Cap replacement

Looking to see if anyone on here does motherboard capacitor replacement. I have 2 motherboards in need. One has about 12 caps the need replacement and the other one has 1 cap that needs to be replaced. Looking for a cheap option as there no need to put a bunch of money into these 2.

A lot depends on your skill with a soldering iron and how much value you place on your motherboards, but I have successfully recapped a number of old systems.

I used a beefy 50W temperature-controlled Oryx iron with interchangeable screw-on bits. Don't use a fine tip. Medium to large is better. You need to get some heat into the board, especially if the negative leg of the capacitor is bonded to a large Copper ground plane.

A quick dab with some old fashioned 60/40 Tin/Lead solder to "wet" the Lead-free solder joint. Hold the iron against one leg for 10 seconds until all the solder has melted, then "rock" the capacitor sideways from the other side of the board, withdrawing the leg by about 1mm. Move over to the other leg, apply heat for 10 seconds, then "rock" the capacitor back in the opposite direction.

After 3 or 4 more alternate operations, you should be able to pull the capacitor cleanly out of the board. No need to clear all the solder off the PCB pads with Soderwick until the capacitor has been removed. Practice on an old scrap board before attempting an important repair. Replace any swollen or burst capacitors, but leave all the others undisturbed. No point in tempting fate. A professional will replace all similar capacitors. It's up to you. Make sure you solder the new caps in the right way round. Polarity is very important.

Just to add perspective, I believe OP is looking for someone here to do them a solid, if you will. Like they ship boards and caps, you do the soldering for a bottle of Jack or a case of beers type thing. I would do it, but I don't have a tiny iron.

It started in the BST section, as they PMd me asking about it in detail, then here.

If OP were to add a general location, maybe someone super close can do it, and save on shipping too.

You need a powerful iron, mother boards have large ground planes that soak up heat.

I use an old Radio-Shack desoldering iron as the tip has a hole and that lets one apply heat around the capacitor leg.

I gots plenty of power, but unless I grind a fat end much smaller I'm gonna melt more than I want to.

For me the hole in the tip is critical, not to remove solder but to heat around the leg; along with use of leaded solder.

Sneekypeet is totally correct. The boards really aren't worth a ton of money and I actually have a duplicate of one of them that's in great shape. I was looking to see if anyone on here wanted to try and tackle the job for practice and I would pay just didn't want to put a ton into it. One of the boards seems like only one cap is bad. the other has about 12. If that one that needs 12 to much for anyone to handle it's no problem because that's the one I have a duplicate of. I have another board that I think need a bios chip replaced also.

Its not that difficult.

And you can also buy or find a test board to practice yourself. Maybe from recycling store. Mainboards there maybe cost €5.

I also did it myself 1 time. I dont desolder. Just wiggle it from side to side when pulling on the capacitor and heating it up. And do the same pushing it in.

I had to replace 4 then, and took me about 10-15 minutes.

You want a good Solder iron. A model that put enough heat in it.
The weaker the Solder iron is, the more heat you put into the boards surface
A bigger Solder iron heats up quicker, so the capacitor pins and Solder heats up fast. Then the surface around it doesnt heat up that much.
