Hello

I have a i5 12500h and i constantly face "X" game is better with e-cores on and "Y" game is better with off

I´m wondering , is this exclusive to the 12th generation or all e-cores perform like this?

I find it very annoying to constantly go to the bios to disable/enable e-cores to suit the game needs

I also tried process lasso to disable the e-cores and it doesn´t work at all , the performance is not improved

I´m asking because i´m about to upgrade the laptop and if all gens are like this , it is better to go ryzen altogether

thanks

Have you updated your OS? I've played with a 12600kf and 14900k while never having this issue.

They should work fine, especially under Windows 11. But in general, i'd tell you to buy a Ryzen laptop anyway. The CPUs are better suited for mobile format.

I´m about to get a acer nitro with a i5 13420h

thought the 13th gen fixed it somehow

but if it is all the same it is no worth keeping on intel

i have severe stuttering on elden ring with e-cores on for example on elden ring ( it goes away when disabled)

but it is very annoying overall , having to constantly enable / disable

E-cores are better on Raptor Lake - at least parts that truly are Raptor Lake - many are just 12th Gen rebrands. Some restrictions have been lifted regarding E-cores and ring bus clocks which are no longer bound, but in general, this isn't applicable to laptops.

Seriously, if you want me to give it to you straight: if you want cheap and reliable, buy an AMD Ryzen Dell G15 gaming laptop. Those things are slick. No throttling, pushes good frame rates. I have the 2021 5515 and I love it. Intel CPUs are generally bad news on mobile, especially if they lock out the controls for Throttlestop with the system EC.

I second the recommendations to abandon Intel and go AMD:

1. The very idea of heterogenous cores is... brave to put it politely.
2. These E-cores are actually worse performance per watt, especially if we downclock the P-cores.
3. Game developers forgot how to optimise games so thinking you might E-core your way to better gaming experience is naïve at best.

i´m sorry but what does this do ? is there some software that can enable / disable cores easily ? i tried process lasso but it did not work

thanks
Believe his larger suggestion is checking BIOS version for updates and along with it awareness of correct sequence to install BIOS, ME firmware, and Intel chipset driver. :)

Are you sure your laptop isn't data limiting or has a plan running that is restricting power usage within a set window length?

Can't open your system specs to see if laptop model is listed. If you already have latest BIOS there is a chance you have newest ME firmware. Search your model or look on manufacturer support page for correct order. Want to say it should be ME followed by chipset if BIOS is up to date but others are not.

Look in Control Panel > Device Manager > System Devices for Intel chipset and ME versions to check against currently available.
