SSD have taken some interesting turns in recent years by removing DRAM cache and 'prettying up' TLC memory. Now that P41 and 990 Pro have been out long enough to see solid use. Curious how these two fairly different takes on storage stack up. For modern hardware desktop gaming only.

in terms of avg load time, what around 1 second difference according to TPU, W1zzard had it around WD black levels or just slightly higher.

I have looked at the reviews of both. He tests for pretty much everything and barring a correction they are static information. As reviews current to release date they are very informative.

My intent here was seeing if anything differentiated them over time as daily use game only drives. Never know what sort of insights might come out that are more relevant to current OS builds or other shifts that are constantly taking place.

Forums tend to revisit subjects and refresh information. That's all this was. Hynix Platinum had a strong following here that might've moved on to something else outside of WD or Samsung.

NVMe SSD has almost no bearing whatsoever in gaming performance, feel free to save a few bucks by buying the cheaper - or opting into something even cheaper. Even SATA drives which are limited by the obsolete bus will do just fine in the largest majority of cases. As long as it's an SSD and not an HDD, you'll be good

Agree.

The majority of my installed Steam library is on a drive most here probably wouldn't even consider (8TB QVO870). Zero performance issues.

The only caveat is if the game utilizes DirectStorage you'll need an NVMe.

Fair enough, mindset from having weaker system where NVMe has a much larger effect was limiting my view.
