I guess releasing the same thing over and over again counts as "cpu support longevity" for AMD. At this point, it looks exactly like what intel did refreshing skylake, minus the core/thread count upgrade that 9/10 gen got

Yeah and the used market isn't helping either3300X was gone as soon as it was out of stock lol. I do no recall ever seeing it replenished..
Needs citationThey just discontinued the 5800X3D, their most popular product in the last decade, and now they're releasing these? I can't figure out AMD's strategy sometimes.
Edit: The 5300G should have been released to the public right from the start. It would have been a great HTPC chip.
Now you can pair a 5600 XT with your 5600 XT. Brilliant!
Yeah, I forgot there was usual intel chipset/socket money extortion scheme involved with 8/9 gen. I'm on s1200,moved from 1150, didn't remember there was a 1155 in between skylake and comet.I just wish that Intel 10th Gen worked on Gen 8/9 or 6/7 mobos. At least AMD tossed us that bone with the 5700X3D working on most AM4.

I think it got 1 restock for retail and that was it. I remember getting mine from Canada Computers and there were 2 left 10 minutes after the store opened. That was 3 months after the release.3300X was gone as soon as it was out of stock lol. I do no recall ever seeing it replenished..
Easy reason: 5700X3D. Easier to produce, easier to sell, not that big of a performance gap for those still on AM4 to complain.

This forum isn't actually representative of most computer users. The "extension' of socket AM4 is mostly dumping old silicon that doesnt have a market anymore. Which isnt a BAD thing, per se, but when I hear "extension" I'd be more interested in zen 4 on AM4 or something.
At least we finally got a quad core? Shame most of the motherboards are not made anymore.
That's exactly the problem. With Zen 5 being a dud, and also being the second to last release on AM5, makes it a bad choice to upgrade from AM4 from a value point of view. Sub DDR5 8000 is crap and offers little to no tangible benefit (excluding Intel here, as their memory controller is top-notch) over fast DDR4, with AM5 not taking advantage of its increased bandwidth due to AMD's inability to make an IO die with a decent memory controller and increased IF bandwidth. This forum isn't actually representative of most computer users.
There is still a market for AM4. I know I am not moving any time soon. I just purchased another x570 board (WS-x570-ACE), it has the features I am looking for (slot bifurication), which I can't find on either x670E or x870E.
Then there is the whole price of a platform jump - in my case, it is nearly $1,000. A 20% increase in performance isn't worth that to me.

It is not as bad as you claim. The same argument could have been made for AM3. People who have gone to AM5 are not disappointed in their PCs performance. X3D chips do not need fast memory and even without it still are better than Intel at Gaming. Especially when you add power draw to the equation. That's exactly the problem. AM6 is now my target. Getting on the first gen of that, providing AMD is still capable of increasing IPS of Zen 7. If AMD don't go down Intel's road of profit at all costs, then AM6 should be a kick-arse platform, what AM5 should have been.

Yes. I'd also add that the launch will probably not be a loud one, and the 5600T and 5300G models will target OEMs anyway.I don't see the reason for any negativity about this announcement. Aside from Windows 11 showing first-gen Ryzen the door prematurely, AM4 remains a pretty solid platform. I'm still running a board from 2017, it's still receiving BIOS updates, and I'm feeling no pressing need whatsoever to retire it. And, I like that the pool of possible processors I could use has grown as large as it has. Life is good.
If I had Zen 1, I would be ecstatic to upgrade to Zen 5. That is not the case we're talking about though, is it?It is not as bad as you claim. The same argument could have been made for AM3. What was the jump from AM3 to AM4? It was not 100%. I understand the value argument but the PC is a luxury item. I could have stayed on my AM4 systems and still use them for other purposes. I CHOSE to go to AM5. Value was in buying the cheapest RAM I could. My case was a little different though. You see I bought a 4K 144hz monitor when I had my AM4. AM5 allows me to use that without turning Games to 1440P to get high frame rates. So yes I am glad I made a major investment. Plus now I have a MB that will be supported for only God knows how long.If I had Zen 1, I would be ecstatic to upgrade to Zen 5. That is not the case we're talking about though, is it?
Where is the value for upgrading from a 5800x3D or 5950x to Zen 5? You're looking at a major investment for 20% more perf.

1600AF was something interesting being Zen+. These new models are mostly one of the same with a different name. The only exception being 5300G because it is indeed something new. Of course if it comes out at the price of a 4600G, it would be of no interest at all.For some reason, this indeed gets a vibe of 1600AF.

It was huge. Because AMD was way behind Intel. My 6 core Thuban was more or less at the same level with an Athlon 3000G, a 2 core 4 threads Zen+ CPU. Thuban was offering better desktop experience because of the more real cores, but that Zen based Athlon could offer about the same computation power as that 6 core AM3 CPU. Bulldozer CPUs like the 8320 weren't much faster than the 6 core Thuban, because they where more or less 4 core CPUs advertised as 8 core models. They did had more extensions and some performance advantages, but not huge ones. With the first Zen AMD offered a real 8 core CPU with MultiThreading on top of that, plus a 50% IPC gain. Going from AM3 to AM4 was a no brainer and at the prices AMD was offering it's first series of Zen CPUs, not just the average consumer, but also enthusiasts and professionals where jumping to AM4. AM4 and latter Threadripper killed Intel's most expensive and profitable line of products for the average consumer/enthusiast/professional. The HEDT line of CPUs. People weren't pissed about AM4, they where ecstatic. Even Intel buyers finally seen Intel moving to more cores options, meaning even them where probably really happy to see AMD offering some real competition.None, and people were pissed about it back then too.

Because a quad-core in 2024 (12100) will offer you very marginal savings compared to a hex-core for an already compromised system.
Unless you couldn't give a single shit about longevity, multi-core performance or gaming a 12100F is a rather poor recommendation.
