So I bought brand new TeamGroup Cardea A440 1TB NVME 4gen SSD for my pc to run the OS on it + some games and I installed it 2 weeks ago (total 5 days 23 hours on) and the S.M.A.R.T Utility provided by teamgroup website + crystaldisc +harddsik sentinel shows me 98% health status just for 2 weeks of usage when I have only 2800GB written on it for that time. The NVME is rate at about 700 TBW. 2.8TB is around 0.4% of the 700TBW and not the 2% as it says in the softwares utilities I am using and trying to check my health status on the NVME.Should I RMA it , because there is no actual firmware updates available for this drive? It runs on 35C idle , it couldn't be some overheating issue or smth. TRIM is enabled..hmm what else ? Everything seems fine , speeds on the disc are as described , it runs good.I have only 6 unexpected shutdowns and some hours on sleep mode.No errors or something like that.I was filled this disc on 80% and now I released some space up to 50%. What else I can do or should I just RMA it , if it keeps decreasing life that fast ? I know it can be some software displaying bug , but if it's so then it should stay on 98% for long time , and if it decrease more I probably should RMA it ? For example I have Verbatim Vi550 512GB SSD Sata 3 , which I used for OS for 1year+ and did at least 15 windows installations on it + all the many AAA games I play and installed on it every time when I installed a windows , and its 88% health ,which I think it's good. But this one got 2% out of his life for only days :(

Thats the problem when you fill an SSD up almost to its max capacity. it will literally start eating itself by causing excessive writes as the controller also uses the same memory chips for buffering and caching.

If Teamgroup have an app, I would install it and use to check for firmware updates then continue to monitor the health of the SSD and if the health keeps dropping them RMA it.

80% isn't near capacity though.

The only thing they got is some SMART tool that doesn't offer any updating but only monitoring :( They have firmware updates but only managed for other type of TG SSDs

Right now is 50% free disc space (466GB free out of 931GB)

In 5 days, you filled it up to 80% and then deleted 30% to bring it back down to 50%? That's a lot of data movement in only 5 days. 2% (surely rounded) and 0.4% are not that much different in the grand scheme of things. You are assuming that 0.4% is just a perfect write of all files with no changes made at any point. And you are assuming that the later 30% file size reduction didn't cause any writes. And you are assuming that 2% is a full actual 2%.

I would let things chill out for a while and see if the trend starts coming more in line with what you were expecting. I think the estimate on one is low and the estimate on the other is high. Probably more like 0.7% and 1.6%. Not much different, in my opinion.

Well ,it's my OS disk and its normal to wear out at some point faster than my other drives and I know that but 2%health for only once installing the games I play and then uninstalling 1-2 of them should not be normal at any point unless there is some software bug.If it was only 1% then I would suggest that the journey of my nvme just started and it's rounded to like 99.99 showing me 99% left ..But 2% for days is signalling to me only 1 thing - not normal wear and tear.People usually claim that 1-2% are a normal wear for a year of usage.Ofcourse not usage as installing and uninstalling large games everyday. But its couple of days brand new nvme with 2.8TB written and ~6TB.This nvme works pretty good with the speeds and everything but this health % dropping so fast concerns me.Ofcourse I am not planning to install and uninstall games everyday , but certainly I will do changes over time because some games get booring to me and I install new games etc.If it gonna last like a year or 2 like that keeping % dropping like that for days I better throw it out for RMA or buy a new one...The other thing I can mind is that I put my pc to sleep very often for these 2 weeks of usage(5 days 23 hours ON), which I read somewhere is using a lot of disk writing or something like that .If its 98.99% health and showing to me 98% is fine , but still not perfect when 2.8GB written is 0.4% of the 700TBW life. I also forget to mention that I did couple of disc test when I installed the disc.Like 3-4 tests to confirm the numbers from the box are same as the hardware because people claimed about this disc that it have the same numbers of writing/read speed as it's described on the box unlike many other nvme drives. I forgot to mention that after installing the drive and all the games ,programs , configurations and tests It showed 100% health , days after this reported them 98% I guess the information comes with delay but who knows :(

You didn't say that it was an OS drive. Or I am blind. Now it seems even more normal to me.

By the way, it is 2% in 5 days, not 2% for 5 days. When you say "for" (second time), it sounds compounding. It isn't compounding. It isn't 2% per day for 5 days in a row. The wording makes it seem even more alarming than it actually is.

