Hi everyone and webb!

I have a laptop model Zenbook Pro Duo 15, i9-10980HK and 3070.

The laptop is throttling alot, even when I boot up the machine, it randomly went over 95+ degree and then go back to normal 50-70 range. Whenever I launch a game, its become really hot and throttle the game FPS like crazy. I did undervolt my CPU and it was really stable (-.180mv would crash but i think -.1719 is the sweet spot), I think it helped temp a bit (as I barely see EDP other on core and gpu anymore except ring).

Here is my settings and today's log.

Any idea it would help me improve my temp? I already sent the laptop to a repair service to have them repasted the CPU.

It is impossible to know if the tech did a good job or not or what thermal paste they used. You should learn how to do this maintenance procedure yourself. Try using Honeywell PTM 7950. Most repair shops do not care about your laptop as much as you hopefully do. The bulk thermal paste they used may or may not be any good long term when applied to a mobile CPU. You should be able to find a YouTube video which shows how to disassemble your laptop.

I am not familiar with your laptop model. Even if the thermal paste is perfect, if Asus used an inadequate heatsink and fan, your CPU is going to overheat and thermal throttle. The cooling has to be perfect to try and keep a 10980HK at a reasonable temperature. You can reduce all of the FIVR turbo ratios down to about 35 to try to control the maximum heat output or you can allow your CPU to continuously bounce off the thermal throttling temperature. Either way your computer is not going to be able to perform at its full rated speed.

The real problem I see in the log file is that after a while, your computer starts to PL1 power limit throttle to as little as 10 Watts or less. This really kills performance. You can try checking the MMIO Lock box which is near the top right of the TPL window. Sadly, some of these excessive throttling schemes dreamed up by manufacturers cannot be fixed by using ThrottleStop. After MMIO Lock is checked, in the Power Limit Controls section, clear Disable Controls and try setting Long Power PL1 to 45 and Short Power PL2 to 60. Set the Turbo Time Limit to 8 seconds. This will cripple maximum performance but it might be enough to help your computer avoid reducing the power limits to a measly 10 Watts.

Thank you for your suggestion! The max temp is no longer at 100 degrees, and I feel the throttling in game is way better now.

I would clear the BD PROCHOT box on the main screen. This type of throttling is excessive and rarely if ever necessary.

You can try lowering PL2 to 55. That might give you a little more thermal headroom.

Hi webb! Sorry for a late respone.

I currently experience a new issue, whenever my laptop go into sleep mode (not immediately, but like a few minutes or an hour into sleep mode) the laptop just become dead. No way to wake it up unless I force a shutdown by holding the power button. I have checked both button on sleep default but not working, is there anyway I can fix it?

Try setting all of the ThrottleStop undervolt values to zero. Check to see if you still have this problem.

Are you still undervolting the Intel GPU? I recommend not undervolting the Intel GPU or the iGPU Unslice. That might cause issues in Sleep mode.

Oh! You are correct, I set the offset of iGPU to 0 and it no longer has sleeping issue. Weird though but thank you so much!

@unclewebb hi! I have a question, so i recently noticed the laptop keep giving BDPROCHOT signal, i did a few trouble shoots and i found its the charger issue, i replaced the charger with another one from my friends (his charger is 240w while mine is 280w), and i no longer see BDPROCHOT. Is my charger failing?

When the BD PROCHOT is clear on the main screen of ThrottleStop, can your 280W charger charge your laptop without any problems? BD PROCHOT is separate from whether your charger actually works or not. Likely just some cheap sensor that has failed. There is no need to replace your charger if it is still capable of charging your laptop.

Yes, it works well with BD PROCHOT unchecked and charged properly. Without it unchecked, BD PROCHOT will be triggered as soon as i plug in the charger and keep blinking every few seconds.

Is it safe to have the BD PROCHOT unchecked permanently?

I never check BD PROCHOT.

Your CPU will still be able to thermal throttle and slow down if it ever gets too hot whether BD PROCHOT is checked or not. PROCHOT (processor hot) and BD PROCHOT are two different things.

I would not waste my money on a new charger if the one you have still works. Be happy that you found a free fix.
