Here’s an interesting tidbit, my Intel i9-7920x introduced in Q3/17 scored 17052 in R23. Beating the Threadripper 1950x also introduced Q3/17. I had a mild overclock of 4.4Ghz. It did get a bit hot on a few cores, may do a re-paste before I proceed with a 10 minute stress test. Changed up from a 7820x for $100. I thought that was reasonable for an upgrade from 8c/16t to 12c/24t. You can see the R23 scores for my old 7820x.View attachment 367889
I love X299 platform there is a lot of possibility to play with OC and tweaking.....my advice to you is to OC cores individually if you know what you doing as you can see for yourself some of the cores heat up before the others which means some cores can reach higher clocks then others also you can put different V on any cores 'tho you will need time for all of this tweaking but if you like to tweak could be very rewarding.....My 7940X is undervolted and OC and my cores goes from 4,1Ghz on some all the way up to the 4,7Ghz on few cores and results are really good(cinebech R23=20 272p).....

Thanks for the tip, yes I am aware of a more attentive manner of overclocking. As you pointed out it takes much time and persistence to achieve an optimum score. My workloads for each machine is consuming enough. As well, both my 10980xe and the 7920x are air-cooled vs water cooled, I’m of the doctrine “KISS” (keep it simple…). So my overclocking profiles are mild and fan profiles are set to maintain a lower db. It is interesting though, that the IPC of the HCC CPU’s on the X299 platform are still relevant and able to perform timely, significantly sophisticated computational and simulation workloads, at least for me. Although I am researching for a new HEDT build, still deciding on whether it should be AMD TRX50, WRX90, or Intel W790 platforms; as AVX512 is important for my workloads.

Ahh Cool I am glad to hear that X299 serving you well for long period I am also using just Air to cool my CPU and yes I do like to play&tweak with OC but I never like to push Voltages and my CPU to the limits where you getting diminishing results 'tho I am not using my CPU to do anything highly demanding mostly just playing games and surfing the net but I add a lot of ram as I already get with this system 64gb of ECC(works with older bios) +now I added 4x32gb for total amount of 192Gb which I recon will be more than enough for many more years.....
