Yes, the RGB performance of the Kratos M1-750W is killer. The PSU of a more than decade old platform is completely mediocre at best but good for Andyson getting some more business as I haven't seen to many raidmaxx PSU and was worried about them.

It's still a group regulated design.... so basically not really recommended for any modern platform.
I have no issue with a PSU that uses older regulation methods for the rails (i.e. independent regulation (e.g. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/ocz-zs-650w/4.html) and not DC-DC) but this is far from that.

For the money there are better options - I'd avoid this. And I'm sure Andyson as an OEM can do better - I do still wonder why some of these OEMs still make lower end platforms... I guess business is business but that can harm your reputation down the line.

The vast majority of people looking for a PSU have never heard of Anydson, Chicony, Great Wall, etc., but they have heard of Aerocool, Cooler Master and Corsair so I don't think they are worried about their reputation taking a hit on a junky unit.

 Your title mention of "killer performance" is contradicted by your own statement that it is "completely mediocre at best" and the article you link that summarizes it as "falling short in performance and efficiency".

It kind of has to be - 80+ bronze with a purely passive regulated design would be harder to do.
The irony is the article links it to a 10+ year old Antec HCG PSU as using the same platform, but that the newer one has been improved modernised... but the older Antec PSU had independent regulation of the rails and better output characteristics - from what I can find out that was actually a Delta OEM PSU. Other/older Antec HCG PSUs which were group regulated were Seasonic OEM.
Looking at the two, there are similarities (input / APFC stages) - maybe the design is part shared or copied but definitely inferior end result.

Also I don't get this:
On the secondary side, we can see the four power transistors that generate the DC rails, three forming the 12V/5V lines and an independent circuitry for the 3.3V line. This is the first unit in several years that we have seen without DC-to-DC circuitry on the secondary side. The 3.3V and 5V lines are generated via a group regulation scheme, with the controller monitoring the 12V and 5V lines as one.
How do you group regulate 3.3V&5V if the 5V&12V rails share their output stage...?

That is true, and they will also start their purchase by sorting the list by price low>high - can't be helped.

Anyway, staying on point, unless you need RGB, there are better options... maybe even with RGB...

How do you group regulate 3.3V&5V
He says "The 3.3V and 5V lines are generated via a group regulation scheme" which probably means 3.3V rail is regulated by a magnetic-amplifier post regulator from 5V hence the "Cross-loading the unit also causes the minor lines to fluctuate heavily, a distinct feature of all group-regulated platforms"

If I have learned anything over the years (+30 years of experience), it is to never save on a computer's power supply. A good computer starts with a decent power supply, never skimp on that. Better to spend a little more and save money on an overpriced video card or CPU that you don't actually need.

GAMDIAS? The name alone... I would never ever buy this piece of junk. And they all come here to ask what's wrong with their computer hanging in games and so on, BSOD...

Sometimes making a joke around here is harder than it's worth.
Conversation is a 2-way street. It is upon the listener to try to understand what the speaker is saying. But it is equally upon the speaker to know his audience AND to speak understandably.

When in text, it is impossible to see facial expressions or body language, or hear tone of voice - critical clues listeners use to properly interpret the speaker's message.

This puts the onus on the text writer to make sure the intended message is the message sent.

How is that done? By using smilies and emoticons and/or text shortcuts like "LOL".

I said

Well, true, that is what you said. However, the title of your thread does indeed suggest you meant "platform" performance as it mentions nothing about RGB.

Had you used emoticons or smilies to indicate you were joking, instead of just assuming everyone could read your mind, perhaps misunderstandings would not have occurred.

I note many around here assume "plain text" jokes will automatically be perceived as jokes - even when not clearly expressed as an obvious joke. That's the fault of the writer, not reader. And for sure, I have been guilty of that too.

Sadly, I note too some will make a statement of fact that is clearly wrong (because they failed to verify their facts before posting) then claim they were only joking after being called out for their inaccuracies. :(

According to the Tom's review, it had mediocre power efficiency. But, according to their own efficiency chart, it met the 80 PLUS Bronze requirement of 82% at 20 and 100% load. So not sure what Tom's expected. Had it claimed "Gold" certification (with 87% and 87% requirement), that would be different.

I wonder if Kratos did any marketing surveys to see what sort of demand there is for a RGB PSU. I note with many cases, the PSU is encased in a chamber and cannot be seen. Many cases don't have side panel windows at all. And then there are many case, like my Fractal Design that has a side panel window, but the PSU is mounted below the window opening.

Plus, I don't want my PSU trying to detract my attention away from what's happening on my monitors. But that's me.

Deepcool introduced a new 750W PSU and I took the plunge. That performance led me to purchase the 1000W Modular for my Main. All of my mining rigs run Corsair PSUs as the cable support when you buy the exact same line is great. I had an Asus PSU burn one of the 8 pin connectors (Thankfully the card was fine). That taught me my lesson. It seems some Thermaltake White PSUs only last about 7 years as my sisters PC is dead.

GAMDIAS KILLER Performance... :D Come on guys be reasonable here. I always have chosen for Corsair until now, never had any problems with it. I know they are not exactly the cheapest PSU one can buy, but at least they are rock solid! There are many other good brand's out there, just don't ever skimp on that. Always choose for a good known brand and don't even try to save some money on a PSU.

Save money on something else, Do you really need that 14900 Intel CPU That destroy itself, or a 4090 video card with melting connector's?

As a certain couch loving weird philosopher once said “The rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact-check”

while the unit does pass 80 plus bronze in cold testing, at 100% in the hot box test (more real world scenario for many people) it would fall out of 80 bronze when pushed to full load. Whomever edited the review probably should have made that clear.

I wonder if Kratos did any marketing surveys to see what sort of demand there is for a RGB PSU. I note with many cases, the PSU is encased in a chamber and cannot be seen
my football coach had an saying for that, the PG version was "breasts on a bull" but you can guess the PG-13 version

For sure, I am not defending this product - just pointing out the apparent conflict in expectations in Tom's "opinion".

As for hot-box conditions, I note the 80 PLUS standard only states (my bold underline added),

5.6 Test Room

As is specified in IEC 62301, the tests shall be carried out in a room that has an air speed close to the UUT of ≤ 0.5 m/s, and the ambient temperature shall be maintained at 23°C ± 5°C throughout the test.

That is hardly "hot box" conditions.

While I have emphasized many time that the 80 PLUS criteria if for efficiency only and NOT an indication of quality, in this instance, I only mention this because Tom's made a point of saying its efficiency was "mediocre". It might have been more beneficial to readers if they described it compared to other 80 PLUS "Bronze" PSUs.

I note Amazon reports it is a "Frequently returned item".
