ok cool. I do not like sponsored stuff. theyre not in them for looking cool. they are there to take data.

the difference between all the various version? what more features are there between a 1.2 to a 2.6 ?

Bullshit. Images, as in a skin, are for advertising, not data theft. This is tinfoil hat territory. Don't fearmonger around a legit dev like w1zzard with accusations like that.

A heck of a lot. Read the release notes over the last decade or so?

Please note GPU-Z does not collect or gather any data, unless you manually upload data yourself. :)

oh I see you are so sensitive. if you get so defensive instead of explaining you get so flustered. with the amount of companies now stealing data for lots of revenue its actually a wonder if a company wouldnt add tracking. if they dont great. well done. dont dismiss me not trusting companies. they have shown their evil ways over the years. my brother has worked in hi tech for years as an intl project manager for amdocs and has his own and has said hi tech companies are very shady.

so you allow me to use the 1.2 version?

Brother, GPU-Z is enthusiast developed program for a niche community. The ROG skin is just for fun. And a bit of promotion on Asus part. But there is absolutely no reason to believe that W1zz has in-built code to scrape your data into the program.
You do realize that it’s developed by the same man who runs the site you are on, right? It’s not actually affiliated with Asus in any way.
And you should always use the latest version.

@inquisitor1 -- please note all those other "shady" companies work for a profit! :)
Their products are not free, or at least possibly have tiers - free tier, paid tier, more expensive paid tier/etc.
Or, they offer the products for free but charge for tech support and so on.

GPU-Z is free, always was. So, since it does not require or gather any revenue from its users, it makes no sense for it to do anything of the kind as you alluded to. :)
Those are totally baseless claims that missed the mark by a mile. ;)

could be baseless, I dont trust companies. could be TPU is cool. I have no idea. but getting so flustered and defensive is more telling.

for me someone saying "hey this a totally not tracking app" doesnt do much for me to convince me. I much prefer foss anyway.

alls good. downloaded 1.2. blocked it in firewall. thats the only way I do things. today, its a big problem. the greedy hitech company has made it this way so its hard to tell whos legit or not. a growing number of pro privacy advocates. especially on reddit subs.

…you do realize that 1.2 doesn’t correctly support modern GPUs, right? And that TPU is by no definition of the word “a greedy hi-tech company”? You also realize that GPU-Z has been around for a loooong time and used by thousands of fairly tech-literate enthusiasts and if it was scraping data and calling home that would be absolutely noticed?

I am in full agreement with @Dr. Dro here, I don’t think we’ve seen someone double down THIS hard on something THIS stupid in a while.

Next we'll see "TPU has ties to the illuminati" or something along those lines. Really though, if you don't trust the software in question, don't use it. You're not forced to.

W1zzard doesn't allow that sort of data collection from his site or the tools on it. He's even gone so far as to reduce Google's reach, as much as a site that needs traffic can. Post here.

Just FYI:

1.2 is less than 2.23, in case that wasn't clear

Software can always have exposure to vulnerability - not the same as an intentional pathway for a company to upload data.

Also - that CVE report was from five years ago.

Edit - your point, I guess, is not to use such an old version..

OP stated he intentionally used 1.2. I intended to indicate he unintentionally added a vulnerability instead of fixing one because of a skin download.

Even worse, Afterburner is actually called MSI Afterburner! Absolutely haram, how could this software been used for decades now, just think of how much data MSI has by this point. I mean, it's not like MSI actually makes it, but I am sure Unwinder has built in like a dozen backdoors by now or something.

And then what about the backdoors in Windows itself? Or the browser used to even post here? We're all doomed.

Just so you know this program goes back a decade or more with scores of versions. Each version adds new gpu’s or gpu features. By using 1.2 you will likely not have anything newer than half a decade or more properly read ( monitored) or supported by the program.

I think this has had enough run time. The OPs comments have been replied to, and I don't think it's worthwhile going around in circles.
