Solidigm NVMe Custom Modded Driver for All NVMe Brands SSDs & Any NVMe SSDs

The modded driver gave me improved random read speeds on my WD SN 770 on W11 24H2 but it crashes the game or system for me in GPU Decompression Directstorage games like Final Fantasy XVI/Ratchet Rift Apart after 45m-1h of gameplay. Games play fine at first but then its like it stops loading things eventually which causes funny but also weird bugs in-game and then the system hangs. Reverting back to default Microsoft driver makes the games play for hours no problem. I also have a Solidigm P44 Pro as my system drive and its official Solidigm driver have no issues with these games either.

Thank you for the report! now that's something new to look into it. I will need to find a Directstorage game that I could test and a free time to play it to try to reproduce this problem. Let's hope I find the time to do it

I can confirm that DirectStorage games cause system crashes. It's possible to crash and shut down the entire system from the Forspoken main menu, and even if you manage to get into the game after a few minutes of play it triggers the same problem

I have ran it for hours currently like 2 hours on each drive I have (I got Lexar NM790 & Micron 2400) , didn't face any issues yet. I'm currently using Fix1.zip .

The DirectStorage tool will test the drive depending on the location of the tool. Like for example if you want to test it into a different drive... just place the folder into that drive and run it and it will test it according to the location of the drive

Hello & Thank you for your time with these adjustments . I personally did not test them sadly, I am afraid to beta test these as I don't want to risk another unsafe shut down like previously which can end up potentially corrupting things (like my save data). Someone else however may test and see if there is no problem. I have tried Micron 64bit drivers for my SN 770 drive instead and it seems to get similar random read results to your driver originally and everything seems solid even in Directstorage games. Other drives may be different ofc so for others your driver may benefit more.

I personally did not test them sadly, I am afraid to beta test these as I don't want to risk another unsafe shut down like previously which can end up potentially corrupting things (like my save data). Someone else however may test and see if there is no problem. I fully understand Thank you so much for your time & helpI & no one would have known about this if nobody reported it It is indeed as you mentioned each drive behave differently and some might cause problems depending in lots of factors & setups & how it is being used or pushed .

I wish I could have different NVMe brands to test it out [I have tested it on 3 NVMe brands that I have on hands] but the one at work only got a generic HP NVMe brand and there's no way to test a game on it as it's using very old Win10 ltsc built.

Edit:- Just to point it out... Micron 64bit drivers doesn't support DirectStorage

try this Replace these 2 files
dstorage.dll
dstoragecore.dll
in the game folder and see if the problem is solved

The real benefit of Directstorage currently is GPU Decompression but only two games use it so far (Final Fantasy XVI / Ratchet Rift Apart), other Directstorage games fall back to using CPU for assets. Both implementations are different but achieve the same similar goal of giving faster load times.

Anyway, SpecialK is a godsend and I use it too on any game I play, such an amazing tool I even use it on online games like... Rocket League

Today I'm sharing this driver which Solidigm promises performance improvements & more responsive user experience made by Solidigm. I have modded the driver to work on all NVMe SSDs and any NVMe SSDs, as long as it's NVMe.. this will work.

They got a feature called "Fast Lane" where they explain how it works as I quote...

"The Synergy 2.0 NVMe driver. Version 2.0 promises even more performance than previous versions. Solidigm describes its improved NVMe driver as follows: "An Intelligent and Responsive Storage Driver Compatible with all Solidigm client SSDs, the Solidigm Synergy Driver offers a variety of user experience optimizations. Test before & after and decide if you want to keep using this driver or not Focus on RND4K read/writes, that's what the Solidigm driver are focusing for That's what is most important parameter for day to day usage. They are the ones that Windows typically uses [RND4K] in almost all kind of read/write operations.

• If you are willing to continue then please be careful and mindful on each step... especially when doing the Uninstall Instructions. Notice that using apps like [Samsung Magician, Micron Storage Executive, Crucial Storage Executive, etc...] with solidigm custom driver might cause issues.

Install Instructions:-

• Simply download the file from the attachment of this post.
• Extract the .7z file. [Use 7zip]
• Simply run setup.bat file & reboot!
• Enjoy!