Really the number of days in inconsequential. The amount of data you have actually written is the alarming thing. And you confirm it was on purpose.

i'd say just use it as you normally would and check again in a couple of months. But yeah if you uninstall/install hundreds of gigabytes worth of games every few days it'll wear out faster than if you don't do that.

I am really sorry for my english , English is my second language in school :D Soo , the NVME is installed as OS drive 2 weeks ago when it first came out of the box and installed in my build, but in SMART tool monitoring software says 5 days and 23+ hours ON , which I guess is gathered time for my NVME how much hours did it worked at all. I installed like 10 AAA games on both my new nvme OS disk and disk C:2 which is Verbatim Vi550 S3 512gb ssd. Most of them were on main C(which I filled around 80% of the drive space with it + OS) while less of them on C:2. Sine I saw that there is health decreasing I immediately moved some of the games to C:2 in order to free up to 50% at least on my main (nvme) because I heard it's waring out faster when it's full. That's all , Nothing much nothing less.Just installing OS and couple of games + tests.I don't know if that is normal but it doesn't seems like to me ...

i'd say just use it as you normally would and check again in a couple of months. But yeah if you uninstall/install hundreds of gigabytes worth of games every few days it'll wear out faster than if you don't do that.
Ofcourse it will and I know that , but I am not planning to just install some games and let them be there forever.I will play them , then remove them , then install new ones ,but this cycle will happen over large time not for days.I installed that much games for that little time just because I had to install whole new OS on a whole new drive. The concern for me is If I for example install 1 game at any 2-3 weeks , does it gonna drain the health as fast as it did right now with only 10 games... I am a type of person who plays intensive for weeks , then I stop for weeks or months. But if it drain so fast , I better buy another normal SATA SSD and use it because I really don't see much difference between 500mb/s read/write speed of my SATA 6gbps and this new one NVME ,neither in system boot , only difference I see is when loading heavy games like god of war Ragnarok or starfield and the loading times are much faster , but nothing impressive ... I will keep monitor it , right now I installed all of my preffered games and really don't have nothing in mind to install in the near futur.Or I just don't want in order to prevent nvme from life decreasing because of installing couple of games.I am thinking of returning it , but before that I will try to drain it to 50% at least :D

I have had this as my boot drive for about 10 months. 5 Days is too short to have lost that much.

Exactly what I am saying..It can't be normal for just couple of days to get -2% health even installing 10 heavy game files...

Here is mine :(

You have almost 3TB of writes and over 6TB of reads on a 1TB drive in two weeks.

Sounds like you’ve been beating the shit out of the drive with ‘tests’.

No wonder it’s dropped to 98%

As I said , I did 4 tests at 64GiB and 10 heavy games installed on + OS . Even I download game files (ISO files) at the other drive and only installed them on my main(NVME) ? When I configure freshly installed OS with all my programs and games it's normal to get 3TB of writes , yet it's not normal 3TB to be equal to 2% ?!

Yup.. my boot drive was an open box deal at a time when good deals weren't really around I think..

I got the drive at 97% and its still there, had it since 4/2/22. My SN850X dropped 1% after just over a year, and I wrote to it quite a bit.

Yup.. my boot drive was an open box deal at a time when good deals weren't really around I think..

I got the drive at 97% and its still there, had it since 4/2/22. My SN850X dropped 1% after just over a year, and I wrote to it quite a bit.
Lucky you :)

Well.. I have had good luck with WD and Intel drives. Not so much with OCZ and Crucial.
My choice was between samsung pro or this one , but because I know about the firmware problems and health issue on samsung I chose this one and the result are these... :rockout:

Theres likely nothing wrong with the drive though almost 3TB writes in a week or so is excessive, I have had my NVME C: drive for over a year and have written 10TB to it in that time, it's at 99% for context you have done 1/3 of that in a matter of days, you might be better off with a HDD

As you mentioned HDD , I have one from 5 years ago , written so much on it , and it's still 97% remaining life. Also my previous OS disk is verbatim 512gb and re-wrote at least 15 windows on it+ the thousands of games - still 88% :peace: But this one drained 2% for nothing ...

Probably nothing to be concerned at. Unless you're a nutcase who likes to hammer the drive constantly, you'll hardly ever encounter a problem. Took me somewhere around 4 years to write enough data to a 128GB Sandisk X300 (~60 TBW) before it kicked the bucket.

If excessive use is nothing, then yes, for nothing.

You already accounted for around 1% with your own basic math. Plus it is an os drive. Plus you did tests which you didn't include in your original math. Plus "2%" is rounded.

Seems like the result is as expected.

I'd check the framerate and disk health. Maybe you got a lemon...
