mid-90's
View attachment 365606
I think it was released for the Genesis/Mega Drive and like the one i posted, made for SF II, so, somewhere around 1993-4.

Was an awesome device.

I surprised no one has posted the Logitech flight stick from back in the day when Freespace 2 was a thing. No throttle on that one. T Thrustmaster HOTAS should also get a mention. That has throttle.

Not as old and not as gold but I still have my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro somewhere. I still remember where i bought it and when i bought it.

I bought it to play Battlefield 2. I bought the Saitek Cyborg Evo before the Logi, but the Saitek wouldnt work with BF2 correctly so I took it back for a refund and got the logi instead.

I dont think Ive touched it again since BF2 died. I tried to get it to work with BC2 and BF3 but the input system for joysticks were always out of whack for those games.

I played Tie Fighter pretty much non stop for a while with that Gravis joystick.

Hated the fact that you needed to calibrate it every single time that you started the game.:banghead:

That's what I used the Flightstick for. I played all the LucasArts flight sim-like games. I played so much XvT online.

A modern Game that was better than the narrative was Squadrons. The sound of the lasers on the Tie Fighter and Interceptor are straight Star Wars.

does anyone else remember these things? LJN's Video Art console? My sister and I spent many hours messing around with this. I know it's considered hot garbage, but it brought a lot of joy to us as youngsters. We got one of these before our first real console, that being a Sega Genesis. And we def didn't have a PC until Windows 98 released. So, I'm fairly certain this was the first time I did anything with a "joystick" outside of visiting an Arcade during a family mall trip kinda outing