Uninstall Instructions:-

• Get back to Microsoft Stock NVMe driver through device manager 1st.
• Click on Driver Tab and then click on "Update Driver" and then click on "Browse my computer for drivers"
• Then click on "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" and then select on "Standard NVMe Express Controller" and then click on "Next"
• Reboot

I have made two versions of it...

• One is Solidigm driver without any modifications except making it work on all NVMe drives
• Second one got the name tag [+Tunings] on the file name. Also works on all NVMe SSDs drives. I have added modded tunings that Samsung and Phison uses on there own NVMe drivers like transaction sizes, interrupt coalescing times, interrupt parameters, and performance parameters like transfer size and number of I/O queues

Thank you I know about it but we can't use it as they blocked it through binary files (.sys) so it will only work on Solidigm NVMe SSDs only and it won't work for any other brands There's no difference between the old one vs the new ones.

Hence why I used the older ones and there's almost no difference at all between them. They just added more NVMe Solidigm products to support & changed the NVMe milliseconds on operating states. I will try again and give another chance but I doubt it will work

I have tested it and I let one of my kids play it for over an hour (I was busy) and it didn't crash or caused any kind of freezing.

I even changed graphics settings between high/ultra & maxed out custom settings and didn't see any issues or freezes.

I have got i7 13650hx with 4060 so I am capable to playing it at high settings with good fps on 1080p.

I have tested it on Lexar NM790 2TB which is where my main OS is installed and I installed the game on the same drive as the main OS while using Solidigm tuned drivers.

I removed all kind of undervolts & overclocking just to remove any kind of external factor or variables from the test. I'm using Windows 11 Dev Insider 24H2 with latest Nvidia Drivers and latest BIOS available.

Is there any method you know other than playing the game or tuning with graphics settings that triggers the crashes or system freezes?

Are you using RAID while using the driver? I mean unfortunately I have never tested using the driver while using RAID mode. When the event happens... do you suffer any kind of issues? like crashes? freezes? stutters?

As this error very vague and very generic and sometimes it is false positive. The reason I said false positive was previously I was using stock driver that comes with windows and I got SK Hynix P31 Gold and this error comes up only during booting up even if I don't use RAID at all and never happens again during the entire operation.

No data loss occurred during almost the entire 3 months using this driver on 3 NVMe SSDs ( 2 on my home and 1 on my PC Work). I have tested it what happens if windows crashed and the driver acts very well and doesn't cause any data corruptions.

I mean I have made test files recording live hash file of a pagefile.sys and getting saved as a .bat file & then converted to .exe file every 1 second. And then I intentionally make my windows unstable by undervolting with crazy undervolts through throttlestop on CPU cores & SA intentionally targeting memory sensitive operations including CPU and it would crash instantly yet the file isn't corrupted on all three phases.. the .txt file, the .bat file, the .exe file and the pagefile.sys.

Done that over 20 times already by comparing MD5 hash files. So... yea the stock Microsoft NVMe driver ones would corrupt one of the three phases 2 out of 20 attempts while with Solidigm ones 0 of of 20 attempts.

It's an overkill test scenario I know but I was just curious if Solidigm sacrificed reliability over performance but I guess in reality they actually increased reliability and being better than stock Microsoft NVMe driver

In the end you decide if you want to use it or not. Do your own testing and see the difference if it's worth to use it or not

I'd just like to report that I have been testing this driver on my homelab server running 4 x P41 Platinum NVME drives in a Storage Spaces array for about a week now. No issues, didn't even have to recreate the array. Just restarted and everything continued on as usual.

That's interesting find! thanks for reporting this never thought it would hit a little on CPU... I guess the driver utilizes the CPU much more than stock ones? or an overhead? I don't know.. I might be completely wrong about this.

Since you are on laptop, does it happen to consume more power on the CPU side during idle loads? what about tuned ones vs not-tuned ones? does it make a difference as well?

Fantastic works! Looks like my 12600k cannot handle that performance boost, or maybe the speed is limited by the U.2 to PCIe Adapter. Also attached a 980 Pro for reference!
