Better Late than Never...
Jumped the Wagon on Asus crosshair VIII Dark Hero:
It came without battery and crappy antennas - could not care less: Works like a charm, especially Dynamic OC

Picked one of these up today as I was forced to upgrade from a 4G phone due to stupid network limitations with the 3G network shutting down at the end of this month in Australia.

What the heck is that heatsink on the right? And what did Asus do of the PCIe Q-Release button?

Its Asus's M.2 Q-Release.. M.2 heatsink that's tool-less and pops up by pressing a button, i wish all the other heatsinks were like that, i hate trying to reinstall the screws in those :)

I can get behind the idea of a toolless quick-release M.2 heatsink, that's nice. Can't say I'm sold on its design, though...

What about the GPU release button, though?

The GPU Release mechanism is integrated into the slot now, they call it Q-Release slim, I didnt try to remove my GPU after installing it so cant say how well it works.
Derbauer mentions it Here

I have used the GPU release, its a god send with a big GPU as i have had to use a screw driver to press the release in the past.

I will update the thread I started about handhelds. It is my Wife's birthday and I went on Amazon to look for something for her. In the splash page was current deals. So I am joining the handheld ecosystem. 21% off is not bad and I have a couple 2TB drives hanging around to get Mass Storage.

and the last one a SSD for my friend's laptop, it's getting more difficult finding well known brands, the market flooded by el cheapo and only God knows the stuff quality

Just updated to Wooting Lekker gen 2 hall effect switches.

Very nice. With these ones they don't need lubing, so all I had to do was swap the spring on the spacebar since the Jellykey is a lot heavier.

Perks are much better tolerances so key wobble is almost completely gone.

Good opportunity to clean the caps and the keyboard too.

Just got a set of Logitech Z5450 speakers with a nice head unit that has opti inputs too, better than the logitech Z560 i was using. I have connected my two KEF 2001.3 fronts though.

About a year ago I put together a Steam box PC for my buddy out of Old used parts I had lying around as a sort of proof of concept whether or not gaming would work for him and his kids.

Specs were 2200G processor, some rando B420M ASRock mobo, GTX 1660s, some 10 year old PSU I had around (OCZ I think) and ram and whathaveyous. Just used the free install of windows. Cost him $200 in new parts and I donated the rest.

Well his wife let me know that the guy frigging loves the Steam Box and it's great for getting the kids to do choirs when its used as a reward and stuff so she wanted me to do some required upgrades to get the machine more modern for his birthday.

As such I picked up a 5700x3d for $200, a 6750xt for $300, and a Corsair RX850 for $100 (my contribution to the bday present) to effectively double the performance of the PC (Lawd AM4 is the GOAT socket).

Dude is happier than a pig in crap with how smooth everything runs now.

I finally think I have found my perfect mouse shape, after some decade of trying different grips and mice... It fits my hand like a glove. Build materials while simple are also durable. It looks pretty ugly. I got it on a discount at 58 euro. Might turn out to be the best mouse I've ever owned...

Steelseries Aerox 5
Buttons feel snappy and the force required to push them is quite literally perfect to me; on lots of mice my hand resting on them created accidental button presses, or just holding down the right mouse button without even noticing it proper. Not here. No pinky finger dragging on the mouse mat either, as it is high enough and the right side slopes down comfortably, but not too high. I can get a very comfy grip with this just resting my hand on it entirely, so it kinda invites you to palm grip it, but you don't have to grip anything; its extremely easy to move and control this mouse. Its also feather light at 66g which complements the shape and grip type well. Its either a match made in heaven or some real thought that went into its design/shape.

I'm curious if others have the same mouse and whether they feel the same way, or whether this is just a uniquely personal match.

I am planning to expand my home network and set up a private NAS server with 10G Fiber ports.

So I was whelmed about the ROG Ally and decided to return it to Amazon. I had got a 4TB NVME that was 4.0 and touted 7000 MB/s for under $300 Canadian. So when I got the return confirmation from Amazon I still wanted something new for my PC. I also had a WD AN1500 die on me so I was due for a storage upgrade. I had not put anything on the 4TB yet so it was still there. Now I am not recommending anyone else to buy this because I will show you the ATTO benchmark. Yep that is right 12.22 GB/s maximum Read. Where this drive falls on it's face is in writes. 1.5 GB/s is paltry for NVME. I will just be using this as a Game drive though so those reads matter if I am only downloading the Game to the drive but playing it from there. These are wired to the 1 4.0 slot on the my MB and the 3rd PCIe slot on the MB. Both are wired to the chipset. So 8 TB that can read up to 12 GB/s for less than $600. Yep I will take it.
